Claire's POV

I was still unsure how it happened but somehow I got a room of my own, right opposite his, much to my displeasure. I couldn't help but stare off at the blank wall. I had a hard night, my wolf kept clawing for her mate, trying to take control to get to him. I couldn't help but wonder if he had a tough night too.

A knock on my door pulled me away from the impending headache.

"Who is it?"

No response came. I paused, wondering if I misheard but I didn't as it came again, much louder this time.

"Why won't you say something? Hold on!" I pulled back the door to find an unfamiliar face. It was a woman. An elderly one with a poker face.

"The alpha has sent for you. He needs you in the infirmary," she said in a monotone.

"Why? Is he sick?" My heart ached a little at the very thought. It was true that I hated him but I never wanted him sick even though he caused me a lot of pain and scared the hell out of me.

She scoffed like I said something crazy. "The alpha never gets sick and if he did you'd never hear of it."

"You sound awfully close. Are you his mother?" I tried to keep up with her long strides.

She paused immediately, turning to me and causing me to take several steps back. "Please refrain from asking stupid questions in front of him."

"I'm sorry. I guess I assumed a little bit but your tone is a little harsh. You seem to care about him and you've got the same eyes and nose….."

I trailed off she gave me a quick glare.

"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to pry, I just want to make conversation. It's a little lonely here, being away from my pack." I spoke honestly, feeling a little vulnerable in front of a total stranger.

"We don't need to get to know each other. Just do what you came here for and get out." She spoke with precision. I was starting to get the feeling that she didn't like me.

If I was to guess what she meant then I was right. "Darien would never let anyone know the real reason why I'm here and since you do I'm guessing I'm right. You are indeed close to him." I gave a bright smile at the realization.

She rolled her eyes. Something they both had in common. "We are here. He's waiting for you. " She held out the door leading into the dark infirmary. I looked in, taking short strides when I came across a familiar face.

As much as I hated it, my heart leaped for joy at seeing his high cheekbones lined with a chiseled jaw and those eyes that mocked and flirted with me.

"I thought you stood me up." He held out a hand for me to take. "This is the pack doctor, she'll be checking our fertility and let us know when's best to mate."

He looked between me and the doctor when neither of us said a word. It was awkward and I was reminded yet again of the reasons why I was here.

"We should get started, I'm going to need you to lie down." She beckoned me to lie on the unoccupied bed.

"Why are you doing this?" I asked as he walked me back to the pack house and to my room as we couldn't get the results until a few days.

He spared me a side glance. "What do you mean?"

"I mean this. Why go through all this just for a pup? You are making more foes which will only endanger the pup's life."

While tossing and turning last night I had a few thoughts to myself and the pup came up a few times.

He gave a light chuckle. "I don't think that's all you have to say." He paused as he turned to me, placing me under his quizzing gaze. "Come on, let it all out. What's really on your mind."

I let out a loud breath. "Fine, how confident are you that you can control your wolf when we mate? Can you really hold back? I see your eyes flicker now and then. He tries to break free even at the slightest touch." I took a step forward, my fingers lightly grasping over his skin causing him to take a deep breath.

His eyes, fell closed. On seeing them again they were much darker, like the sea. His wolf had broken free. He took long strides and closed the distance between us, taking my full lips in his.

He took me by surprise and I wasn't sure how to react. His lips tasted magical, moving with expertise and promise over mine. It was only a matter of seconds before I melted into him, responding to his kisses with a fire that coursed through my veins.

He successfully pinned me against the wall, his hands crawling up my skirt and getting a feel of my inner thigh. I gasp at the spark that went up my cunt and he wasn't even touching me there yet.

I was swooning over a man who didn't want me, he just needed a babymaker. That was the reality check I needed and I pushed him as hard as I could. He let his guard down was it easy as he took a step back.

He closed his beautiful blue orbs with a deep breath as I gawked at him, trying to catch my breath and he was back.

"I might not be able to control him every time but I will not have a mate, that I can promise you."

