The ambush

*LAIN*

I woke up to the sound of laughter and groaned in annoyance.

It was my little sister Nyra, probably joking about something with my dad.

I grabbed my nearest pillow and covered my ears to block out the sound.

“Lain you have to wake up, its Christmas morning.”

My mom was knocking on the door and Sooner or later, I knew that if I didn't get my lazy ass out of bed, she was going to grab me by the ear and force me downstairs.

I groaned deeply.

“I'm coming, mom, I just need a minute.”

I heard her footsteps slowly fading away and tossed the covers to the ground.

Ever since I turned sixteen, I turned into the black sheep of the family and I would rather not do anything fun.

It's like while growing up I was killing the kid inside me, but it wasn't exactly easy to act like a kid, especially when your father is the alpha of the pack, and you're next in line.

I stripped out of my clothes and stepped into the shower as the cold water drenched me.

I was one of those kids who weren't too happy to discover that they were born half werewolf and half human.

Furthermore, I felt envious of Nyra because she was born a human.

I turned off the water and wrapped a white towel around myself.

When I returned to the bedroom, my gaze lingered on the pile of brown hair spilling over my white crisp pillow.

“Hey it's morning, get out of my bed.”

She sighed softly and stretched her arms.

Her brown eyes met mine.

“Good morning handsome.”

I tossed Velvet her clothes and pointed to the window.

She frowned at me.

“Are you expecting me to jump out a fucking window?”

I gave her a knowing look, which immediately silenced her nagging.

She scoffed in annoyance and immediately hopped out of bed and started quickly wearing her clothes.

Our eyes locked and I smirked at her.

“Bastard.”

I cocked a brow at her.

“That's not what you were calling me last night.”

Velvet wore her shoes and gave me the middle finger as she slowly climbed outside my window.

I chuckled darkly.

My amusement soon vanished when I heard my little sister screaming outside.

“Mom, a girl just jumped out of Lain's window!”

I scoffed in annoyance that she really had to scream the last part.

I grabbed the nearest pair of denim jeans and rushed downstairs shirtless.

I let out a gasp when I found my mom holding Velvet in place.

Great.

She turned to look at me.

“Mom, I can explain.”

She raised a brow at me, urging me to go on.

“I was drunk, and it was just a one-time thing.”

Velvet gaped at me.

“Excuse me?”

She stared at me in disbelief.

“You've fucked me countless times Lain be a good boy and tell the truth, otherwise Santa will be forced to put you on the naughty list.”

My dad gave me a knowing look and disappeared with Nyra inside the house.

My mother looked so disappointed in me, and I felt horrible for breaking her trust.

She let go of Velvet but assured her that she was going to bring this matter with her parents.

It was now my turn for a moment there. I thought that she was going to slap me, but she walked past me, brushing my shoulder.

I glared at Velvet and followed my mom inside.

She wasn't in the living room, and I assumed that she was upstairs.

I found her in my room.

I was about to open my mouth to say something, but she cut off.

“Lain Navier edevane I know that you're growing up, and you're turning into a man, but you need to have a little decency and self-control.”

She always uses my full name when she's mad at me.

She glared at me.

“Did you even use protection?”

I looked away, refusing to meet her gaze.

“Mom I'm not stupid, I would rather not become a dad at sixteen.”

She rolled her eyes at me.

“I don't want you bringing over any more girls to my house.”

“Put on a fucking shirt and come downstairs because I'm tempted to break all your presents.”

I heard the door being slammed hard, making me wince.

She's definitely pissed off.

I opened my closet and took out a white t-shirt and raced downstairs.

Nyra was the first one to open her present and as expected, it was the latest Barbie doll with a matching playhouse.

She giggled excitedly and hugged our parents.

My mom received a new iPod from my dad.

Dad received a new tool box, for some reason he was fascinated with fixing cars.

Weird.

I opened my present and found a keychain which was a small halo.

