The car pulled up in front of the hospital. Leonard turned off the engine, but didn’t get out right away. That morning, Avery slowly opened her eyes. Her head still felt heavy, but not as dizzy as the night before. Sunlight streamed in through the gap in the curtains that the maids had opened, momentarily blinding her before her eyes adjusted.She felt something pressing against her forehead, something heavy. She lifted her gaze to find a hand holding a dry cloth against her brow. She glanced down at the other hand clasped tightly around hers. Warm. She turned her head slowly to the side.Leonard was sleeping in the chair next to her bed. His head was resting on the edge of the mattress, one hand still clutching Avery’s tightly.