Darien's povI let out a deep sigh as I slowly began to feel the weight of the battle I had fought earlier. I glanced at Claire, who was still gazing out of the window, she was still staring at the moon, admiring its beauty. “Claire, I’m exhausted, how about we get some rest?” I said, my voice low and rough. It has been a stressful day for me and now that I am back I started realizing what a day it has been. She turned to me with a soft smile on her face. “Yes Darien you really should rest, you need it and besides I’m pretty tired too,” she said placing her hand on my shoulders. I nodded, feeling a sense of relief wash over me. I wrapped my arms around Claire's shoulders as I led back to bed As we climbed under the covers, I felt my eyelids growing heavy. I pulled Claire close to me as I felt the warmth of her body. “Thanks for being here with me Claire,” I whispered into her ears, my voice barely audible as I was extremely tired. Claire placed her hand on my chest and gave me

Darien's povThe pack members that welcomed me as I returned had gone back to their respective duties and so did Claire I couldn't find her. I assumed she must have gone back to my room to wait for me.I made my way to my room, the conversation I just had with Audrey still lingered in my mind like the scent of a rival pack. The moon was full, casting a silver glow over the room, and I could feel the primal energy of the night coursing through my veins. My mate, Claire, was waiting for me, her piercing eyes sparkling with concern as she stood up from the bed."How were your conversations with Audrey?" she asked, her voice husky and seductive, like the call of a wolf in the night.I walked over to her, and as I sat down beside her, I could feel the warmth of her body, and the scent of her skin, and I felt at peace."It was…. Bad I said, trying to process the revelations that Audrey had shared with me. "She told me that Dosy has a special gift, the kind of gift that makes her a target fo

"Be careful, Alpha," she said.I nodded and as I approached the cabin cautiously, my heart pounding in my chest. As I stepped inside, I was hit with a wave of unfamiliar scents and sensations. The cabin was small with a fire pit in the center of the room. There was a small table and chairs in one corner, and a bed in the other corner. But what caught my attention was the strange symbol that was on the wall, a symbol that seemed to have a dark and evil energy.I felt a surge of unease as I looked at the symbol. What was this? And what did it have to do with the outsiders and the strange occurrences in our territory?I took a step closer to the symbol because of my curiosity. For some reason, I felt off as we approached the area where the outsiders were said to have been spotted. Lewis stopped under a tree as he looked around the area. “Alpha, I've got the team in position, we’re ready to move out and investigate,” he said.I nodded, my eyes scanning the area as well. I could sense that something was off but I couldn't quite figure out what it was exactly. “Let's move out,” I said, my voice filled with authority and command. "Stay focused and stay alert. We don't know what we're up against."The team nodded, their faces set with determination. Finally, we were out of the trees and I saw the pack members spread out before us. The sun shone down on the surface at its peak, casting a warm glow over everything. Claire squeezed my hand, and I looked at her. She was smiling with excitement and I didn't need her explanation to know that she enjoyed every bit of the time she spent with me. “Sweet home,” she said, her voice barely above a whisper.I nodded, smiling back at her. “Yes darling, nothing feels like home," I said. "I'm always happy to be back with the pack."As we walked towards our chambers the pack members began to emerge from their doors greeting us with smiles and waves. Darien’s PovAs we both explored the woods I felt relaxed from all the pack stress, of leadership. We walked for a few minutes and soon the sound of running water grew louder with each step and I knew we were getting close to the stream. Claire squeezed my hand gently and I smiled at her, I knew she was excited to get there since it was her idea we take a walk in the woods. Finally, we were out of the trees, and in front of us was the stream sparkling under the sunlight. The wind blew gently alongside the rumbling of the water. Claire smiled in delight, and I couldn't help but chuckle at her happiness. We moved closer to the edge of the water and Claire let go of my hand. She knelt, putting her hands together to fetch the water for a drink. I sat down beside her, watching her as she splashed the water on her face excitedly and laughed. I felt a surge of emotions I can't quite explain but I knew I was happy to see Claire in that state. Happy and enjoying the beauty of nature. “Yo
