Instead of a silver spark which I had desperately hoped for, my spark was green! This is so not good, I repeated in my head as I stepped out of the chalk drawn circle, and took my position close to the members of my group. Not close though but closer than any other wolf or hunting group. Much to my relief, the members of my hunting group were all wolves. Male! Male wolves had the tendency to mind their business way more than she-wolves. But there was a strange wolf in my group, one I have never seen, and I immediately wished it was not the stranger from earlier today. The strange wolf in my group was glaring at me, and I couldn't understand why. Again, I wished it was not him. Alpha Demian had shifted back into his human form, and was about to address the rest of us, and while the rest of us shifted our gaze towards his direction, I still felt like I was was being watched, and I didn't need to look too far to know who was staring at me. "Now that you know the group you belong to, the hunting will commence tomorrow by 10:00 PM which means there will be an assembly an hour before. Beta Maverick will give directions on the ground each group is to cover come tomorrow." Alpha Demian spelled out, and reached for the Alpha's moonbrand which now laid on the floor where the moon crystal was moved from. Once he lifted the moonbrand off the floor, he chanted an incantation from the scroll, and the moon crystal slowly descended until it landed softly on the floor at the centre of the circle. While the moon crystal descended, the cloud gradually shifted from darkness into broad daylight, and this was followed by another round of loud cries as we all shifted from our wolf forms back to our human forms. We stood with each other as group members only we were now in our human forms. I peered at the members of my group and realized that that the strange wolf was no one else but the same stranger. He was staring at me, and didn't look away even when our eyes locked. Jerk! I cussed in my head and looked away but his stares kept boring into the side of my face. All I had to do was to completely ignore him although I had a feeling that ignoring him wouldn't be easy. But seriously, how did we end up in the same hunting group? Well, I shrugged after some time. It could only be a coincidence which happens all the time. I already had a bad feeling about him, and I will do all I can to avoid having anything to do with him. "We shall assemble tomorrow by 09:00 PM to begin the hunt. Remember, the rogue Wolf will be killed on sight." Alpha Demian instructed the pack, dismissing us. I hurried out of the shed, and headed home. The Beta will not arrive until about an hour later, and I needed to prepare lunch before he arrived or face been placed at the stock again, and beaten. "Avira!" I heard from behind me. It was my name alright, and I was the only one in the pack that bore the name. The voice was not familiar, and was far too polite to be anyone in the pack. Besides I had nothing to do with anyone from the pack, and no one would dare call my name. I turned towards the direction where the voice had sounded from when I heard it a second time, and my face twisted up in a frown. It was the stranger, and he was heading towards me with so much speed. What the fuck does he want, and how the fuck did he know my name? I decided I did not want the answers to those questions as much as I did not want anything to do with him, and continued my walk towards the Beta's quarters. My action would discourage any other person, and make him back off but not this jerk as he continued to walk after me, and even increased his pace. I was the Beta's ward or slave sometimes, and had nothing to do with anyone else. Whatever I faced as the Beta's slave or enjoyed as his ward was my business, and mine alone. Although at first, it was difficult for me but I soon got used to it, and even relished in the freedom now. But then this jerk had come from god-knows-where to stir things up. "What is it that you want?" I snapped when he got to where I was. I wanted him to let me be but he seemed too much of a blockhead to get it. "I just want to be friends." He said, and I didn't hide my displeasure. Friends? What does that even mean? I could barely exchange pleasantries with a she-wolf let alone have a male as a friend. If the Beta should see me in such close proximity with a male, I know just what will happen to me, and it wouldn't be funny. "We can't be friends," I said, increasing my pace, and walking out of him but he easily fell into place with me, which made me let out a frustrated sigh. "But why? I don't bite. Well, my wolf does, sometimes." He joked and I rolled my eyes. I'm not laughing at his stupid joke. He can ride straight to hell for all I care, and take his joke along. "I'll tell you this just once," I said, looking around to see if there was anyone within earshot. Not that they would report me to the Beta though. It was more like I didn't exist in this pack until I am fully initiated which would only happen when I am mated. "I am the Beta's..." I hesitated, not sure whether to say ward or slave. "I live with the pack's Beta, and it's safer for you if you stayed away." I had wanted to sound as harsh as possible but I had ended up talking to him politely which I hated. "The Beta," he said as if something just fell into place. "Are you happy with him?" He asked, and I shook my head once I realized what he meant. "I'm not his mate." I said quickly. He let out a relieved sigh, and I scoffed. Whatever thought was running through his mind was vain. "I have an obligation to protect you." He said, bringing down his voice, and I scoffed. "From the Beta." He added when I said nothing, and I shot him a look. It was obvious he was trying to get himself killed. I realized that I had wasted quite a lot of time already, and continued my walk towards the Beta's quarters. "I feel every pain you feel, and every whip you receive from the Beta." He declared, and again, I wondered how that was even possible. "By the way what did you apply to your stomach?" He asked, disrupting my moment. The stomach ache as I had just realized, was gone. Who are you? I wanted to ask but instead, I stopped abruptly, and faced him. We had walked to the spot where I couldn't dare let him go any further. My face had lost all of it's softness and gentleness as I stared hard at him. I was trying to decipher the truthfulness of his claims but it wasn't easy or possible anymore. His claims was beginning to sound less like a coincidence even though I wouldn't dare believe it to be true. "Stop following me." I said instead, and walked away through the footpath that led to Beta Maverick's quarters, leaving him to stare at me while I went out of his sight.[Avira]I breathed down in relief once I noticed that It was the same warrior who was kind enough to point me in the right direction that had spoken, and that it wasn't Declan or the giant sized warrior."I didn't mean to frighten you, I'm sorry." He apologized with a smile that seemed genuine."It's alright." I said, hiding my surprise. A warrior apologizing to a nobody wasn't just rare but impossible but this warrior right here just apologized to me, even though Declan had already made it obvious that I was noone and nothing."Cedric," he said, and stretched out his hand for a handshake. Suddenly feeling nervous, I grabbed the handle of the bucket which was now half-filled with water, with the rest of it spilled on the ground. I backed away from him, and turned towards the tap to get a refill, but he stopped me with one firm but gentle hold on the handle of the bucket." Let me, I caused the water to spill after all." He said, looking right into my eyes. I looked away to conceal my
