chapter One

Zara's POV

My dad's shouts from downstairs wakes me up. I sit up, disoriented and angry at him but his tone makes me realize it is something serious. I change out of my pajamas, and hurry downstairs to find out what is wrong.

I nudge my brother who is standing quietly by the stairs. "What is going on?" I whisper in his ear.

" The same old rivalry between our pack and the royals, but this time someone fucked up"

The blood moon pack and the royal pack have been at loggerhead for years now, even before I was born. I don't actually know what started the whole thing, only rumors about how our ancestors betrayed each other.

It was tiring that the rivalry was still ongoing, even though it wasn't a big deal anymore. Despite the fact that I hate the feud, I actually contribute to it by constantly insulting and goading the Alpha anytime we meet.

I watch as my mom pulls my dad to a couch so she could calm him down. My dad's beta stood to a side glaring at some teenagers. My dad leaves with his beta, and the teenagers are left with my mom.

While a lot of people feared my dad, the people close to us knew how deadly my mom could be. My dad was a big teddy bear while my mom was the real deal.

"And why would you think it was fun to do that?" My mom asked them as she sipped her morning tea.

The teenagers kept quiet until one of them decided to mouth off.

"It was meant to be an harmless prank. We have been playing pranks on them for years."

" Your prank injured people and the royal pack won't be at fault if they want to retaliate".

" It wasn't supposed to get that bad,those stupid omegas just decided to show up" The words were out of his mouth before he could process them, and I saw the look of fear in his eyes when he realized what he said.

"What did you just say?" My brother Zach growled and I didn't realize he wasn't standing beside me anymore.

"Alpha,I am sorry" He apologized and began to move back as my brother advanced on him.

"Leave him Zach" My mother told my brother before telling the boys to go and wait outside.

"Morning,mom" I greeted her with a kiss on her check.

"Nice of you to join the living today,my love and you ,Zach stop growling"

Zach and I went into the kitchen, while my mom went to see my dad in his office.

The table was set already, so we just sat for breakfast. Zach was grumbling as he ate, showing how much he was still angry.

"What did they do?" I asked him since I didn't know anything.

"They went to the midnight club, got drunk and decided to go to the royal pack territory. They met some teenagers there coming from a party and decided to play a prank on them" He paused to steal bacon from my plate.

"I am only going to spare you because you are telling me the story" I pointed my fork at him.

" Sshhh, let me talk. Their idea of a prank was too attack them, and some omegas got caught up in the whole fight. According to the reports, some have broken bones and one almost got her guts ripped out"

" What the actual fuck. Why would they think attacking a group of werewolves is a prank. What is the Royal pack saying?"

" There is a meeting this evening to sort things out"

" If they don't agree to anything, we are fucked" I pointed my fork at my brother." They are the richest, strongest and most ancient pack ever. We will lose if we get into a war with them"

" Let's hope it doesn't come to that, Zara" He shakes his head." Enough of that, what are you doing for your birthday tomorrow"

" Anything apart from finding a mate"

My brother found his mate on his 21st birthday just like most werewolves. He and beth had dated for two years, before going through the ceremony to see if they were mates.

I wasn't ready to be anyone's mate, I still wanted to stay single, and be in my parents house for years.

"You can't put it off forever"

"Where is beth?" I asked, ignoring his last statement.

My brother sighed." She is at our house"

My brother and his mate had their own house, but sometimes they stayed over at the main house.

I went back to my room to shower, so I could go to the pack hospital to see if I could help. The hospital was empty and I decided to go to my brother's house.

"Bethhh" I yelled the moment I stepped into the house.

"In the backyard" she answered me.

Beth had turned the backyard into a garden, and it looked divine. Sometimes, seeing Beth made me think about how I would probably not be a good mate.

"What flowers are you growing next?" I crouched down beside her as she dug the soil.

"Tulips"

Beth and I chatted until she was done, and we went back into the house.

"What do you think would happen to those kids?"

" I don't know Beth, they really messed up this time around."

" Especially Tim, his loud mouth and reckless actions would get him killed"

Tim took advantage of the fact that he was an Alpha to get his way. His dad was one of the pack enforcers, and was equally as arrogant as his son.

"Let's hope his dad learns from this"

"Are you holding a party tomorrow?" Beth asks, changing the topic.

" Nope. I just want presents like a bike and new books"

" Your dad would never let you get a bike"

I stayed with Beth till it was dinner time. My mom was the only one at home, and she was setting the table.

"Where is everyone?" I asked her, assisting with the arrangement.

"The meeting"

I totally forgot about the meeting this evening. I could see how worried my mom was about the outcome.

"Isn't it late already?" The meeting should have ended a while ago.

"Yes and that's why I am worried."
