Theresa scrambled away from her. She didn't understand what was going on at all.

She got up back to her feet and noticed the beautiful tails floating behind the mermaids. "You needn't run," the mermaid who had spoken said before, said to her.

"Who are you?" Theresa asked, staring from one face to the other as they all swam closer to shore, and she could see their bodies clearer.

They had brown, blonde, brunette, silver and red hair. The one who had spoken to her had brown long hair. "I am Al

"It's your favourite meal," Stella said to Astrophel, who was gutting a skinned hare on another counter beside her. He only glanced at her without a word, and she pursed her lips, took a clean rag, and lifted the lid of the deep pot where the soup was boiling. She added some spices and stirred the contents. She nervously glanced at Astrophel from the corner of her eye. All her efforts to get his attention or start up a meaningful conversation had been to no avail. He acted as if he wasn't even in the kitchen with her. All she got for every question she asked him was a grunt, or the shake of his head, and frustration was slowly beginning to eat into her at her futile attempts to get him to talk to her. Why was it so easy for Theresa to get everyone to like her? What was so special about Theresa that Astrophel seemed to tail her like a pup?She moved a little bit closer to him, and turned around to back the stove so that she could watch him work.He had opened the stomach of the ha

Theresa asked, staring from one face to the other as they all swam closer to shore, and she could see their bodies clearer. They had brown, blonde, brunette, silver and red hair. The one who had spoken to her had brown long hair. "I am Aline, and these..." She gestured towards the other mermaids already flanking her."...are my sisters...We are from the mer-world!""Mermaids do not reside around these parts, not for the past three hundred years, at least that's what the lycans said... how am I sure that you didn't come through the veil?""Well, that's why we are here...about the veil..." Aline replied, a solemn look of fear on her face now.Theresa stared at Aline's beautiful eyes. "You led me here...it was you all singing...wasn

"You are hungry," he told her still offloading the contents in the basket. She was about to deny his words when her stomach suddenly growled in support, and she saw a subtle smug smile lift the corner of his lips. He had sensed it even before her stomach growled out, betraying her. How did he know all things about her? He seemed to be able to read her like an open book, which was weird. "I'll cook," he said then carried the basket still containing some food ingredients into the kitchen, and she watched him, surprised. It was no stress watching him move around in the small kitchen because the dining table was overlooking the kitchen, and one could easily see into the kitchen without having to stand up or lean to the side.He scoffed when he noticed her surprised lifted brow. "Apparently, you don't believe that I can cook." He picked up a glinting sharp knife which she suspected that he used in gutting the animals he hunted or that were caught in his traps. "Yeaaa...." He drawled. "Wi

She lifted up her hand to knock on the door, but her slack fist halted midair in front of it. She sighed again and decided it was best if she didn't meet him in person, what mattered after all was that he received the basket and its contents. She gently placed the basket of food on the wooden porch then smoothed her palms against her skirt to wipe off the sweat her nervousness had gathered on them, prepared to call it a day.By the gods, this was no way to court a man. One had to meet him, spend time with him, and get to know him more, not sneaking food into his property, abandoning it on his porch and making a run for it as quickly as possible. She should be ashamed of herself. Elaine would be very disappointed in her if she were to find out what she had done. Wasn't it even her idea that she would prefer to court him to get to know him first instead before getting married to him right away? Yet here she was acting the coward! She turned around and went down the porch, and star

"You sent the letter, like I asked?" Darius asked Herrick. Herrick nodded. "I asked sir Lucas to keep the part about her mysterious powers, confidential." "Let's just hope he will," Darius said. "I wonder what that slut of a queen would do if she found out about the new events. We can't trust anyone too. Tell the guardians they are not to mention this to any other ear, not even their mates'!" Herrick nodded and got up to leave when Elaine appeared in the doorway. Herrick acknowledged her with a nod and walked past her, while Elaine walked towards her husband and occupied the seat Herrick had just vacated. "You look troubled; I can feel it," Darius said to her. "We need to talk," she replied flatly. "Is the girl okay?" Darius asked in concern. "This is not exactly about the girl," she said, "This is about our children." Darius leaned back into the backrest of his seat. "What is it?" "This is about Astrophel and Claire... Darius, haven't you noticed anything unusual?" D

  • Moon's Call   25. The stroll

That evening, Astrophel and Theresa walked side by side through the village. After being in bed for hours to regain her strength, Theresa had requested that she should be allowed to clear things from her mind by taking a stroll because she was feeling cooped up from being indoors for too long, and Astrophel, despite his mother's disapproval had offered to accompany her. It was as if he was afraid to leave her all by herself and he just wanted to keep spending time with her every chance he got, despite knowing that his parents disapproved of his silent intentions towards Theresa. Theresa watched the children play, running around and across the paths. She tried to ignore the stares they were getting from most of the adults as she walked slowly beside Astrophel, who just put his arms behind him without a word. "You are quiet..." Theresa finally said, without looking at him. "Always quiet." Astrophel glanced her way. "You don't find that weird, do you?" "Not really, I don't wan

  • Moon's Call   1- The Queen's secret

"She's lovely, isn't she?" Alethea crooned as she caressed the baby's cheek with her knuckles. King Adolph nodded trying to mask his wariness. Not that he was not pleased that he finally had a child and an heir to his empire, but he was just not really pleased that it had to be a girl. The kingdom
