Cassandra’s POV

“Ma'am…. ma'am.”

The sound of speeding vehicles jolted me back to reality. I had fallen asleep at a bus stop.

I looked up to see a woman standing over me, her face showed concern.

“Are you alright ma'am? You seem to be be bleeding,do I need to call the police?”

“No, Don't! There's no need to call the police.”

“I insist ma'am, you look like you need help, just relax. They would be here any time soon.” She said as put her phone to her ear.

“No thanks.”

I still hurt all over and the last thing that I needed now was my coworkers seeing me like this.

“I am going to borrow this.” I said, grabbing the lady's coat and covering the blood stains on my gown and my body;as much as it could cover.

My apartment was a long way from the bus stop but I managed to walk home.

I took one look at my half tattered dress in my bathroom mirror and sighed. I did not have the luxury of time. Something was happening,to me, with Nikolas and this blasted town.

I stepped out the shower when my phone rang. It was Lewis.

I rolled my eyes before I declined the call and he called a back almost immediately.

“Stubborn pest.” I hissed loudly as I accepted the call and with the most sarcastic tone, I answered, “hello,Lewis.”

“Ah, Cassandra, thank goodness I got through to you. Are you home?”

“i am.”

“Good, There's been a report of a woman within around your location who was seen covered in blood. The caller believes the woman must have been attacked the night before. I would like you to go and check it out before our men get there.”

I was touched; The total concern of a stranger towards my plight but I wished she listened to me when I told her that I was not in any trouble. At least not the kind the police could help me out with.

“Um…” I stuttered

“Is anything the matter detective?”

“Um actually yes…” I lied as I brainstormed lies that I would tell.

“Out with it then”

“I am having my period. It's an irregular cycle and whenever it shows up like this it always comes like a food.”

“Um..”

“Yeah…” I thought, “be the man that you are and get disgusted for no reason”

“Don't you have something like…I dunno one of those diaper thingy?”

“You mean a pad?”

“Yes, that thing.”

Lewis always Found new ways to annoy me, “I wish I could sir, but it's not as easy as you think.”

I could hear him sigh, “well, if you need some time to get yourself together take it, we will send another officer there to do the needful.”

“We would be here investigating the homicide downtown.”

My heart skipped.

“What homicide?”

“A couple of men were murdered in cold blood at a fancy restaurant last night. There's no trace of what could have done this to them but what I can see with my eyes it looked like they were torn apart by a wild animal.”

I gulped as images from my encounters last night flashed before my eyes.

“We would need something to work with and the residents here are worried sick. We're trying to make out what we can from the damages–”

I heard someone called out to Lewis mentioning something about a Camera.

“Umm I will call you back Cassandra, I think we might have something that'll help us and uhm, take good care of yourself.”

The beep that signified the end of the call interrupted me.

I knew where I had to be at this moment. I could find clues to finding Nikolas and at the same time I could hide whatever that might give me away.

I hurriedly had my bath, washed my hair twice for good measure and clipped my nails, Lewis was one unpredictable human.

I got into my car, muttering thanks to the powers that be for not letting me take my car as I pulled out the garage.

I made a mental note to never take my car in any future dates with a man if I ever recover from this.

I arrived at the restaurant and slowly parked a few meters from the crime scene and no sooner than I turned off the engine when Lewis walked up to my car.

“Excuse me, but this is an active crime scene— Cassandra? I thought you…”

I slammed the door of my car behind me, “Yes, you know how the female body works.”

Lewis was visibly embarrassed, his face had turned bright pink. He did not infact know how the female body worked.

“it was a false alarm, my period doesn't come for another…”

“I think I have heard enough.”

I smiled, after all he was asking questions that he didn't want to know the answer to.

“Sure, what do we have here?”

“Boy am I glad that you showed up when you did, whatever these men fought must have been one hell of an animal, there's bits and pieces of them everywhere.”

I flashed my badge instinctively to the officers guarding the entrance as we walked in,“Any idea what might have done this?”

“My guess? A wild animal.”

My nose flared as we walked into the dining room area.

The stench of blood, I looked over to Lewis who was casual.

“Do you smell that?”

“Smell what?” Lewis answered, sniffing the air.

“Never mind.” I answered.

I bent over the corpses that were enough wrapped in body bags and unzipped one of them.

I did not know what to expect but I did find something, the same mysterious symbols on their collarbone.

Whoever these men where, they were connected to the series of deaths these last few months but somehow they want me and they have Nikolas.

“So?” Lewis said, jolting me back to reality, “do you think you can handle this?”

I nodded, this wasy first step In covering my tracks, “just take take them back to the precinct.”

“Sir, I think we have something that you need to see.”

