My mate

*LAIN*

*FIVE YEARS LATER*

Ever since that fateful day, I was taken in by an organization called the dark tide. It was an organization that owned half of the assassin's around the world.

It consisted of humans and supernatural beings, but the humans had no idea of our existence, and we liked it that way.

It made everything much easier.

I was trained to kill in cold blood without any remorse. Witnessing the deaths of my family broke me, and I had become a shell of the person I used to be.

I lost my wolf, Axel five years old.

Was that even possible?

I shrugged carelessly as I looked at the glass of whiskey that had reached halfway.

I have no idea, but ever since the day I lost everything I have never been able to summon him or transform.

It made me feel like a human and much more vulnerable.

Working for the dark tide is like walking on a right rope while wearing a mask, and I guess that's what made it thrilling for me.

They owned our lives, and they had the power to end it whenever we failed to complete our missions.

It was all about survival.

Kill or be killed.

“Lain?”

I looked up and Drex walked in, he looked almost exhausted and worse of all, he was covered in blood.

I gave him a fist bump, and he sat across me, wiping off the sweat off his forehead.

“You look like shit right now” I commented, trying to get on his nerves.

He chuckled wickedly, giving me the middle finger and he grabbed my glass of whiskey, gulping it in one go.

I cocked a brow at him as he placed the empty glass on the table with full force, almost breaking it.

“Rough night?”

He nodded quietly.

“Have you ever thought of walking away from all of this Lain? Like living a normal life away from the bloodshed?”

He sounded very ridiculous.

Once you joined the dark tide, there was no going back and no one was allowed to leave until you probably lost your life in the end.

“Are you high on something right now?” I muttered while pouring myself another shot.

He ran his fingers through his hair, groaning deeply and drank my shot.

I could tell that Drex had reached his breaking point, and I recall having mine after killing an entire family.

That kid.

He looked me in the eye and begged me to spare the lives of his parents.

My father had begged for his life before those damn vampires opened his throat open.

I closed my eyes, releasing a shaky exhale and pulled the trigger and I saw red.

I decided to pour Drex another shot.

We both remained silent.

“I killed a fucking kid Lain…and I would rather not do this shit anymore.”

There was no time to show weakness. And the dark tide has always made sure of that.

“Drex just have a goodnight sleep, and you'll feel better in the morning.”

He scoffed in annoyance.

“No kidding, only you'd talk about sleeping after murdering an entire country without feeling guilty!” He yelled furiously.

The other assassins turned to look at our table with shock, whispering among themselves.

“Don't you feel guilty?” He asked curiously as tears filled his eyes.

Did I honestly feel guilty?

No.

My watch began beeping, alerting me that it had a new task to begin.

I got on my feet and gave Drex a small smile and walked out.

There was something different about tonight. I could feel it in my gut.

I got inside my Bentley and began driving to the location where I was supposed to receive the instructions about my next kill.

This is the same car I received on Christmas morning five years ago.

It holds numerous memories for me.

I'm the alpha of my father's pack, but I chose to walk away. I abandoned my people and I refused to honor my father's legacy because I was fucking scared.

Furthermore, I don't want to end up like him.

Two hours later, I arrived at the location and got out of the car. I went up to the rooftop of an old building and found Galen waiting for me.

“Sir.”

I bowed my head, and he patted me on the shoulder.

Our eyes locked and Galen handed me a picture of a girl. I frowned deeply because I hated getting my hands dirty, especially if it involved women.

It always brought back memories of my mother and sister.

“You must eliminate target 0351” he muttered in a cold tone.

I looked at the picture once more and smirked.

“A redhead?”

Seems easy enough, I thought to myself.

“Don't underestimate her, she's no ordinary girl.”

I'm guessing that she wasn't a human.

There was something about her that kept me looking at her picture. That feeling made me feel conflicted, and I don't know why.

I tucked it inside my coat.

“When do you want her dead?”

“Tonight, you have an hour to get rid of her.”

Being half werewolf made it easy to almost find anyone in the city, and soon enough I managed to track down this girl.

She was at a nightclub, which was going to make my job a bit complicated.

I can't afford to have any witnesses.

I opened the glove compartment and took out my signature dagger. It belonged to the vampire that killed my father in front of me.

It was made of silver, so I had to wear gloves whenever I held it.

I hid the dagger in my coat and got out of the car, heading inside the club.

There was loud music and the dance floor was filled with half naked women dancing.

Then I saw her.

Her scent.

She smiled like lilies.

She was screaming, running her fingers through her fierce looking red hair.

I swallowed hard and began walking towards her.

I was about to stab her when our eyes locked in a frenzy and my heart gave away. And the words escaped my lips before I could stop them.

“MATE!”

The dagger dropped to the ground.
