KADEN POV

The world crumbled beneath me. My heart felt heavy, the pain slicing through every vein in my body. I walked out of the restroom silently, my mind blank like a clean Canvas. I couldn’t think of anything; all I could think of was the look on Mildred’s eyes when we kissed.

Like she didn’t want it, was it pain, confusion, maybe even disgust?

Did she hate me? Was she just still angry with me? Or did she feel the same bond and was simply overwhelmed?

Wait… what was I even thinking?

I just cheated on my boyfriend, and the worst part is that it felt right, this was insane.

I walked towards the car, planning to wait for Gray. But strangely, he was already in the car waiting for me, he was looking just as shaken as I felt, my heart dropped.

Did he know about Mildred? I asked myself;

I entered the car silently, not saying a single word. The driver noticed that we were ready, he walked back to the car and started driving us back. It was a long drive home, and no one spoke. Even the driver who is usually the chattiest man alive. The silence was heavy and suffocating.

When we reached home, I was drained and mentally exhausted from everything that had happened today, so we both went straight to our room. The air was thick. The room was as quiet as a graveyard, both deep in thought. Gray stood near the dresser, undressing his clothes, while I lay down on the bed, lost in thought.

Should I tell him about today’s event with Mildred? I don’t know what he will think and how his reaction is going to be, but I have to tell him

Would he be hurt? Angry?

Would this destroy us?

“Babe,” I finally said.

“Yes?” he answered without looking back.

“I… have something to tell you,” I spoke.

I swallowed hard. “Do you remember the link we felt during your birthday?” I asked.

He turned, his eyes softening. “It was the best feeling I ever had in my life, how could I possibly forget?” he replied,

I smile weakly, “What am I about to say might hurt you?”

“Just say it,” he said with a neutral face.

“I felt that same link today… with Mildred.” I blunted.

He froze, then he slowly nodded.

“I also felt it too. That’s actually what I wanted to tell you,” he said.

Gray changed into his pajamas and sat down close to where I am lying down, directly beside my head. He put his hand on my head, his finger stroking it gently. It felt good, I must admit. “What do you think all this is?” he asked, lowering my head onto his lap.

“I don’t know what’s happening,” I whispered. “But I know one thing I know for sure, is that the moon goddess is playing some sort of tricks on us,” I responded,

He raised a brow and looked at me, “What do you mean?” he asked. I shook my head, dejected. No, you are supposed to say why. “Come on you know I don’t like talking much.”

Fine, I said, dismayed, I feel like her new way of punishing us is mating the alpha’s children together.

Wait, what? “You think we’re mates?” He asked. Lifting my head from his lap, I thought “sweet pie” was the only dump among us? I asked him, he got pissed and slapped my hand, I'm serious, he said.

“You remember the signs one feels when they meet their mate?” I asked.

“Yeah,” he nodded. It's the same feeling we had. Besides, I'm not sure about that yet.

Gray swallowed. “Do you think Mildred also feels that too?” he asked.

“Yes. Am pretty sure she does. But did I kiss earlier and she looked wronged, I even felt bad for kissing her, he complained,

You kissed her? He asked.

“Yes.” I did, he replied.

His lips parted slightly. “We kissed too.”

We both stared at each other.

“She must be freaking out right now,” Gray said.

“We’ll check up on her tomorrow,” I suggested.

“Okay.” he agreed.

“Goodnight, babe,” he whispered, kissing my forehead.

“Night, babe,” I murmured, curling into him. We adjusted ourselves on the bed and drifted into sleep.

The next morning.

After breakfast, we went to Alpha Bright’s mansion to look for Mildred. Alpha Bright was getting ready for their alpha’s morning meetings in the courthouse; only the alphas, the betas, and the elders were allowed there.

“Good morning, Alpha Bright,” I greeted.

“Morning, Kay” he replied warmly. “How are my little cubs?”

“We are fine, sir,” Gray answered.

“We haven’t seen you since you came back. And you didn’t come to look for Mimi, I hope everything is, okay?”

“We are fine, Alpha,” Gray answered, handing over the gift we bought for him and the Luna, “This is for you and the Luna.”

“That’s kind of you boys. Mimi went out with her future beta. Tessy said they will be heading to the beach.”

“Thank you, sir.”

We left immediately.

At the beach

We saw Mildred speaking with Crystal. Mildred looked pissed. Crystal must have said something that made her angry. She can be a pain in the ass They suddenly left for a nearby coffee shop. We silently followed her. She was annoyed that Crystal was close to me, which is not true. My heart nearly burst.

She likes me.

Hello, sweet pie,” I said, calling gently.

She froze before turning towards me, unable to utter a word.

But before we could reach her, Alpha Bright appeared, asking us to follow him with an urgent tone. Mildred tried to come with us, but he refused firmly. We had no choice but to leave her behind,

The Grand Hall

My father sat at the highest seat, flanked by the other alphas, the elders filled the row below them. One by the left and the other by the right, the seats were arranged according to hierarchy. This is our first time here, and my gut screamed that something serious was happening.

We bowed respectfully.

“The Lycan king is dead,” an elder announced. “His new successor holds a thousand-year grudge against werewolves. According to our informant, he should be matching on his way here as we speak,”

Gray frowned. “What grudge lasts that long?” That can’t be resolved after so many years.

“We don’t know,” the elder replied. “But he is coming for war.” Another elder answered.

So, “what do we do,” I asked. I might have looked calm and bold, but deep down, I am not. I looked at Gray by the side, and panic was evident in his eyes; he was not even trying to conceal it.

My father cleared his throat, which disrupted my thought, Kaden, he called, Yes, Father I answered, We have trained you since you were a kid, and I believe with confidence that you are capable enough to lead this pack, he said, Yes, Father.

So tomorrow will be the day you start leading this pack, I looked at him surprised, we have decided to fight this war without you the young ones, you and the rest of the young ones in the whole pack are to hide, the principal’s office has an underground cave and all the supplies you all need for a year, you can hide there and you can come out when everything has died down.

I bow, lying on the floor and prostrate, Father, I promise to never let you down. I will lead the werewolves to the greater Height. I, Gray Lawson, promise to assist him till the day I die; he bows with his hands on his forehead. Fine then, you can go now and meet the principal in the morning, and he will tell you what to do. Yes sir, we said as we left the hall.

The next day, we all came to the school and happened to meet Mildred just arriving. We tried talking to her, but it seemed as if she was still angry with us. We tried to explain to her why we did what we did, but she wasn’t buying it. Then, suddenly, the Lycans.

CHARLES POV
