ANMELDENCHAPTER 3: MINE!
RAYA'S POV.
King Barakar walked into his tent after a while, and found me standing, fidgeting. I quickly fell on my knees, looking down. Squinting his eyes slightly, he wondered what was going on.
"M- My Lord. Please forgive me for not recognizing you. I have never been outside Ravenhill, and I may not have paid proper attention to be able to recognize you. Please, spare me. Please!" I begged.
The king looked at me stoically, then he calmly walked over to the table and poured himself a glass of wine and drank it partially. Setting the cup down, he turned and looked at me as he sat down.
"Have a seat."
I wasn't sure I heard right, so I was hesitant.
But the Alpha King didn't repeat himself. So I slowly got up and sat down at the other end of the table. It was a make-shift table so we weren't far apart.
Tales I heard about the Alpha King growing up contributed immensely to her fear.
"Go on. Eat," he said. I gulped, afraid that he may be testing me.
"This isn't a test," he said, having read her mind again. "Why would I save you from those savages to end up hurting you?"
Well, that made sense to me. Thus, it calmed my tumultuous heart.
I went ahead and began eating. I was famished. But I was uncomfortable as the king sat looking at me.
King Barakar soon got up and began heading out, then I got up quickly before he exited the tent.
"Change into the raiment you were given when you're done eating," he stopped at the exit and said, before he continued walking out, not waiting for my response.
"Yes, my... Lord," my voice trailed off as I bowed. I sat back down and sighed.
"The king looks much younger than I thought," I muttered. I found myself smiling, not realizing when I did, nor where the excitement stemmed from.
When I was done eating, I got up and washed my face so as to change into the raiment. As I began taking off my dress from the shoulders, I found that the scratch from the rogue was completely healed.
"How is it gone?" I wondered. I just assumed the King must have done something to heal me. I went ahead and got changed.
The raiment was just the right size. I liked how fluffy it felt, but I couldn't deny it was heavier than the clothes I had been wearing all my life in Ravenhill.
Leaving the tent, I saw that it was daybreak already. I saw King Barakar talking with the man who led me into the tent, and he was no longer shirtless.
I then noticed that everyone in the camp threw stares at me. It creeped me out.
"Don't blame them. King Barakar has never shown a female such hospitality, after he lost his Luna ten years ago." Someone said not too far from where I stood.
After unloading some water into a bath, he walked away as I looked at him.
Some soldiers began taking some horses as some of them assembled. But there was a particular horse - a white horse, which was beautifully adorned. I knew right away who the horse was for.
The Alpha King and the person he spoke with then walked to the meet the assembled soldiers. And one of the soldiers ran and met me.
"His Majesty asks that you join us."
"Oh! Uh, okay," I nodded and began following the soldier.
"Pardon me for asking, but where is His Majesty going?" I inquired cautiously.
"To Ravenhill."
I instantly froze, stunned by what I heard. All sorts of emotions began springing up in me, causing my heart to race.
'Does he want to hand me back to them? No. I didn't escape Ravenhill to end up back there! I can't go back there.'
My head swirled as negative thoughts invaded.
"Are you okay?" the soldier asked me, but I was beside herself.
"What's the delay?"
"I'm sorry, lord Ravna," the soldier answered. It was the man who led me into the Alpha King's tent that inquired.
The soldier grabbed me by the wrist and led me to the company. I dared not protest against the King's demand, defying him.
I got on a horse by myself, then we rode off, with three bannermen riding in front, three soldiers followed the bannermen, then the Alpha King and Ravna riding side by side, and I followed behind them, while four other soldiers were at the rear.
I felt uneasy as we headed back to the place I dreaded. All I could do was brace myself for whatever was to come my way.
As we got close to the city, we heard the city bell from the watchtower being struck. The watchmen had spotted the Alpha King's company approaching.
The gates swung wide open just as we approached near and we rode in unhindered, the soldiers at the gate bowing. Everyone in the streets cleared the way and bowed their heads as the King passed.
I'm sure they were all stunned at the sudden appearance of the King, making them wonder what brought him. He hardly ever left the Iron Den, his fortress in Winterhill.
