Claire's POV
A loud voice echoed in the hall. "You are not taking my daughter with you!" It was Father. He took a couple of steps forward and pushed me behind him. An act that had Darien narrowing his eyes at us. My heart pumped loudly in my chest and fear started to pool in. I was scared, for my father. "Just who do you think you are to stop me?" Father still held my hand, pushing me behind him, an act we all knew would be futile if Darien made a move. "She's the best thing to happen to me and I won't let you hurt her." "I'm not going to hurt my mate. She doesn't want to be with me as much as I don't want to be with her. I just want pups and she's the only one who can give them to me." He was getting frustrated with the endless bickering judging from how he pinched the bridge of his nose. He could have all our heads in seconds if he wanted to. "You are going to hurt my daughter." Mother had finally come to and was standing up for me. A big mistake as Darien growled at her causing her to fall back to the ground with a whimper. I pulled away from Father, walking over to my mate and taking his arm, begging him with my eyes not to hurt my mother. He sighed. "You can have her back in nine months when she gives me an heir." Mother crawled over to Father who had gone quiet. He was seriously contemplating the situation. Father bowed his head in defeat. "Nine months and no more." Mother gasped and began wailing as the words left Father's lips. It was over, I was going to bear the beast a child. "What about the prophecy?" I knew my words would fall on deaf ears but I had to. Father responded. "It's all safe as long as you don't get marked or intend to be together." "I'm not doing this." I stomped my foot like a child. Maybe if he saw how childish I was, he'd relent, a pitiful thought. "You are and you will. Think of it as saving everyone. You do this and you are free. Free from him and if you'd like you can pick a mate again." Father tried comforting me but it didn't work. I knew that wasn't true. I could never have a mate again. Not with everything that just happened. Everyone feared the beast and no one would want to take what was his, even leftovers. I was never returning and deep down, I think everyone else knew too but we remained in denial, believing in the beast's words. *** * Immediately we walked into the pack house, he pulled me by the arm. "Welcome to hell, Darling." I tried to pull away from him, giving him a piece of my mind now that he had no leverage over my head. "Firstly, stop with the pet name-calling. It doesn't go well with your image." He pulled me closer, we were breathing the same air now as he held my eyes in his icy orbs. "My image? And what just might that be?" I responded with a shaky breath. "You know, arrogant, mean, insufferable." He took a deep breath, his head touching mine."Is that all?" His hand wound around the small of my back. His actions sent a pool of wetness between my legs. I knew he could sense my arousal, anyone for miles could. It was turning into an ocean as he pushed me into him. "Rude, ruthless, evil?" I stated breathlessly, nearly giving in to my desire. "Rude? I've been nothing but polite since we met." His lips were inches from mine. My eyes closed subconsciously as I waited for his lips to meet mine. A couple of seconds and the expected fireworks had yet to come. My eyes flutter open to meet a smirk graciously on his lips. "If I was rude I'd take you here and now, even with the pack members gaping at us." Pack members? Slowly, I turned to find several eyes gawking at us. I pushed him away instantly, adjusting my not-so-messy auburn hair and nude, strapless maxi dress. My toes danced in my flip flops, anything to get over the awkward moment. "Everyone, this is my mate, Claire. Treat her the same way you'd treat me, with respect." I watched a different aura wrap around him, the same way it did with my father except he was more powerful. "Her orders hold the same power as mine." No one said a word. The room fell dead silent before the clapping started. A bunch of wolves walked up to me, congratulating me and wishing me happiness. I returned their heartfelt wishes with a forced smile. He whispered in my ears, "I'll show you to our room." Our room. The wheels spun in my head as I recalled the exact reason why I was there. I was here to mate with my mate! No romance, foreplay, just plain sex. He wouldn't force me if I didn't want to, right? He'd let me settle in, get used to being here, and having him around before shoving his shaft down my hole. I snickered at the silly thought, this was the Beast we were talking about and he didn't care about how I felt and had any emotions whatsoever. He'd take what he wanted even if it meant hurting me in the process, that's who he was, a Beast. I paused in my tracks. "I want a room of my own." "What are you talking about? How would that make me look? My mate sleeping in a different room from mine." I tried to reason with him. "I'm sure they wouldn't think too much of it. I'm still getting to know you. It's normal, all wolves take time getting to know themselves before moving to the next phase." I thought I had the perfect counterattack, I really did. "We aren't other wolves, we are cursed."Darien's povI let out a deep sigh as I slowly began to feel the weight of the battle I had fought earlier. I glanced at Claire, who was still gazing out of the window, she was still staring at the moon, admiring its beauty. “Claire, I’m exhausted, how about we get some rest?” I said, my voice low and rough. It has been a stressful day for me and now that I am back I started realizing what a day it has been. She turned to me with a soft smile on her face. “Yes Darien you really should rest, you need it and besides I’m pretty tired too,” she said placing her hand on my shoulders. I nodded, feeling a sense of relief wash over me. I wrapped my arms around Claire's shoulders as I led back to bed As we climbed under the covers, I felt my eyelids growing heavy. I pulled Claire close to me as I felt the warmth of her body. “Thanks for being here with me Claire,” I whispered into her ears, my voice barely audible as I was extremely tired. Claire placed her hand on my chest and gave me