My heartbeat quickened. “What was it?” I asked myself. Was it a nail? My hair? What incriminating evidence could they have found?.

Lewis was eager to figure this out, “what is it?”

“A camera…it's pretty busted but I managed to salvage the memory card.”

“Good, send it to forensics. Let's move guys,” he barked, “we have to be out this place so business can continue as usual. We've taken too long already!”

“But- Lewis, this looks like it was done by a wild animal?” I argued, “should we not wrap this up?”

“Hell nah, those wolves wouldn't get away with this.”

I froze, “wolves?”

“Yes, these is obviously the doing of wolves, there have been sightings of the all over this area but these wild animals have given to far”

I sighed in relief but that was temporal, I knew it was over for me once they saw me tearing these men from limb to limb on video.

I tried to get up from the seat where I was, only to discover that I was restrained to it. “The fuck!” I cursed, “what's happening here!” I yelled. “Detective….” A deep shrill voice responded from the shadows, “you of all people should know how to be careful with their choice of language.” I was livid. “Get me out of this fucking place, you're dealing with an officer if the law, wait till my partner comes to bust this place.” “Which of your partners?” the voice asked mockingly. “Show yourself if you're not that much of a coward.” I spat. “Well if you want to see the face of a coward that badly why don't I show you one.” A clap echoed through where I was restrained and slowly the lights came on from the end of the hall till it filled the entire hall. “Nikolas !” I gasped, “what did you do to him?” I yelled. Nikolas was tied to a chair just as I was. The only difference between the both of us was that

Nikolas 's POV “You've gotten your end of the bargain, now keep your own end of the deal!” “And how are we certain that this is not one of your failed guesses? What do you have as proof that you've delivered the goddess to us!” I took a deep breath, I was impatient, tej longer I stayed here the more I was prone to changing my mind on this mission. I knew that my feelings and Intuition alone was not enough to convince them so I had to settle for the next best thing. “I was not sure, your mercenary was careless.” “She could tell of your activities even though she was human…” “But you brought us a werewolf!” The representative of the Shadow interrupted. “I had to preserve her, The Shadow was inpatient and the Shadow sent a careless fool to do their dirty job even though I told them that I was on the case.” “Are you calling the shadow a fool!” The representative thundered. I went on one knee immediately, I knew that I had lost control of myself. Why was I willing to throw it a

Nikolas's pov. I stood at the balcony of my room. From that position I could see the entire blueboard city. The moon was rising as a knowing smile spread across my face. This was bliss… “Grrrringggg” “Right on time” I said and picked up the landline. “I feel... off.” She was already showing signs of her transformation faster than I thought. Even mine was not this fast with the full moon. But I knew who she was. I could not let her die that night. The shadow always wanted to lay waste to everything but I knew better than that secret organisation of over powered beings. I had to bite her, to turn her into a wolf. I could not let the goddess of the night slip away as a result of one careless mercenary. We've waited for long to have her and I was not willing to wait for another century to find her again. “And a good evening to you too.” I replied. “My heart is racing and my senses are on high alert.” she said as she continued, ignoring my greetings. “ Every little sou

Cassandra 's pov “Fuck fuck fuck!” I cursed as I rushed through the crowded bus stop and made my way to the station. I did not drive back home yesterday so I was forced to take the bus this morning and I hated every second of it. And on top of that I was late already. It was a miracle that my partner, Lewis, hasn't blown my phone to smithereens with calls. I got to the Precinct And without wasting time I rushed to the chief's office. I could already hear him conversing with someone inside and I assumed it to be Lewis. “hello miss greyhound” the chief greeted. I could feel my cheeks turn red as I was already late. “I am so sorry chief, yesterday was a really crazy day and I was….” “I think that is enough miss greyhound.” Another voice came into the office. It was the same man from yesterday, it only occurred to me that I did not get his name from our little encounter yesterday. “We're really behind schedule.” He said as he winked at me. I awkwardly sat down on the chair pr

Cassandra ’s pov“This is getting more ritualistic by the day.” I said aloud as I walked out the morgue. This was the third death in two days and there were reports about missing persons.“I doubt there is anything too serious about it, we have no motive yet, the deaths so far seem to happen at the bars.”I halted in my tracks as I looked up to Lewis,my partner who made that comment.“Sure, should we ignore the symbol carved into the victims?” I said.“What symbols?” He asked.“What do you mean what symbols, each of them had something carved into them right on their collarbone, if I knew better I would say it was a sigil.”“Well,” Lewis said as he shrugged his shoulders, “they might have been new recruits into gangs, I mean we have these cases almost everyday.”“It does not mean that it is something serious, it's one of those murders that happen when drunk people collide.” He said as he walked away to his car.“Sure…” I sighed, “write off my opinion and observations as extra”Being
