LOGINCHAPTER 2: WHO IS HE?
RAYA'S POV.
The cover of the night, and the merriment that had caused the borders to be left unguarded was the perfect opportunity for me to escape unnoticed. I wasn't going to live under the indefinite torment of Victoria, and an even more awful treatment from the rest of the pack.
Yes, I was terrified of walking into the unknown, especially since I barely knew the outside world. I had never ventured outside Ravenhill. But bracing myself, I took that daring step.
No one would've thought I had it in me to leave, going beyond the borders of Ravenhill.
I looked at her mother's grave one last time as tears ran down my left cheek.
"Goodbye, mother," I bade sorrowfully, then I began walking into the dark forest.
I was quite deep into the forest and could no longer hear the jubilation from the pack. It was now replaced with a frightening silence, mixed with the chirping of crickets and hooting of owls.
Gulping as I walked, even the snapping of a twig under my foot scared me. It got even worse when I heard the rustling sound of grass. Turning in the direction of the sound and squinting my eyes, I saw the reflection of a pair of bloodshot eyes flashing due to moonlight.
Gripped with fear, I froze.
Growling mildly, the creature emerged - It was a Silverback rogue. Goo dripped from the side of its mouth as it inched its way toward me.
More rogues emerged from the dark, their eyes glowing at me with murderous intent. I was surrounded. Taking a few steps back, I found herself leaning against a tree. My nails clawed into the back of the tree as my heart raced.
Standing face to face with death, for a fleeting moment, I wondered if escaping was the right course I should have taken. But there was nothing I could do at this point.
In this dire moment, I wished my wolf would awaken. At least, I would have a fighting chance.
A rogue snarled and sprang at me. I docked and fell to the ground, but was grazed close to my left shoulder by its razor-sharp claws. I crawled backward frightfully, my eyes darting around as the other rogues prepared to attack me.
Suddenly, I saw that they all cowered, their heads bent and ears folded in, whimpering. Someone emerged from the dark.
His eyes flashed gold. His long dark hair cascaded over his shoulders, sitting on his huge body frame. He only had on a furry winter coat, but was shirtless, revealing his well-built upper body, adorned with two gold necklaces.
He walked right through the midst of the rogues as they made way for him.
My vision began getting hazy as I got drowsy.
'Poison. I've been poisoned by its claws,' I said to herself.
But then, with my eyes fixed on him, I wondered who this was that terrified the rogues, even though they outnumbered him. I didn't know if he was a friend, or foe.
He walked calmly toward me, paying the rogues no attention whatsoever. It was as though his presence caused time to slow down - His aura was on a whole other level than what I had ever seen or felt.
Squatting, he looked right into my eyes. I felt a calm I had never felt in the presence of anyone, making me forget I was at the verge of death.
"You poor thing. Out here all alone," the stranger said in deep but soft calming tone.
Slowly, I lost consciousness, collapsing at his feet. But one question ran through her mind.
'Who is he?'

Gasping, I jerked up. I looked around frantically and saw that the rogues were all on the floor, dead. My heart thumped and I gasped in fear.
Then I saw the same stranger sitting by a fire. The reflection of the fire in his eyes made the perfect blend.
'So it wasn't a dream.'
"No, it wasn't a dream," the stranger replied. My eyes widened in shock as I looked at him.
"How- How-" I blurted, unable to make the words.
"You're surprised I read your thoughts?" he asked. I just looked at him, unable to speak. The cackling sound of the burning wood was audible in the awkward silence between us.
"What were you doing out here all by yourself, away from Ravenhill, and away from your pack? Are you not aware of the dangers that lie without, especially at night?" he further asked.
I found it hard to answer. I wondered how he knew what pack I was a part of. But I also wondered what pack he was from. I had never seen him before. He was dressed differently as though it was winter, but it was summer, hence my confusion because the weather was hot.
He got up and began walking away from the fire. I sat there, wondering why he was leaving all of a sudden without saying a word. I quickly got up and followed him, passing through the dead and bloodied bodies of the rogues.