Heading straight to the palace, we met some soldiers gathered in front of it. The elders, the Priestess, Jamey, Victoria, and the lords of Ravenhill were there as well to welcome the Alpha King.
Halting his horse, the Alpha King's white horse snorted, steadying itself. I got off her horse and kept her head down, avoiding eye contact. I did so all the while we rode through the city.
"Your Majesty," Jamey bowed as he walked forward, as did everyone with him. "Welcome to Ravenhill."
The King nodded slightly in acknowledgment.
"Your visit took us all by surprise," Jamey chuckled nervously. "Had we known you were coming, we would have prepared you a more befitting welcome. Please, forgive us."
"I see congratulations are in order. Ravenhill now has a Luna," King Barakar said.
"Yes," Jamey replied, as Victoria stepped forward, and genuflected courteously.
"I am Victoria, your humble servant, and Luna of the Greyhound pack."
"A fine choice, young Alpha," King Barakar commended, making Jamey smile. He then got off his horse, as did Ravna.
"Your journey from Winterhill must have been strenuous. Please, let us treat you to some delicacies so you can freshen up, my Lord," Jamey requested.
"Be my guest," King Barakar nodded. Then he turned to me.
"Follow us."
My heart thumped at his request. The attention of the people instantaneously turned to me. Victoria looked furrowing her brow as I walked toward the King. Recognizing me, Victoria grabbed me by the hand and pulled me back.
"You! Where do you think you're going?" she snarled.
'Crap! They've found me. It's over.'
I quivered, unable to control my frightfulness.
"How dare you step foot here?" Jamey asked, fuming. Lifting a hand to strike me, I squirmed in fear, but his hand was caught mid-air. He turned and saw that it was the Alpha King who held his hand.
"Don't you dare lay a hand on her!" he growled. Jamey looked perplexedly at the King.
"But she is nothing. She's just an unwanted omega," Jamey said.
"Not anymore," King Barakar replied. "She is mine! She is my mate!"
Everyone's eyes popped out in shock at the declaration of the Alpha King. Myself, most especially.
CHAPTER 73: MENTOR VERSUS PRODIGY (1).BARAKAR'S POV."Majesty, aren't you sure you'd need an armor?" Ravna asked. I should have taken it as an insult, but I understood his concern. I kept quiet for a bit as I looked at myself in the mirror. "You know I fare better without one. And besides, what good is an armor against such a man?" I responded calmly. Ravna sighed. He knew there was nothing more he'd say that would make me heed his suggestion.Hung beside where I stood were my twin swords. Ravna brought them to me, facing their hilts toward me. I gripped them by the hilt as I received them. It had been a while since I last used them for anything. They were crafted to the perfect weight I needed, making them effective in my hands. The curve at the end of the blade ensured it balanced perfectly. The curve wasn't for aesthetics, but for function.I fixed the swords in their sheaths strapped to my waist, respectively, with the hilt facing up. It was easier getting them out from the sid
CHAPTER 72: WISE COUNSEL.BARAKAR'S POV. All the while during the fight on the second day of the King's Games, while everyone spoke, making one remark or another, I watched the game keenly. Not to be entertained, and not just for the sake of fulfilling all righteousness - being there mandatorily. Although the latter was my original choice. But in the end, I got sucked in. It was more than entertainment either. I sat by the open window of my chamber as I reminisced. The perpetual cold wind of Winterhill blew into the room, somewhat defeating the purpose for which the fireplace was lit in the first place. But I didn't mind. The rest of the nobles and Alphas were quite taken by the event. They were enthralled all through the event. I was honestly glad they were having a great time - a great time at the cost of lives. Diabolical. As I gulped some wine and looked out the window, the city was still wide awake and abuzz with activities like it wasn't yet late at night.I heard a knock o
CHAPTER 71: HE ALREADY KNOWS.The secret base of the Rebellion was abuzz with activity. Children ran around, playing with their peers. The adults were up and about, carrying out various tasks. Women sat in groups, engaging in chit-chats. Even the men joined in this time. Word of the King's Games had reached even them in the base.Despite the limited space, there were plenty of things to keep one engaged. You just had to look in the right place. The base was indeed becoming a larger community by the day.Vira and the twins, Rooni and Nooni, walked through the base, heading to a particular spot that was solitary, just the way Vira liked it. "The King's Games has got everyone in the base talking since yesterday. It hasn't been this vibrant around here in a while," Rooni said. Vira and Nooni eyed him."I mean, it has always been lively here, but let's be honest - it hasn't been to this magnitude," Rooni still maintained."Having corrected yourself, my brother, I totally agree. The King
