"Who's in with me on this one?
I don't want to believe that I'm alone.
Surely, you all will be willing to partner with me. Correct me if I'm wrong." Officer Lucas smiled when he asked the others, but no one responded to him.
He thought they were going to be excited but apparently, everyone maintained their silence and frowned.
The rest of the cops head backward due to fear. Only Romeo was brave enough to stand in front of Lucas, waiting to receive his orders.
"Romeo, what about you? You haven't said anything since. What do you have to say about this? You were the first person I expected to speak up. I want to believe that you are with me, right?" Lucas asked Romeo.
Without speaking, he was already confident that Romeo was not going to act like the other cops and sideline him
Looking at the other cops, Romeo itched his head. He had no idea what to say.
Deep down, he wasn't pleased with Lucas's decision-making. At the same time, he has no plans of disappointing Lucas in the process.
"Okay?
You still haven't said anything important since I brought up the topic." How long do you want to keep me silent?" Lucas provoked. He slammed the desk again, this time in frustration. He was already breathing like a rottweiler dog that was getting ready to devour its prey.
As the argument ensued, Lucas's phone rang to cause a major distraction. Unlike Lucas, who wasn't pleased with the call, Romeo, however, found it intriguing.
It was the kinda of distraction he needed. He was close to peeing in his panties due to the immense pressure he was under.
Looking at the phone, Lucas discovered that the caller was none other than Nurse Elizabeth, his love interest, who happens to be the main reason for the brawl.
"Oh, no. This doesn't even make any sense to me. Not now when I am having an important discussion. Can't it just wait already until I'm done?" Lucas facepalmed and hissed. The call was as important to him. At the same time, his conversation with the cops meant a lot too.
He was stuck in the dilemma of placing one situation above the other.
"Sir, is there a problem with you? You don't seem too happy. Do you mind to share what the difficulty is? Perhaps, I could solve it. And it happened after your phone rang. Does it have to do with who called you?" Romeo asked on behalf of the other cops. They might not have spoken, but he could tell that they all wanted to ask the question. Unfortunately, fear has gripped them firmly and sealed their lips.
Just like the other cops, Romeo silently prayed that Lucas would proceed to answer the phone and ease the tension off them.
"What do you care?
Why are you asking about the call? Mind your damn business. I can't recall asking you to help me. If I needed someone to solve my situation, I knew where to find a therapist, " Lucas yelled at Romeo almost immediately.
He glanced at the phone for too long and stood up to leave without saying a word to Romeo and the others. Deep down, they knew he had gone to answer the phone.
That was the happiest moment of their lives. They were so thrilled to the extent that they thought of throwing a party to celebrate their freedom.
Lucas held them hostage with his terrifying nature. He nearly made their souls depart from their bodies.
"What do we do now? You heard from Lucas. Do you think it's a good idea to prosecute Dexter?" One of the cops asked Romeo shortly after Lucas's departure.
Without responding to the question, Romeo majestically went outside and glanced around, hoping that Lucas wasn't coming from anywhere. He wouldn't want Lucas to walk in on them discussing him.
Fortunately for him, Lucas was nowhere to be found. Seeing this, Romeo was relieved. He placed both hands on the chest and said. "That was damn close. Thank goodness he isn't anywhere,"
Without wasting time, Romeo rushed back to his colleagues. "Let's discuss that now. Lucas isn't anywhere around the premises. I suspect that was his lover, nurse Elizabeth calling,"
Hold on a second. Nurse Elizabeth, the same lady at the hospital that Dexter assaulted?" Tony asked.
Although, he hasn't met Elizabeth but the name rings a bell in his head. He overheard Lucas discussing with Romeo about it.
"That's right
She's the one," Romeo confirmed without a second thought
"Enough reason we should think this true. Lucas is my excellent friend. Trust me when I saw he doesn't joke with Nurse Elizabeth. He would do everything to protect her with the last drop of his blood," Romeo buttressed. His explanation fueled the tension in the room.
They now understood why Lucas was hell-bent on the case, as though his life depended on it.
"This is quite strange.
It's going to be a hard nut for us to crack. I don't see getting away from this easily," Tony lamented.

He had no idea that a time like this would come when he would be at the Frontline of corruption. The same corruption and sin he always fights against.
"I can't do this."
Tony echoed with a soft tone. He looked sideways and pretended as though he never uttered a word.
What did you just say?" Romeo stepped forward. He did hear what Tony uttered, but he just wanted to confirm if Tony meant every damn word.
"I ask you again, Tony.
What did I just hear you say? I don't want to believe that I am assuming things that aren't real," Romeo repeated the question with confidence.
