“More than what?” Avery asked in a soft voice, almost a whisper.

Leonard didn’t answer. He just stood there, staring at the sky, as if the words were too heavy to utter.

“Leonard.”

“We should go inside. It’s cold.”

Avery knew Leonard was changing the subject, but she didn’t press him. She just nodded, then walked into her room. Leonard followed and closed the balcony door.

They stood in the middle of the room, staring at each other. Only a few steps separated them.

She just nodded, then walked into her room. Leonard followed and closed the balcony door. They stood in the middle of the room, staring at each other. Only a few steps separated them.“Avery,” said Leonard, “what will you do when all this is over?”Avery was taken aback by the unexpected question. “I don’t know. I haven’t thought about it.”“Think about it now.”Avery fell silent. She hadn’t really thought about her future or what she’d do after getting her revenge. All this time, all she’d thought about was how to free Ben, how to bring Sophie down, how to survive and return to this house.“Maybe… I’ll go far away. Take Ben with me, live in a quiet place without any ties to the past. Maybe open a small

The car pulled up in front of the hospital. Leonard turned off the engine, but didn’t get out right away. He just sat behind the wheel, staring at the building in front of him with an expression Avery couldn’t read.Avery waited a moment, then opened the door. “I’ll go first.”“Avery.”She stopped and turned around.Leonard was still staring straight ahead. “In my office later, there’s something you need to see.”“What is it?”“Later.”He got out of the car, not giving Avery a chance to ask any further questions. Avery sighed, then followed him.In Ben’s hospital roomBen had been waiting for a while. As soon as he saw Avery enter, he immediately tossed aside his sketchbook and hugged his older brother tightly.“Bro, I missed you!” he exclaimed.Avery returned the hug, kissing the top of Ben’s head, whose hair was starting to grow thick. “I missed you too.”“Yesterday you promised to play, but you didn’t.” Ben pouted, but didn’t let go of the hug.“I’m sorry, I had something to take c

“What's going on?”Leonard stopped in front of the desk. “You almost ruined everything yesterday, Avery.”“It was all out of my control. I didn't think Hardwell would make me lose my temper,” said Avery.“Still, you can’t let your emotions and fear get the better of you. That man was just a pawn hired by Sophie. You shouldn’t have been that scared, especially since last night was just a trap set by Sophie,” Leonard remarked coldly“I’m sorry, I couldn’t control myself last night. I’m sorry if that caused you trouble,” Avery said“Of course. You looked so guilty last night. Is that how you want to get back at them?” Leonard asked coldly“I’m not guilty, sir. It was Hardwell who set me up years ago,” Avery retorted“I know!” Leonard spun around quickly, taking wide strides until he stood directly in front of Avery. He leaned in, placing both hands on either side of Avery’s body, trapping her. “I know Sophie is a snake. But you… you should’ve been smarter than to walk into such an obviou

That morning, Avery slowly opened her eyes. Her head still felt heavy, but not as dizzy as the night before. Sunlight streamed in through the gap in the curtains that the maids had opened, momentarily blinding her before her eyes adjusted. She felt something pressing against her forehead, something heavy. She lifted her gaze to find a hand holding a dry cloth against her brow. She glanced down at the other hand clasped tightly around hers. Warm. She turned her head slowly to the side.Leonard was sleeping in the chair next to her bed. His head was resting on the edge of the mattress, one hand still clutching Avery’s tightly. His position looked incredibly uncomfortab le because his neck was tilted and his back was slightly hunched. But his face in sleep looked… peaceful. Not as cold as usual.Avery didn’t move a muscle. She just looked at Leonard for a moment. Memories of last night began to return bit by bit. Hartwell, the dining room, cold water, and Leonard’s voice whispering, “Yo

“How is her condition??” Leonard asked.Anna checked her temperature with a thermometer on Avery’s forehead. “Mrs. Avery’s temperature is still high, sir. The doctor said she doesn’t need to go to the hospital, but her body temperature needs to go down.”Leonard glanced at Avery. “What have you done?”“I’ve changed her clothes.” Anna hesitated for a moment. “Usually, when I have a fever, my grandmother uses a warm compress to bring it down. You could try that on Mrs. Avery to lower her body temperature.”Leonard didn’t answer. He simply walked over and sat in the chair beside the bed.Anna understood the silent command from her cold and taciturn employer. She fetched a small basin from the bathroom, filled it with warm water, then placed a clean small towel on the edge of the basin. “I’ll wait outside in case you need anything,” she said after setting the basin on the nightstand. She excused herself and stepped out, closing the door gently.Leonard glanced at the basin, then took the

“Good morning,” Sophie greeted her in a sweet tone.Avery was suspicious of the smile that suddenly appeared on Sophie’s face as she entered the dining room. She sat down in her chair without answering.Leonard was already there, reading a report on his tablet with a blank expression. Maxim and Olivia sat on the other side, looking perfectly normal. But there was an unusual tension in the air.“What’s going on this morning? Your smile looks as suspicious as a thief in broad daylight,” Avery finally asked.Sophie set her spoon down slowly, the corner of her mouth twitching as she held back her irritation. “Nothing. I was just thinking… it’s time we reminisce about the past. Get nostalgic together.”Avery raised an eyebrow. “Nostalgia?”“Of course. I invited someone who used to be close to you.” Sophie smiled again. “A professor from your old university. I forgot his name… Professor, right?”Avery froze for a moment. The spoon in her hand stopped moving.“Professor Hartwell,” Olivia sai

““Sir, the report from the surveillance team has come in.”Leonard stood by the window, letting the darkness of the night swallow him whole. The room’s lights were off. Only the moonlight filtered through the curtains, casting a long shadow on the floor. The door opened slowly. A man stood in the d

“Mr. Leonard”Their gazes locked intensely. Avery stared silently into those seemingly cold blue eyes, and so did Leonard. The ringing of Leonard’s phone—which Avery was still holding—made them break that intense eye contact. Avery cleared his throat softly to break the awkwardness. “Sorry, Mr. Leo

“So, you're accusing my wife of kidnapping my two grandchildren?”“Of course, who else could it be if not her? It's clearly visible on the security camera. “They seem to be talking for so long, I wonder what they’re planning?” Avery looked at her tablet screen.Leonard came out of the dressing room looking sharp. “I’m heading to the office. You just do whatever you want around the house.”Avery smiled broadly and turned to Leonard. “I’d be happy to do
