The sunlight reached my room before I was ready to open my eyes.

I lay still, watching the ceiling, trying to hold on to that brief stretch of peace between waking and remembering.

It never lasted.

One by one, the memories returned—the watch, the gala, the poison, the hospital, until they crowded out every other thought.

They settled over me, heavy enough to make the day feel exhausting before it had even begun.

I turned my head to check the time; it was already 6:43 AM.

The next morning, I woke up to the sound of birds outside the villa. For a few seconds, I stayed still, staring at the ceiling before turning my head toward Edris. He was still asleep beside me, one arm resting across his side of the bed. I smiled when I remembered how he’d carried me to bed the night before after I fell asleep on the couch.I slowly sat up, trying not to wake him, but he moved almost immediately.“Are you awake?” Edris asked, his voice still sleepy.“Yes,” I replied. “I was trying not to wake you.”He opened his eyes and looked at me. “Well, you failed.”I laughed. “Sorry.”He stretched and looked at the time on his phone. “What time is it?”“Almost nine.”He groaned and pulled the duvet over his face. “That's still early.”I laughed. “It’s nine in the morning, Edris.”“Yeah, I know.”“Then why are you acting like it’s six?”“Because I’m on vacation.”I pulled the duvet away from his face. “Get up. I’m hungry.”He looked at me for a moment before smiling. “Of course

Edris eventually stepped out of the bathroom, and I glanced at him before looking away. “Are you finally done?”He laughed. “Yes, I’m finally done.”“Good, because I was beginning to think you planned to sleep in there.”He gave me a look. “You’re not serious.”We both changed into something comfortable for the night before getting ready for bed. I was about to climb under the duvet when my stomach growled loudly. I stopped and looked down at myself.Edris looked at me. “Was that your stomach?”I sighed. “Yeah, I’m hungry, I thought I could wait until tomorrow morning, but I couldn’t.”He shook his head with a small smile. “But you just ate earlier.”“I know, but I’m hungry again. I guess my stomach has other plans.”He laughed and picked up his phone. “What do you want?”“Hmmm, chicken wings.”“That’s it? With what?”“Maybe fries too.”Edris laughed. “Obviously.”“Don’t laugh at me.”“I’m not.”“You are.”He opened the resort’s room-service menu and handed me the phone. “Pick whateve

I was standing under the shower when the bathroom door opened. I turned around, already knowing it was Edris, but I still couldn’t help laughing when I saw him.“Oh my God, Edris!” I burst out laughing when I saw him standing there completely naked. He looked at me like there was nothing strange about it and walked toward me.“What?” he asked.“You’re seriously naked?”He laughed and stepped closer. “But this is what you wanted.”I rolled my eyes, still laughing. “Obviously.”“Then why are you acting surprised?”“Because I didn’t think you’d actually walk in here like that, naked,” I said, pointing at his dick.“Well, I’m here now.”He stepped under the shower with me. The warm water poured over both of us, soaking our hair and skin. Water slid down his face, over his neck, and down his chest. My own hair was dripping down my back, and I wiped the water from my eyes.Edris moved closer until his body was pressed against mine.“Still laughing?” he asked.“Hmmm, probably.”His hands set

“What are you doing?” I asked.“Wait and see,” Edris replied.A lively song suddenly started playing, and I stared at him when he started moving his shoulders to the beat.I burst out laughing. “Edris!”He looked at me innocently. “What?”“Are you actually dancing?”He nodded seriously. “Yes.”I covered my mouth, trying to hold back another laugh. “I can’t believe this.”He walked toward me, still moving to the music. “What’s wrong with my dancing?”“Everything,” I said, laughing.Edris shook his head. “You’re just jealous because I dance better than you.”I stared at him. “You haven’t even seen me dance.”“Exactly, that's why I’m already better.”I couldn’t stop laughing. “You’re so funny.”Edris placed a hand over his chest as if I’d deeply offended him. “Funny? I’m giving you a private performance, and that’s how you repay me?”I laughed. “Private performance? Please stop before I embarrass you.”“You can’t embarrass me,” Edris said confidently.“Are you sure?”“Yeah, very sure.”H

The room looked nothing like the one I had left earlier.A trail of rose petals led toward the bed, where more petals had been arranged across the white sheets. Four words stood out among them, impossible to miss.I LOVE YOU, JULIANA.Candles were placed around the room, and fairy lights were wrapped around the headboard. A small table waited beside the window with two glasses, a chilled bottle of champagne, and a plate of desserts.I turned around slowly and found Edris standing by the door, watching me with a smile. I stared back at everything in silence. I couldn’t remember the last time someone had put this much thought into making me feel special. My fingers brushed over one of the petals before I asked Edris, “You planned all of this?”Edris replied. “I wanted you to come home to something you’d remember.”I looked back at the bed, then at the flowers surrounding the room. “Why?”Edris walked closer to me. “Because I wanted you to have something beautiful to come back to.”I l

I woke up to the feeling of being carried. For a few seconds, I didn’t understand what was happening. My eyes were still sleepy, and all I could feel was the gentle movement around me. Then I opened my eyes properly and found Edris looking down at me.“Edris?” I murmured, still half-asleep.He looked down at me with a small smile. “You’re awake.”I blinked and looked around before realizing we weren’t on the yacht anymore. Edris was carrying me toward our villa, and I immediately lifted my head from his chest.“What are you doing?” I asked.“I’m taking you to the room,” Edris replied.I stared at him. “Put me down.”“No, he said, I'm not doing that.”“Edris, I’m awake. You can put me down now.”“I know you’re awake,” he replied, completely unbothered.“Then you can put me down.”Edris shook his head. “No, but you're still feeling sleepy.”I stared at him in disbelief. “I can walk, Edris, I'm not.”“I know you can,” he said, adjusting his hold on me. “But you were sleeping so peacefull

Edris wrapped his hand around the handle and pulled it out, then said to me,“Finished? If that was enough to make you feel better, then do it again.”Before I could try stabbing him again, something strong hit the back of my head, and I passed out on the floor. The next morning, I woke up expectin

I didn’t move, I couldn’t. It felt like I’d been caught red-handed at a crime scene, unsure whether to run or stay where I was.