I thought he'd send me away, but he didn't. I should have been scared of following a stranger strong enough to take on that number of rogues alone. But strangely, I wasn't.
Up ahead, I saw torches lit, and there was a company of carriages. As we got closer, I saw that they were royal carriages, and there were flags that bore the sigil of the royal house - House Gavanar.
'What are the King's delegates doing here?' I asked within me. I quickly remembered that the stranger could hear my thoughts, so I quieted her thoughts.
When we got to the temporal camp, the soldiers got up and bowed to the person I followed. Furrowing my brow, I wondered what was going on.
A well-dressed man, having similar hair to the man I followed approached him and bowed. "My Lord."
'My Lord?' I was confused at this point.
"Take our guest to my tent and have her fed with the finest delicacies, and give her a change of raiment," he instructed.
"Yes, my Lord," the man bowed, but looked a bit perplexed. As he led me away, I turned and looked at the stranger, wondering who he truly was.
As I got into the tent, everything I saw spelled royalty - true royalty. There was a table that was already set like a banquet, with all varieties of delicacies.
The man briefly left and returned with a servant holding a raiment. It was made of the same furry material as everyone in the camp.
"Please, enjoy what the White Wolf has so generously offered you," the man said.
"What?" my eyes widened in utter shock. "Sorry, my lord, but is he- Is he King Barakar, the Alpha King?"
"Who else would he be?" he replied nonchalantly, and walked out.
I had her hand over her mouth.
"Oh, spirits! I am done for!"
CHAPTER 68: SECOND DAY OF THE KING'S GAMES. RAYA'S POV. It was quite an awkward moment at the dining hall. No one dared to speak at this point as they continued eating. I'm sure they were all being cautious not to enrage the King any further. I looked at the King, feeling bad for him. Shortly after, the King set down his cutlery, wiped his mouth, and sighed. "Well then. We all have somewhere to be, don't we?" he said as he got up. Thank goodness I was done eating. Well, not like I emptied my plate anyway. I lost my appetite earlier after the indirect attack on the King, which was partly my fault. So, I quickly got up as well.Everyone at the table stood up and bowed, and then I followed the King out of the dining hall. I thought he was headed for his study, or somewhere else, but rather, I found out that he was headed outside. I thought he'd like to go blow off some steam. But not King Barakar. He was a man with such an iron will and strong resolve. Why was I expecting such a thi
CHAPTER 67: STRENGTH OR WEAKNESS?RAYA'S POV. I arrived at my quarters and quickly changed. Redchild and Ayana were of great help as always. We hurried up so as not to keep the King waiting. The games were scheduled to kick off not long after breakfast with the King and the Lords. Looking at myself in the mirror as I changed, I honestly preferred the new dress to the previous one. Kieran was always so thoughtful of my affairs. Seeing that we were done with the switch-up, we headed back to the dining hall. I was hit with the aroma of the sumptuous delicacy being prepared, and mild chattering at the table. Right before I sat down, I caught Enock staring at me. It seemed like he was angry, then it quickly morphed into a smile, accompanied by a slight nod. I responded with a nod, forcing a smile also. I wondered what the matter was for a brief moment, then I shrugged it off. "Your dress is amazing," King Barakar commended. "Thank you, Your-" I quickly halted, gulping as I chuckled
CHAPTER 66: TASTE OF YOUR OWN MEDICINE.RAYA'S POV.Waking up the next day, I felt energized. I was getting the hang of things around the Iron Den, and the daily routine. I only counted days until the marriage ceremony. It still felt surreal that I was going to be Luna, and Queen of the five kingdoms - a change of status that took everyone by surprise, myself most especially. Ayana and Redchild helped me get ready for breakfast. Having breakfast with the King, along with the other Alphas, felt uncomfortable. But personal comfort wasn't a luxury at my disposal at the time. I had a responsibility to be there. Worst of all, I had to share a table with people I loathed inwardly. But I braced myself, shelving aside my ill disposition toward them and acting demure, with grace, as expected of me. I had the King's reputation to protect, so I couldn't act selfishly. My only consolation was that I could no longer be looked down on by them, nor anyone else. My status had changed, and changed