“What's this?” Because I was perplexed.

My dad smiled at me.

“You probably shouldn't receive this after the stunt you did this morning, but your mother insisted that we give it to you since you successfully passed your driving test.”

My eyes widened in shock at the sheer realization.

“You got me a fucking car?!”

My mother frowned at me.

“Language.”

I looked at my little sister and gave her an apologetic smile.

“Sorry I forgot that you're still a little kid.”

She rolled her eyes at me.

“Where is my car?”

“It's in the garage.”

I sprang to my feet and rang outside.

With the push of a button, the garage door opened only to reveal a brand new black Bentley.

A smile curved my lips.

For the first time in my life, I was excited to go back to school and show off my new car.

After locking the garage door, I went back inside the house only to find things scattered.

I walked into the living room and found some uninvited guests holding a dagger against my father's throat.

My mother and sister were curled up in the Corner, crying softly.

“Dad, what's going on?”

A man all dressed in black pushed back his jet-black hair and took off his dark sunglasses, revealing his red eyes.

Vampires.

He hissed at me.

“Welcome back to the party, kid.”

I was about to transform into my wolf, but my father's voice stopped me from unleashing Axel.

“Don't son.”

The other two vampires forced me to get on my knees.

“Now that the whole family is here, let's get this party started.”

I looked up, meeting his gaze.

“You can do anything you want with me, Damon but let my wife and children go.”

I couldn't understand what was going on if I had paid more attention to the pack and would have known a thing or two about my father's enemies.

Damn it.

“I've been sent here with strict orders, Alex and no one here is leaving alive.”

He shrugged carelessly.

“Damon, I'm begging you.”

I glared at the vampire, who only laughed at my father's pleas.

“Don't not beg this bastard dad.”

Damon turned to look at me with a blank expression written all over his face.

“Ah you must be the famous Lain Navier edevane You have a brave kid Alex. It would be a shame if something happened to him.”

I rolled my eyes at him.

“Do your worst. I'm not afraid of a dead guy.”

His smirk faded away, and his eyes darkened dangerously.

“You're right kid I won't hurt you, instead I'll hurt your family.”

My eyes widened in horror as he lunged towards my father and slit his throat open using the dagger.

“Dad!”

He choked on his own blood and slumped to the ground bleeding.

My heart was pounding frantically in my chest, and I felt my lungs struggling to draw in air.

I saw red and transformed into my wolf brown, snapping at the bloodthirsty vampire that killed my father right in front of me.

I could hear my mother and sister screaming as I ripped off Damon's head.

My father let out a gasp and his body froze.

Before I could recover I was ambushed by the two other vampires who tossed me across the room, taking out half of the wall.

I howled in pain trying to regain my balance.

I couldn't spot my mother or Nyra anywhere, and that's when I heard my mother's terrified scream.

I ran outside as Axel took control, only to come across her pale body.

She had a vampire bite on her neck.

I transformed back and felt her pulse, and it was non-existent.

She was gone.

Tears filled my eyes.

'M- mom?”

I couldn't spot Nyra or the two other vampires who came with Damon.

Did they kill her as well?

Gunshots filled the air, and realized that I just exposed myself.

I slowly moved backwards when people started shooting at me.

I rushed into the house and grabbed a pair of jeans and a sweater and started running into the woods.

Yes, I was a coward. Instead of fighting back, I ran away.

A man tackled me to the ground and we both fell on the snow.

He was about to stab me, but I held the knife, stopping him even if the mere contact burned my skin.

I pushed him off me and stabbed him three times with the silver dagger until he stopped breathing.

My hands were painted crimson, and my heart was racing.

The snow was only falling harder and after a few minutes I heard footsteps.

I couldn't transform into my wolf because I was injured. Someone offered me their hand and when I looked up, I saw the devil.

“Who are you?” I whispered curiously and he smirked at me.

“I work for the dark tide kid.”
