3. A Carring Friend

Kanya's POV

Samuel Wijaya ignored me and walked into the apartment, not forgetting the black paper bag in his hand. He looked back when I closed the apartment door.

“I just wanted to go straight to the office, but it would be a pity if I threw this paper bag, so I knocked on the door and kept on visiting as polite as someone said.” He said with a sarcastic smile and lifted the paper bag high.

I watched with a lazy gaze at the black paper bag for which I knew what was inside. Last night Samuel Wijaya cooked everything in my fridge. I ate a lot last night. So, it’s not just his mistake that has made my refrigerator’s food material empty, but I also took part in emptying my refrigerator.

“I think I have to eat alone outside.” Samuel took another step toward the door.

Before he could grab the doorknob, I, who was still standing at the entrance, immediately took the black paper bag in his hand. I was starving, and it was impossible to let my breakfast go away.

I ran toward the kitchen immediately and heard Samuel chuckling behind me. My face turned red because I was rude to him, especially just now I talked about it behind his back, even though I was grumbling alone.

“Since you’re already here, why do you want to eat alone?” I brought two plates and a spoon and fork, while carrying the paper bag containing our breakfast, then put them on the mini dining table. “Just sit down, Sam, sit wherever you want, even you can sit on the floor, though.”

“Jeez! You can’t tell me to sit on the floor. It’s made me regretting as I brought you breakfast.”

Set the plates and put them on both sides of the table. I started to take out the breakfast, which was in the black paper bag. The fried rice that Samuel usually brings me. My favorite fried rice which is only opposite Samuel Wijaya’s house, he was nice enough to get me breakfast often.

“Do you regret it? But still, you bring me breakfast, right?”

“Hmph! Earlier, you said I was impolite because I walked into your apartment just like my will? So I thought you didn’t want to have breakfast together because you already have three eggs in your refrigerator.” Samuel Wijaya said with a tone of sarcasm.

I just chuckled awkwardly at that and didn’t reply so that the discussion wouldn’t be too long. Rolling lazy eyes, I immediately unwrapped the fried rice; just smelled it made my saliva feel like it would come out.

I felt something was missing when I glanced at the table. It turns out I forgot to get us drinking water. “I want to get a drink for us.” I got up, then walked quickly to the kitchen, and carried two glasses of water in my hand without bothering to use the tray to have it.

“Be careful, Kay, don’t walk quickly; the water will spill!”

Samuel is a caring man; whoever becomes his girlfriend will be fortunate to have a man like him. He is handsome, well established, and hardworking. Even Samuel doesn’t live with his parents anymore, not because his parents live far away, but Samuel Wijaya can buy a house for himself.

The house he lives in is quite large and has two floors in an area that is quite elite as well. The distance from my apartment to Samuel’s house is quite far. Of course, it doesn’t matter to him to visit my apartment because he drives a car and, of course, the result of his hard work over the last few years.

If only I also have a boyfriend like Samuel Wijaya in the future. I mean, I don’t want to date Samuel because I consider him as my best friend. Even though most of the friends out there are in love or even stuck in the friend zone. I didn’t want to ruin the friendship I had built with Samuel by a feeling, and fortunately, I didn’t have those feelings for him.

I put one of the glasses in front of Samuel and the other for myself. “Enjoy your meal,” I impatiently put a tablespoon full of fried rice into my mouth.

“Kay,”

I turned my head when Samuel called my name softly, “What’s wrong?”

“Do you have another recurring dream last night?” Samuel asked as he took a spoon, then put a mouthful of fried rice into his mouth. For a moment, he seemed to be enjoying the fried rice he chewed. After that, Samuel looked back at me with slightly sad eyes.

“Hm, yes,” I answered briefly and keep eating fried rice at my desk because I can’t stop enjoying the savory taste when it enters my mouth.

“Want me to go see a psychiatrist?”

My hand stopped when I was going to scoop out the fried rice that was on my plate. I was spaced out for a moment because Samuel’s question seemed to maintain my mental health. It’s just a dream I don’t have to go to see a psychiatrist. As I said before, if I go there, then I don’t believe in my mind.

“Kay, that doesn’t mean I say you’re insane or have a nervous breakdown. I’m just worried that you have the same dream over and over again just because of the scone of the novel you wrote and didn’t even exist.” Samuel Wijaya said again. He seemed worried about me, especially about my mental health.

I’m still pensive, have no intention of answering. Knowing Samuel is worried about me, of course, made me happy. However, there is a heavy feeling in my heart when I think that maybe it all happened because I was insane?

No, no, shaking my head as if giving Samuel a no. “I’m fine, Sam. Finish your breakfast so you won’t be late for the office.” I retook the spoon and put the fried rice into my mouth, but it didn’t taste like before. It’s probably because my mood has changed, that’s why I can’t enjoy this fried rice anymore.

Samuel sighed. “Whatever your decision — I will support it.”

“Thanks, Sam, you are my best friend.”

I am giving an ocean-wide smile to Samuel — until the tails of my eyes curl. However, somehow I saw Samuel’s smile like a wry smile. Could it be because I refused to see a psychiatrist? I’ve decided I’m not going to see a psychiatrist!

“You should eat more, Kay. I have to hurry to the office.” Samuel Wijaya glanced at the watch on his right wrist. Then he got up from his seat when I finished putting the umpteenth spoonful of fried rice into my mouth.

My mouth is full of food, so I can only nod at him.

“I’ll have breakfast at the office later. Your forehead is creased, really creased like your life. Creased!” Samuel smiled derisively.

Almost choking at his words, I immediately drank half a glass of water. “Go away!” Kicking him out with a tone made up.

“Bye, Kay!”
