Run After Me

Prologue

"Ria, sweetheart, you better wake up and get up quickly." My mother's voice is like a sweet song in my ears, gently tapping my cheeks, trying to wake me up.

I free my eyes only to hear more banging sounds outside our packhouse. It startles me.

"Mom, what's going on?"

My mom looks at my face for a little while as her deep ocean blue eyes shine the brightest.

"Ria, I want you to head back to the safe house this instant."

"Mom, are we--"

She put her left hand to my mouth, preventing me from finishing the sentence entirely.

"Sweetheart, keep in mind how much I love you, okay? Remember how special you are."

She pushes me down to the secret passage that connects us from our packhouse to the safe house.

I cling to her arms like a leech; no, I'm not ready to say goodbye.

"Mom, no, I'm not leaving without you."

My mom stares at me with an intensity I have never seen in her before.

"Ria, remember the conversations we had so many times? My love, the day has come; head back to the safe house and wait for me there; Rolf will be there with you."

"Mom!" I yell. I'm stubborn, alright, but I'm not leaving my mother even if she is the

Luna of my pack.

"Ria! Go now!" She pushes me harder inside the secret passage, and I see her closing it simultaneously, moving our family emblem imprinted on the wall.

"We're under attack; protect The Luna and Ria!"

That is the last time I see her pretty face, the face of the only person who loves me, my own mother.

Chapter One  Run after me

Ria

The last shot of tequila brings heat to my throat; liquors, in particular, make this human world bearable to live.

"Robin, as if you would dare to kiss a man here tonight!" Diana, my co-doctor, is Miss nasty know-it-all.

"Diana, stop picking on Robin. She's not the type to sleep around." Doctor Mattew Stevens, another co-doctor of mine, is kind enough to take my side.

I let out a heavy breath; this will be a long night for me; I don't have a lame excuse earlier in the clinic when our senior head Doctor Matthew asks everyone to drink; that can save me from the trouble of talking to Diana.

"I'm curious why is that the case, Robin? Are you a lesbian?"

Diana raises her eyebrow in a perfect arch shape. Her obnoxious remarks are my cue to excuse myself from this nonsense team bonding.

"I haven't fed my dog; I have to go; see you all tomorrow." I'm close to clenching my jaw in annoyance.

"Robin, wait--"

It is too late to call me. Humans; most of the time, I'm not too fond of your kind.

As I walk towards my BMW bike, what Diana says resonates in my head. 'As If Robin would dare to kiss any man here tonight.' Her exact words, I can bite that bitch head off literally if I want to, but I'm not the type to lose my cool on petty human affairs. I'm no human after all.

I watch a tall man running out of the building next to the pub where I come from. He must be so blind not to see me, but my reflexes are relatively faster than usual, and I can dodge him. I scan his total physique. The man is absolute eye candy.

To my surprise, he is aiming for me; when he is inches away from my body, he abruptly snatches me, closing the distance between us, putting his hand on the back of my head. All the hair on my body rises on alert; I might shapeshift in here with one wrong move.

"What the hell--"

"Shut your mouth; those thugs are after me; I need your help."

His baritone tone is manly, very manly, which catches me off guard a little. No one can lay a finger on me; he is the first man ever to touch me. I'm with a stranger in a strange position. How annoying can this night be?

"Alright, Mister, I will give you three seconds to let me go, or else you might lose your hands." My tone is cold and dangerous.

The tall man keeps leaning forward to me, putting our bodies in an intimate, awkward setting.

"One, Two, Thre--"

He steers his legs forward. My heart was beating a mile per second. I can't believe he is doing this!

Feeling his warm palms cupping my face, the next thing I know, he is kissing me. His lips tasted like strawberries.

I storm steps backward with my stiff movement; I can be mistaken for a marionette.

I lift his body, and I'm so sure to crush him on the ground. Another minute he is down.

"Damn woman, that hurts!" He screams.

I have a glimpse of his face, indeed good looking and with those ocean blue eyes? Any woman will drool and worship this man. His well-developed body is a result of everyday working out.

"I warned you, haven't I? Touch me again, and you're dead."

The man is standing up quicker than I anticipate he will; hearing the sound of his back cracking to the ground is painful.

"I told you those thugs were  after me, and I needed your help!"

This is the reason why I don't meddle with human affairs; there are too many complications.

"Not my problem, be thankful I didn't kill you for kissing me."

The man put his hands on his waist, laughing loudly at me. Damn, how could anyone be this downright handsome?

"Are you for real? You will kill me for kissing you?"

In the real world, I can, but I won't. Humans are not worth my time.

"If you're done pulling some pranks in here, dragging a stranger to it obviously, you can start running away again before I chase you."

He laughs again; this time, it is genuinely for amusement. I find myself enjoying the sound of his joyful laughter and music to my ears.

"Chase me? Try if you can." The blue-eyed gorgeous human being dares to challenge me while moving another step closer to me.

"Not today, Satan." I retort, whirling my back away.

I don't find human encounters fun at all; I walk towards my BMW bike.

Humans are pathetic; they act and talk like superiors, but the truth is they're not.

Kill him for kissing me? Try to chase him if I can? I'm a direct descendant of the most powerful werewolf lineage. He can run until he is out of breath, and I can chase him, walking without a grain of sweat.