"Am I interrupting anything interesting? This place looks quiet. Why do I have a feeling that you all suddenly stopped talking because I walked in? Are you all discussing me? I might just walk away if my presence is making you all uncomfortable." Kelly asked with seriousness. The sudden silence in the room worries him so much. He could have sworn that he heard some voices when he was still outside. "Kelly, please stop. Stop drawing unnecessary conclusions. It doesn't even make sense to me. This has nothing to do with you. Why do you think everything is always about you, huh? The least you could have done was to ask. This is not the way to go about this." George fumed at Kelly. Not even the news of Dexter's arrest made him react that way. He poured out his frustration at Kelly as he was the one who got Dexter arrested. "Okay. I guess it's not about me after all. At least, I know I am safe,' Kelly sighed.Another awkward glance from George fueled another suspicion."What? Stop starin
Slowly, Ciara walked to the door and opened it. She stood at the door entrance to ensure that Walters didn't force himself inside the house. "You look stunning tonight. What the heck am I saying? You always look stunning. But tonight, it's different." They were the first words of Walters, immediately he saw Ciara. He couldn't get his eyes off her as though that were the first time meeting each other. The plan was to flatter Ciara and make her fall for Walters again. Sadly, it wasn't working. Ciara already knew what his intentions were. "What do you want?" She shunned his flattering words and went straight to the point. She can't deny the fact that Walters himself looks good. Due to what's at stake, she couldn't admit it. "I just want us to talk. Can I at least come inside let's have a decent conversation?" Walters begged. He sounded sorrowful like the biblical prodigal son who showed up to his father's house after wasting his inheritance. "You want us to talk?" She giggled and
Peeping through the tiny hole from inside, Ciara spotted a familiar face at her doorstep, holding a flower bouquet. He was dressed in a dark suit as though he were heading for a dinner date. It was a face that brought back old memories. He was the last person Ciara expected to see at that crucial time. This was the moment Ciara wished it was Derek. She felt that his presence was more significant than the person outside. "I can't believe it's Walters that's standing outside my doorstep. He is even dressed in a suit. What exactly does he want from me? I thought I would never set my eyes on him ever again. Why didn't he reach out to me personally? For crying out loud, it's 8:20 PM. Is he that jobless?Doesn't he have important places to be at this time? Why come to my house? What if my Father was around?" Ciara lamented in a low tone. Too many mysteries surrounding the presence of Walters, her ex-boyfriend. They haven't spoken to each other since Walters called off their relationshi
"I said nasty things about you in your absence that shouldn't have been said. I allowed my emotions and anger to control me. Now I am regretting every one of my actions," Tony confessed, yet failed to hit the nail on the head. He got Lucas and everyone confused."I don't understand what you are talking about. You still haven't told me what I need to hear. Can you please go straight to the point? You are not even making sense right now," Lucas fumed. He pretends not to know what Tony says about him. He wanted Tony to admit it himself. "I kind of pulled out of the plan to prosecute Dexter in your absence. Not just pulling out, I also tried forcing everyone to make the same decision," Tony finally took the courage to speak up. It was the most difficult task of his life. He would have sworn that he was never going to say that. To everyone's surprise, Lucas didn't react to Tony's confession, nor did he confront Tony. Instead, Lucas laughed and shook his head in pity. Tony got more scar
"But why didn't she tell me before? What game is she trying to play with me? Why does it have to be now? No, I disagree. I need to unravel the real truth in this." Officer Lucas asked himself rhetorically as his voice echoed back to him. Plenty of unanswered questions roam inside his head with no one around to provide the answers. "Now I see what Nurse Elizabeth is trying to achieve with this. She wants to manipulate me with some fake pregnancy, isn't it? There's no way I am letting her get away with it. Time to show her that I am smarter than she can ever imagine," Officer Lucas thought to himself. He doesn't want to believe that everything happening is a coincidence already. Five years of relationship and it happened to be their first-ever fight. And it turned out to be worse. To think that Officer Lucas already making plans to propose marriage to Nurse Elizabeth. He already contacted the event planning for the engagement party. He intends to make it the most memorable night o
"Exactly what you heard, Romeo. This is crazy. It's against my belief. I can't imagine myself being a partaker of something that's against my faith," Tony confirmed his decision to back out. His lips weren't shaking either, and his legs were struggling to stand firm on the ground. He didn't stutter or mince words. It was as though he'd been waiting for this moment all his life to express his dissatisfaction. "Your beliefs?" Romeo giggled. He paced around the office and returned a few seconds later. "Please tell me this is a joke. It's too early to joke with a situation like this," Romeo doubted Tony. Despite the seriousness on Tony's face, Romeo still didn't think he meant every damn word he said. "I wouldn't utter a word to you anymore. I rather wait for the officer to show up. Perhaps, you are going to believe me when I say it to his face," Tony stated and stepped backwards. Those were the only words he uttered. "he's serious about it," Romeo muttered in disbelief. Tony was t