CHAPTER 65: SCHEMES AND SCHEMES.BARAKAR'S POV."First of all, her name is Yurali, and apparently, she's an orphan," Talia began."Really? What happened to them?" I asked. "They were tragically killed during a home invasion when she was much younger. It has been her mother's elder sister, who is childless and has never been married who took her and raised her." "Hmm," I sighed. "I see." "Her aunt took ill, and it has lingered for long; the white plague. The physicians requested an amount that they don't have, nor have the hope of getting anytime soon," Talia continued. "And it is for that reason she joined the King's Games, to get the money to take care of her ward? She should have come to us for help, and not risk putting her life on the line," I chipped in, feeling a bit furious at her. "Not everyone thinks the monarchy is approachable, and lends alms to the needy. A belief purported by the lords in times past, and the ones we have presently, unfortunately," Talia noted. "Ther
CHAPTER 64: UNSPOKEN EXCHANGE.BARAKAR'S POV. "Uh, if you'll excuse me a moment," I requested. "Of course," Raya nodded. Then I got up and left her in the company of Cliflan. He wasn't one for me to worry about. Jabin was.I was going to sit idly by and watch Jabin sway the warrior to his side with some display of wealth and promises, or whatever means he was going to use. From experience, his motives were hardly ever genuine. My guards wanted to follow me, but I stopped them, walking alone. The nobles greeted me, bowing as I passed by them. With a mild smile and nod, I reciprocated the salutation. I didn't even know he was around all the while until I saw him walking up to her. He hardly kept his presence concealed in any vicinity, especially in a place where he could show off, and gloat. Just as Jabin was about to reach the girl, I saw that Talia reached her first, causing Jabin to halt. His countenance depicted one of great displeasure as he refrained from moving forward. Tal
CHAPTER 63: HAND IN HAND.BARAKAR'S POV. The first round of the King's Games was over. And to be honest, it wasn't what I quite expected. Yes, I still had my reservations about it, but I couldn't deny the fact that it was a thrilling experience, to say the least. As expected, there was a lot of brutality and blood. I mean, when has the King's Games never been this way? But this year's games came with a new level of suspense. It was quite the experience. And Raya, who also witnessed it for the first time could attest to that. I suppose it is safe to say that it was a good way to commemorate the marriage ceremony between Raya and me. The people were happy, and satisfied. However, the events that unfolded in the arena begged for answers. I lay in bed in the quiet of my chamber, resting, while my thoughts wandered far. I conceived embarking on a journey away from the kingdom when the King's Games, and the marriage ceremony were over. Disappearing once in a while was a habit I learn
CHAPTER 45: DELIBERATIONS.BARAKAR'S POV."The Black Death's interest in Lady Raya is troubling, Sire. But it's nothing can't handle," Talia said as we walked the hallways of the Iron Den, as we headed to the Hall of Lords. "It's either that someone despises the fact that Raya is set to soon be th
CHAPTER 44: ALLY OR FOE?RAYA'S POV.King Barakar and Talia led me to my chamber after I recounted all that happened. The soldiers opened the door as he led me in. Kieran and the maids followed us."I can only imagine how shaken up you must have been. But I'm glad no harm came to you," he said, loo
CHAPTER 43: SITUATION ANALYSIS.RAYA'S POV. During my last exchange with Vira, as I stood close to her, looking into her eyes, I recognized the look in those eyes. They were the eyes of someone filled with pain and hurt, from betrayal. I could relate. I've been there before. But what amazed me t
CHAPTER 42: FACING THE PAST AND ENCOUNTERING THE FUTURE (2).Vira pushed away the scarfaced lady, standing between her and Raya, panting. Vira held the blade in her left hand with the sharp double edge facing up in the direction of her thumb and index finger, while the one in her right hand was he