Darien's povThe pack members that welcomed me as I returned had gone back to their respective duties and so did Claire I couldn't find her. I assumed she must have gone back to my room to wait for me.I made my way to my room, the conversation I just had with Audrey still lingered in my mind like the scent of a rival pack. The moon was full, casting a silver glow over the room, and I could feel the primal energy of the night coursing through my veins. My mate, Claire, was waiting for me, her piercing eyes sparkling with concern as she stood up from the bed."How were your conversations with Audrey?" she asked, her voice husky and seductive, like the call of a wolf in the night.I walked over to her, and as I sat down beside her, I could feel the warmth of her body, and the scent of her skin, and I felt at peace."It was…. Bad I said, trying to process the revelations that Audrey had shared with me. "She told me that Dosy has a special gift, the kind of gift that makes her a target fo
Darien's pov “Ava, stay here and keep watch let me go and check out that cabin,” I said my voice taking on a more serious tone.Ava nodded, her eyes filled with concern. "Be careful, Alpha," she said.I nodded and as I approached the cabin cautiously, my heart pounding in my chest. As I stepped inside, I was hit with a wave of unfamiliar scents and sensations. The cabin was small with a fire pit in the center of the room. There was a small table and chairs in one corner, and a bed in the other corner. But what caught my attention was the strange symbol that was on the wall, a symbol that seemed to have a dark and evil energy.I felt a surge of unease as I looked at the symbol. What was this? And what did it have to do with the outsiders and the strange occurrences in our territory?I took a step closer to the symbol because of my curiosity. As I examined it more closely, I could feel a strange energy stemming from it, like a dark and evil presence was watching me.Suddenly, I heard a
Darien's povAs I followed Lewis? We made our way to the edge of the pack's territory. By this time the sun was beginning to set. For some reason, I felt off as we approached the area where the outsiders were said to have been spotted. Lewis stopped under a tree as he looked around the area. “Alpha, I've got the team in position, we’re ready to move out and investigate,” he said.I nodded, my eyes scanning the area as well. I could sense that something was off but I couldn't quite figure out what it was exactly. “Let's move out,” I said, my voice filled with authority and command. "Stay focused and stay alert. We don't know what we're up against."The team nodded, their faces set with determination. We moved out, our senses on high alert as we made our way deeper into the forest. As we walked, I could feel a sense of anxiety building within me. Something was out there, and I could sense it. I just didn't know what it was yet.Suddenly, Lewis stopped, "Alpha, I've got something," he
Darien’s PovAs we walked back through the woods, the trees grew closer together and the sound of voices grew louder as we were approaching the pack’s territory I could feel my wolf's excitement at the sight of home. Finally, we were out of the trees and I saw the pack members spread out before us. The sun shone down on the surface at its peak, casting a warm glow over everything. Claire squeezed my hand, and I looked at her. She was smiling with excitement and I didn't need her explanation to know that she enjoyed every bit of the time she spent with me. “Sweet home,” she said, her voice barely above a whisper.I nodded, smiling back at her. “Yes darling, nothing feels like home," I said. "I'm always happy to be back with the pack."As we walked towards our chambers the pack members began to emerge from their doors greeting us with smiles and waves. My wolf felt a sense of pride and authority as the Alpha of the packWe made our way to the pack's dining hall, where lunch was alrea
Darien’s PovAs we both explored the woods I felt relaxed from all the pack stress, of leadership. We walked for a few minutes and soon the sound of running water grew louder with each step and I knew we were getting close to the stream. Claire squeezed my hand gently and I smiled at her, I knew she was excited to get there since it was her idea we take a walk in the woods. Finally, we were out of the trees, and in front of us was the stream sparkling under the sunlight. The wind blew gently alongside the rumbling of the water. Claire smiled in delight, and I couldn't help but chuckle at her happiness. We moved closer to the edge of the water and Claire let go of my hand. She knelt, putting her hands together to fetch the water for a drink. I sat down beside her, watching her as she splashed the water on her face excitedly and laughed. I felt a surge of emotions I can't quite explain but I knew I was happy to see Claire in that state. Happy and enjoying the beauty of nature. “Yo
