I opened my eyes to find myself in my car at the edge of the cliff at night, in the middle of nowhere, the last thing I remember was being in the front seat with my fiancé Gaston, it was the night of our anniversary and I was excited because he was taking me to dinner. Blood trickled down my face, my head spinning, it took me a minute to realize what was going on. I hurried to step out of the car but the doors were locked, the key was also missing. Then I heard the sound of key dangling from a distance, I turned my eyes to Gaston standing there, watching me, one hand in his pocket and the other hand holding the key. He smiled at me. “Honey, please open the door” I begged. But he just stood there without moving an inch. “Please, the car will fall off” I pleaded with him, confused why he would stand there and just watch me. I tried the handle so many times but nothing happened, I was locked in. I began to panic. I slammed my hand on the window, screaming for him to help me, “Please” “I’m sorry Lily” he said. “What do you mean?” I demanded when a figure appeared from behind him. A figure I hadn’t expected. She wrapped her arms around his neck and gave him a kiss on the lips. “Rebecca” I called out shocked, “Hi lily” she turned to me with a smirk. “What’s going on, what’s the meaning of this?” I demanded but she just laughed. Watching my best friend kiss my fiance was not on my bingo card this year. “There’s been a change in ownership, Gaston is now mine. I hope you understand” she replied. “What the hell are you talking about, he is my fiance, what do you mean he is yours?” She took a step forward, “I’m sorry for telling you this late, but I and Gaston have been having an affair behind your back for six months now” she added. I felt a twist in my stomach at the sudden news, my chest tightened. It couldn’t be possible, we have been together for three years and a half now. How could he do this to me. I turn to Gaston waiting for him to deny it, he didn’t, which meant it was true. While I was trying my best to make my relationship work, she was doing her best to destroy it. “You see, we can’t be together with you in the way, so we thought of eliminating you” she folded her arms. I was too shaken up to speak, my brain was already processing a lot. “Do you think you can kill me that easily?” I threatened. “Take a look around” she uttered, reminding me of the situation I was in. I was locked in a car sitting at the edge of a cliff, I was as good as dead. The next thing that happened tore me apart, Gaston brought out two gallons of Gasoline, then he began pouring it all over the car. “What are you doing?” I screamed, fretting and fighting to get out but there was no use. I tried to get my purse to call for help but it was missing too. So I thought of breaking the window with anything heavy, Gaston had already thought of that and took out anything that could possibly help me escape from here. “Please, why are you doing this to me?” I cried in pain. “Money” Gaston answered, throwing the gallons off the cliff, it took a long while before I could hear it reach the end. “You have an insurance policy worth over 500 million, I want that Lily” He stated. Had it always been about money, is that the reason why he asked me out, just so he could get his hands on my money. “If you need money, I can pay you. Please don’t do this, don’t kill me” I pleaded with him. “You’re pathetic, do you think a man like me would settle for a woman like you. A gullible naive woman” he cursed out. His words made my heart ache. “Why would I want to settle for you when I could have this” he stretched his hand to Rebecca and she held him, hugging him in front of me. “Please” I pleaded, slamming my fist on the window, there was not so much as a crack on it. “Goodbye Lily, I hope you burn in hell” He answered pulling a lighter from his pocket. “No” my eyes widen in shock, I watched the fire dangle in his grasp, before he willingly threw it at the car. “Nooooooo” I screamed, as the car caught up in flames, the heat slowly getting to me, the fire licking off everything in its part. I could see them, laughing at me as I caught up in flames, there was no sign of remorse in their eyes and just when I thought I was already going through the worst. The honking of a black truck caught my attention, it was heading straight toward me. “Help me, please, anybody help me” I pleaded and cried. No one was coming for me, we were in a secluded place. I watched the truck get closer until it rammed into the car, the car stumbled off the cliff, falling from a great height, my body burning from the flames as I prepare myself for what should be my death. Before I knew it, there was darkness. He took me to beautiful restaurant that was empty. He must have pulled some strings to get it.I followed behind him as he walked a few steps ahead, always keeping a small but intentional distance, glancing back just enough to make sure I was still there. It felt less like he was leading me and more like he was guiding me into a world he had designed for this moment. The scenery outside was almost cinematic: a stone bridge arched over the river, lined with glowing amber lights that shimmered across the water. The sky rumbled with the low percussion of a distant thunderstorm, its flashes occasionally illuminating the horizon. Inside, candlelight softened every corner, giving the room a warm, golden hush. When we sat, a quiet conversation with the chef must have taken place beforehand, because dishes arrived without menus or questions. First came a delicate appetizer: thin slices of citrus-cured salmon arranged like rose petals, sprinkled with microgreens and edible flowers. Then a truf
“This is all my fault sir, I should have been more careful” I reacted before he even got me.He paused in front of me, his right hand closing the door, leaving us all alone.“No, it’s not your fault” he changed his words. His hands reached for my face and he cupped them in his hand, it almost made me puke but I held myself.“But you were about to lash out on me, you pointed at me” I played my act perfectly, I could see how smitten his eyes on me were.Did he have any dignity left in him.“No, I was about to ask you to get on the phone and find out what happened. This is not your fault. If it’s anybody’s fault, it’s mine.” He pulled away and stared at the files on the desk.“Maybe my presentation just wasn’t good enough. I hate to see all my hardwork go to waste”This man has not worked a day in his life, if he did, he would have notice the flaws in the presentation but he didn’t, that just shows how gullible he was”“Are you sure?”“Yes dear” The only thing he ever put effort in is
DianaDespite my efforts, I arrived late for the meeting. The company had an important presentation to offer to Mr Golde.Mr Golde was an international businessman, he occasionally gave visits to local businesses to partner with them. After a week of reaching out to him and Gaston’s mom pulling the string with a party Favour, a cherished vase from his family line that had been lost a long time ago. He agreed to be available for the presentation.I pushed open the door to find him and his team already seated, he was as punctual as they said.Gaston stood waiting in the front as I carried the files he needed for the presentation and got the prompter ready.Pleasantries were exchanged in a few seconds, I stood by the left corner of the room watching them.“This is Project L, it was collectively thought of by me and my team, It’s a plan to resolve the issue between the Chinese and Japanese delivery companies while acting as the middle man.We call it the ILC.”“InterLink Logistics Coordi
I intentionally arrived 30 mins late to the venue, I found Rebecca seated with a glass of iced tea in front of her.Once she set her eyes on me, she didn’t seem pleased that I kept her waiting.Rebecca has always been the impatient one, if anything bugged her, she made sure to clear it out of her way.I grew up with her so I knew her like the back of my hand.I took my seat and asked for exactly what she was having. Her icy breath grazed the surface of my skin as I reached for the drink presented to me.“I want you to quit your job” she commanded. She must have lost to Gaston in a fight again, because if she had her way, she would have fired me the moment she saw me.“I can’t do that” I answered and her face grew cold. She became quiet before she reached in her purse and pulled and envelope. She dropped it on the table and slid it towards me.“I know women like you, you love to reap where you didn’t sow. It’s money that you want right, there is enough money in there for you to not sh
