NERIAH'S POV I don't think my eyes are working perfectly. Denver's at my door...with Gia."What's going on here?" I mutter, rubbing my eyes for thr third time. "This is where you live?" Gia scrunches her nose disgustedly. "You really need a raise. What do you think sweetie?" She smiles sweetly at Denver. He raises his lips dryly and turns back to me. "You have a moment? I need to talk to you.""One minute." I hurry back in to grab a jacket over my tank top. There's no way I'm letting Gia into my house. Not in a million years. "What's going on?" I ask, loudly this time. Gia slides her sunglasses back onto her nose."Maybe we can talk somewhere that's not here?" Denver asks, completely ignoring Gia's attitude. I shrugged, locking my door behind me. Denver drives us to a high class restaurant somewhere in town. "So, what's this meeting about?" I want someone to start talking already because I'm dying of anxiety. "Take a chill pill, princess" Where did Gia suddenly come from? I tho
LAURA'S POV Desperate times require desperate measures. I remember that line from a movie, though I'm not sure which one it was. But as I rock Junior to sleep in my arms, those words keep echoing in my head. I need to do something. Fast. There's no hanging around to look for the ledger, or wait till Liam has a breakthrough with his father's will. The way I look at it now, those options are like chasing a dead end. And I don't want to be caught up at the end of the tunnel with no light waiting for me. There are several routes I've thought of taking, and maybe they'd be the best right now, but definitely not with Montero breathing down my back. I need to have ideas on how to throw him off or else he'll be my biggest problem yet.Junior's snoring softly in my arms when I lay him down into his bed. The nanny's taking a leave today so Liam and I have agreed to stay at home and watch him. It's the best definition of family time we're going to have in a long time. "Hey," Liam's voice
LAURA'S POV I can't believe it. That nuthead Henry Dickson actually spoke with Liam a couple of hours after he declined me audience. Maybe he was only going to speak to a familiar face. I should have thought about that. "He said he doesn't have it." Liam looks extremely disappointed. "How do you know he had it in the first place? Why would your dad give it to him? You said it yourself that they weren't in good terms for a really long time.""My dad actually gave it to him, but he doesn't have it at the moment."Now this is getting more and more complicated. How does someone hand something to you for safekeeping and you don't have it? Just like that. "Well did he say who has it?" Liam shakes his head. "He said he was robbed of it." Robbed of a journal? This has to be the craziest story I've ever heard and I don't believe it one bit. "Do you think the old man's intentionally refusing to hand it over? What if he was instructed to only hand it over to Denver?" Liam shakes his head
DENVER'S POV "Boss, I think I got something." Just the words I love to hear. "Then let's hear it." I can hear rustling at the other end, he seems busy. I like it. "I've been looking around Julie's house and I've seen thousands of letters sent by her father. Problem is they're all random. They don't look like there's hidden messages in any of them." My jaw clenches tightly. "You told me you found something.""Actually, I did. In one of the letters was a flash drive. I'm thinking of bringing it back to Florida. Just wanted to let you know." The flashdrive. Excitement courses through my veins like a lightning storm. I can feel every tip of my fingers tingling, like they're coming alive. "I think you should see what's on it before coming back." With the amount of surprises I've gotten in the search for this will, I don't think I want him to come back here without knowing what's on that flash. "Alright boss, I'm on it. I'll let you know what I find.""And Samuel?" He stays silent w
LAURA'S POV This is the only thing I've done right. Giving Liam a son, I mean. The eighteen months old is chuckling uncontrollably as Liam makes funny faces at him in the nursery. This is the only time I've seen Liam truly happy. I've been meaning to bring up the fact that I'm looking for his father's friend but I don't know what he'd make of it. I don't know if that'll make him happy or if it'll only groom the beast that's been slowly growing in him. I've been by the door for a couple of minutes and neither of them have noticed me. Not until Junior raises his head. "Mama!" He mouths, grinning. Liam turns towards me and smiles. "Hey, you" he hoists Junior into his arms and walks towards me. The baby's large dark eyes and curly jet-black hair deepens my own smile. Liam plants a kiss on my lips. I'm surprised I miss the feeling. It's been so long since he, or Montero, kissed me. "Hi" I mouth against his lips. "It's been so long since..." We both chuckle, "since we did this." I fi
NERIAH'S POV "Come back to the company"It's not a request, it's a command. I've been with Denver Chadwick the entire weekend and those are the only words he says to me when he gets a chance. I mean besides asking for his pills and his doctor. I don't understand this man. Sometimes he's soft and vulnerable, other times like right now, he's a cold-hearted jerk. "Do I even get to make a choice about anything in my life?" I cork my head to the side, a fake smile on my face. He closes the paper in his hands briefly,"Not that I know of."That fake smile wipes off my face. "You know Denver, I'm not a thing. I'm a person. An adult. I'll be turning thirty three in a couple of months. Until I met you, I had full control of my life and things were working out perfectly for me. I don't need you controlling or bossing me around. And no, I'm not coming back to the company!"I think I hear him chuckle as he finally folds his paper away. "I don't see the part where I gave you a choice, Neriah. Y