CHAPTER 70: THE CHALLENGE.RAYA'S POV.The fights that followed after the first fight didn't come with as many twists as the first. Well, I guess we expected the worst from the fighters after that. Indeed, we were all taken off guard by that betrayal. I should have lost interest, at this point; rather, my interest only increased. All the folks I hoped would scale through did scale through. The girl with the Shadow Guard had become a force to reckon with. She was much more confident. They all scaled through, providing us all with maximum entertainment at the coliseum. Only one person remained.Commander Benek was the last of the original selection to fight. His was to be different, since he wasn't paired with anyone. "As instructed by the organizers, the last original contestant is free to choose a partner!" The commentator announced. That sounded quite interesting to me. I wondered what he was going to do. All the nobles looked, all having different expectations. King Barakar look
CHAPTER 69: DISHONORABLE DEATH.RAYA'S POV.Just as we were all shocked, the contestants were also shocked. Perhaps, even more than we were. "Oh, dear. It's about to get serious," Talia commented. "You truly outdid yourself, lord Xavier. I'm impressed," Jabin commended."We couldn't fall short of expectations," lord Xavier replied, obviously glad from the sound of his voice. The constants looked troubled by the moderator's announcement. They looked around at each other, none seemed to know what to do."Contestants, the games have begun, and it is time to forge alliances, quickly," the moderator pointed out. They all just kept looking at one another, until one of them walked right straight to the girl who had command of the Shadow Guard.Looking at her, I saw that she nodded her head, agreeing to team up with this stranger. He looked quite capable himself."That was a wise move," Cliflan said."Sponsored by fear," Jabin hissed. "He's a coward, trying to latch on to the advantage sh
CHAPTER 68: SECOND DAY OF THE KING'S GAMES. RAYA'S POV. It was quite an awkward moment at the dining hall. No one dared to speak at this point as they continued eating. I'm sure they were all being cautious not to enrage the King any further. I looked at the King, feeling bad for him. Shortly after, the King set down his cutlery, wiped his mouth, and sighed. "Well then. We all have somewhere to be, don't we?" he said as he got up. Thank goodness I was done eating. Well, not like I emptied my plate anyway. I lost my appetite earlier after the indirect attack on the King, which was partly my fault. So, I quickly got up as well.Everyone at the table stood up and bowed, and then I followed the King out of the dining hall. I thought he was headed for his study, or somewhere else, but rather, I found out that he was headed outside. I thought he'd like to go blow off some steam. But not King Barakar. He was a man with such an iron will and strong resolve. Why was I expecting such a thi
CHAPTER 62: INCIDENT AT THE PUB. The first round of the King's Games was officially done for the day, and the folks of Winterhill, along with the visitors from outside Winterhill left the coliseum, none lacking excitement and thrill. And yes, folks had a lot to talk about. And talk they did, argu
CHAPTER 60: SURPRISE UPON SURPRISE.RAYA'S POV.There were a few times before this time that I felt this nervous. And this fear wasn't about me. It was about someone else, yet I felt this way. My wolf was restless. When he raised his sword to land the death blow, I lost the boldness to keep lookin
CHAPTER 59: HEART PUMPING.BARAKAR'S POV.As much as I loathed being there at the coliseum, spectating the same thing I had once outlawed, this twist to the games was quite fascinating, I must admit. It caught my attention. The desperation expressed by the fighters was purely driven by a highly mo
CHAPTER 58: TRUTH SPELL.Soaring over the city, a crow flew to the coliseum. It perched at the top of the building, adjusting itself as it cawed. It blinked its eyes, revealing a purple coloration. It turned its head from one side to another, as though taking a view of the whole arena, and all that