[Avira]I walked out on Declan without answering his question, and I did not return to the room until it was late in the night, when I was sure he had left. Three counts in a roll but that was three days ago, and I have not heard or seen him since, until now when he asked Nanisca to summon me.I should probably prepare for another whip or anything worse than that, I thought to myself as I pulled the door open, and stepped out of the room, into the kitchen where Declan was standing, waiting for me.He was alone, I noted, not sure whether it meant something good or not, and he had no whip which also did not mean that I was safe."Good morning D–sir." I greeted with uncertainty when I got close to him, and as I half expected, he did not respond or show that he heard me. He only stared strangely at me, as if he was searching for something on my face."Go get dressed, we are going for a walk." He commanded. I bit my lower lip, not sure how to tell him that I had only two outfits, the one I
[Avira]As much as I hated Declan, the thought that he had just saved me from getting scarred on my face was stuck in my head, and I was sure it wouldn't leave anytime soon.I was still coughing, Nanisca's hold on my neck had been nothing but aggressive as if she planned on strangling me should her plan to disfigure my face fail. Nanisca was responding to Declan but I could not hear what she was saying because of my coughing which would not stop, but I could see her fidgeting, and her lips quavering which despite myself was a good one.The coughing stopped after some time but continued right after until Declan gestured for Nanisca and I to go with him, led the way back to the kitchen. We got to the kitchen, but Declan was moving towards the adjoining room so I followed from behind him while Nanisca trailed after us rather reluctantly. The air was fresh now, and instantly filled my lungs so that the coughing ceased, and for real this time. The other girls looked confusingly at us, al
[Avira]With the help and treatments I received from some of the other girls, I was completely healed in three days which in some ways was a welcome development, and in another way, wasn't.It was a welcome development because now I can make plans to leave this damn pack but it wasn't because until my plans were reliable enough, I will resume slaving for Declan and Nanisca, both of whom I now hate with passion. Also, Nanisca's threat to disfigure my face rested heavily in my mind, causing me to shudder in fear every now and then.I was on the bed in the adjoining room of the kitchen where I had spent the last four days. I didn't feel like joining the others outside or doing anything at all so I remained on the bed, and pretended to be in pain still.I shut my eyes quickly, and pretended to be fast asleep when I heard the door pull open, and listened with every other of my senses for whoever it was that had come in. They were heading towards my direction, and I couldn't help holding my
[Declan]Nanisca returned shortly after, with the right whip. She was happy with the turn of events, and she couldn't hide it. "Strip!" I ordered Avira, brandishing the whip on my hand. Avira's already pale face only managed to get paler as she looked helplessly from one of the other girls to the other. But none of them could help her, they were just as helpless as she was, and I was sure she knew that already.I watched with so much anticipation as Avira fondled the hem of her dress, wondering what her naked body would look like. But she made no move to pull it down which didn't go well with me. She was Dylan's which meant she was off limits to me. I should at least see what she looked like with no clothes on, but she was stalling.Nanisca, as if reading my mind, undid the zipper of Avira's dress in one move, exposing her back which was spotless. I sucked in a breath to stop myself from looking at her lustfully as Nanisca called on the other girls to get her off her dress."You all
[Declan]In my anger, I headed for my bedroom but stopped by the door of the guest room where Avira was staying. A sudden thought had just occurred to me to lock up the room, and without stopping to rethink, I twisted the key on the door, pulled it out, and then I left for my room qwith the key. Poor Avira!I sighed in mock pity. There was no way Avira had seen this coming, and there was no way she had a spare key. But that did not make me change my mind. In fact, I liked it that she would be surprised to see the door locked, and in a bad way.I stepped into my bedroom, and sat tiredly on my bed. I was restless and I hated to think of the reason. A part of me was urging me to open the door, but I didn't want to.In truth, I wanted to open the door but I also wanted to prove to myself that I did not have a soft spot for Avira, and I could only prove that by leaving the guest room where she was staying locked, so I sat on my bed, paced at intervals but I did not open the door. Once I'm
[Avira]I rolled quickly to the far end of my bed which was farthest from the door, and laid there. Well, I laid on the bed while my head was up, waiting for the slightest form of danger so as to jump out of the bed.The Beta, now a wolf pushed heavily at the door some more, and each time he did, I
[Avira]I straightened up as slowly as I could, trying hard not to give my fear away, and thanking my stars that I had already kept the healing portion back to where I had taken it from before the Beta came in."I was coming to prepare the bed for the night," I lied. My voice had come out smoothly
[Dylan]Somehow, I was able to locate the Omega's quarters after hours of searching. I was too ashamed to ask, and the few pack members I didn't feel so ashamed with looked angry. I was pretty sure I wouldn't get a response from them if I were to ask them any question so I didn't ask.I was tempted
