Chapter 3

When I got home, my parents were waiting for me and Apollo was watching tv. I hugged my parents before I went up to my room and grabbed my laptops and stuffed them into my new computer bags, then I pulled out my purses and picked the ones with the moons on it. Looking inside I see a matching wallet. I put everything from my old wallet into my new one and took the tags off of everything. Last I pulled out the Tiara and necklace and saw the price tag said fifteen hundred, not one fifty like the lady had said. I will go back tomorrow and return them.

I put the Tiara and its matching necklace on and looked into my mirror. My once rounded ears looked pointy and my hair was all black. On my forehead was a crescent moon with beautiful designs going around and over my eyebrows. I took the tiara and necklace off and sat them on my dresser and looked back into my mirror and saw the same image as before. I started to freak out and found that my hair was completely black as I looked down at it.

‘Mom!” I screamed. Hoping that I was having a nightmare and she wouldn’t bust down the door.

“Baby?” Mom answered as she walked into my room and shrieked in shock.

“Mom! What’s happening to me?” I cried out, just as my dad and brother came running to my room.

“Baby, what did you do to yourself? What made this happen?” Dad asked as he backed away from me, hurting me in the process. Apollo just looked at me like I was a freak.

“I put that crown and necklace that I just bought on and looked into the mirror!” I yelled with tears rolling down my face. “I’m a freak!”

I started to cry and when my parents flinched away from me, Lightning struck our neighbor’s tree. I moved away from them and grabbed a huge suitcase from my closet and placed it onto my bed. My braid came undone and black hair enclosed my face. I shoved my laptops in and my favorite clothes into the suitcase as mom cried.

“Sweetheart, stop.” Mom said as she pulled me into a hug.

“I can’t. I need to figure out what’s happening to me mom,” I cry out. I pull a ponytail out of my vanity drawer and put my hair up. I finish packing and grab my purse and phone.

“Keep your phone on so you can call us anytime you need to,” dad said in a sad voice.

Mom left the room with Apollo, I continued to look at my suitcase, grabbed my make up and deposited it into the suitcase with my laptops, clothes, and anything else I would need and grabbed the crown and necklace and put them into my purse to figure out what happened to me. Maybe the lady who sold them to me would know what to do. Mom came back into the room and handed me an envelope. Opening the large envelope, I see a wade of cash and my birth certificate and social security card. I put it all into my purse and took my suitcase out of my room and down the stairs.

I walk to the garage and see my truck is back from the shop, so I put my suitcase into the back seat, and grab my truck keys from the wall where they are hanging. I’m glad to know that my truck was back and working, I hope. My parents and little brother came running in and all of them gave me hugs.

“Sissy?” Apollo asked as he motions me to come closer.

“Yes, bubby?” I ask back as I get down to his level.

“Can I look as cool as you do right now when I grow up?” He asks in a hushed tone so our parents don’t hear. I laugh through my tears and just kiss his cheek and pat his head.

“I will let you know if I find anything out,” I say as I get into my truck and start it. Dad opens the garage door and I back out, wishing this had never happened to me. I find my beanie and shove all my hair up into it as much as I can as I leave the house and hit the road. I call Mary and hope she answers.

“This is Mary!” Mary says on the other end.

“Mar? Can I come over?” I ask as I burst into another fit of tears.

“Nyx? What’s wrong!?” She asks. I park on the side of the street and tell her what happened. She starts to laugh.

“Mary, I’m telling you the truth.” I desperately told her.

“Come to Luke's house.” She said as she also helps me to calm down.

“I’ll be there in about ten minutes.” I whisper into my phone and we hang up.

I make my way to Luke’s family house at the top of the hill deep inside a woodsy area. I sigh as I park, get out, and look up at the full moon, letting it comfort me. I hear a howl in the night and all but run up his front porch and knock on his door. Luke’s older brother, Landon, opens the door with a grin.

“Hey, wolf bait’s here!” Landon hollers for Luke and Mary to hear.

Ugh, I hate that nickname. Landon opens the door and lets me in. I shriek as he rips my beanie off my head causing my black hair to cascade down my back and just past my ass. I quickly cover my ears and start to cry as Landon backs away and bares his teeth at me.

“Landon! Back up and get away from her!” Luke snaps at him as Mary and him come running down the stairs, making a bee line to stand before me, and to keep Landon away from me.

“That damn Fae doesn’t belong here!” Landon snapped at Luke.

“Fae? What the hell are you talking about?” I snapped at Landon. “What the fuck is happening to me?”

Everyone pauses as Mrs. White comes into the room. I backed away, thinking she may act like Landon. I’m glad I got over the crush I had on him when I was sixteen. I look up at Mrs. White and see a warm smile as she looks at me.

“Come into the kitchen, Nyx.” She says as she leads the way, pushing Landon in front of her.

I follow behind Mary and Luke as we make our way into the kitchen and we all sit down. Landon sits across from me and growls as he looks at my ears. I duck down and hide my face as tears welled up, the dam was ready to burst again. I didn’t know what was happening to me. I wanted to just crawl into a hole and cry until everything made sense in this new world.

“Tell us what happened, Nyx” Mrs. White asks me.

She watched me grow up and now she is trying to help us all understand what happened. I explain everything from the shop at the mall and the lady all the way to calling Mary and coming over here. She asked to see the crown and necklace and I told her it was in the front seat of my truck in my new purse. Luke runs out and is back in, in just seconds.

I pull the necklace out and then the tiara. Landon jumps up and walks out the front door, slamming it as he leaves. I look to where he had been sitting and sigh with relief.

“Princess Moon!” Mrs. White exclaimed.

“Huh?” Luke, Mary, and I all say at the same time.

“You are the lost baby! The princess between two kingdoms in Feire. We heard rumors that King Janus of the Dawn kingdom and princess Luna Moon of the Moon kingdom had a little girl with black hair and green eyes,” Mrs. White explained to us. “Princess Luna didn’t believe that the King was her mate and brought you to the human realm to keep you safe, if rumors are to be believed. Heard that she ran away and king Janus after Luna dropped the bomb about you being in the human realm, has been trying to find you for the last eighteen years.”

I let everything she just said sink into me. I was an abandoned princess? From a different world? But why was Landon so upset about it? I look towards where he left, Mrs. White catching me.

“You would have to ask him why he’s so upset, sweetheart. I know, but it’s not my story to tell.” Mrs. White tells me as she hands me my tiara and necklace back. “Why don’t you just go up to the guest room and get some sleep, we can talk more tomorrow,” Mrs. White said as she came around the table and gave me a hug.

“But how do you know so much about this and I guess about me?” I asked her.

“Tomorrow we will talk more. Get some sleep and -” Mrs. White flinched as the door flew open.

“Luna! Landon wolfed out and went into the forest!” A boy about thirteen said running into the Kitchen.

“Damn it. Luke secure the house until I get back, and call your father and have him meet me.” Mrs. White told him as I looked on in confusion.

Luna? Wolf out? What was all this about?
