Chapter 7

ผู้เขียน: Baby X
Since Felix showed no sign of stopping, Miranda had no choice but to sit back and follow along.

The black Rolls-Royce Phantom cut through the snowy night, eventually pulling into a private estate.

A doorman in a tailcoat stepped forward and opened the car door with a respectful bow.

Inside the mansion, they were guided through a lavish corridor before entering an intimate banquet hall. From the domed ceiling hung a three-tiered crystal chandelier, its prisms scattering light like stardust, casting a dazzling glow over the space.

By the rose-gold wine cabinet sat three young men. A bartender in a gray vest was mixing drinks for them.

“Felix! You made it,” one of the men greeted warmly, then noticed Miranda. “And this must be Mrs. Gibson. A pleasure to finally meet you.”

“Hello. I’m Miranda,” she replied.

“Welcome! Great to see you. I’m Hayden Harris—Felix’s good friend and tonight’s host,” he said with a smile that was both gracious and subtly admiring.

Miranda recognized the name. He was the second son of the Harris family, who owned one of the largest real estate empires in Corona.

The other two men rose to greet them as well. Felix introduced them in passing. Miranda didn’t recognize their names, but from their polished manners and quiet confidence, it was clear they came from powerful families.

“Felix, come here a sec,” Hayden said, throwing an arm around Felix’s shoulder and pulling him aside for a chat.

Meanwhile, a server approached Miranda. “Mrs. Gibson, would you prefer a cocktail or juice?”

“Juice, please,” Miranda answered.

Just then, four more guests entered—two couples. The pair in front had their arms linked like a married couple. Behind them trailed another man and woman. The man wore a tailored gray suit with effortless poise. At his side was none other than Xena.

Her black evening gown accentuated every curve of her figure. Draped over her shoulders was a royal purple shawl, and she wore a matching set of sparkling jewelry. She looked elegant, sensual, and undeniably glamorous.

The moment Xena saw Miranda, a flash of disbelief crossed her face. She hadn’t expected Felix to bring her here. But she quickly recovered, her lips curling into a smile full of veiled meaning.

The man beside Xena recognized Miranda and walked up with a friendly smile. “Mrs. Gibson, do you remember me?”

Miranda found him vaguely familiar but couldn’t place him.

“I’m Leo Lincoln. I attended your wedding with Felix. Ring any bells?”

She smiled politely. “Nice to see you again, Mr. Lincoln.”

Xena stepped forward, her voice soft. “Mrs. Gibson, what a surprise to see you here.”

Miranda pretended not to hear her and sipped her juice without responding. Xena’s smile stiffened, and she cast a faintly wounded look in Felix’s direction.

She had expected him to arrive alone tonight. Clearly, Miranda’s presence had ruined her evening.

Miranda had only just arrived, but she was already thinking about leaving. Watching how easily everyone greeted one another, it was clear they all moved in the same social circle.

“Why had Felix brought me here?

“To make me feel out of place?

“Or to let me witness, firsthand, his affair with Xena?” she wondered.

*

Just then, another group of guests entered, led in by a server. Miranda looked up curiously. In the very next moment, her gaze landed on a familiar face.

She froze. A wave of shock and delight rushed through her.

It was James Moore, a brilliant figure in Merika’s medical field—and her former upperclassman.

He wore a simple black suit, his tall frame refined and understated. The silver-rimmed glasses added to his scholarly air. He was deep in conversation with a middle-aged man when he suddenly seemed to sense someone watching.

His gaze swept the room and then stopped on her.

For a second, he looked surprised. Then a glimmer of warmth lit his expression. He murmured something to his companion, pushed up his glasses, and began walking toward her.

Miranda smiled.

“Mira,” he said warmly.

“James,” she greeted, struggling to hide her excitement. “I didn’t expect to see you here.”

“Neither did I. What a surprise,” he said, his eyes scanning her face with quiet fondness. It had been nearly half a year since they last met.

Meanwhile, Felix finished talking with Hayden and headed their way—only to find another man chatting with Miranda, looking far too familiar.

His brows furrowed slightly.

Just then, a hand slipped around his wrist. It was Xena, glamorous and poised, blocking his path with a teasing smile.

“Why didn’t you answer my call earlier?”

Felix pulled his hand away without making a scene. “I’ll explain later.”

Xena gave a knowing smile and turned her gaze to the man talking to Miranda. He wasn’t someone she recognized—not part of their usual crowd.

Who was he? And why did he seem so close to Miranda?

Everyone here tonight was from the top of their fields.

How had a housewife who had spent years tucked away in the shadows managed to know someone like him?”

Miranda turned around to face Felix. Arms crossed, she shot him a mocking smile before turning and heading upstairs.Felix clenched his jaw slightly, his eyes dark with complicated emotions.*After putting Mia to bed, Miranda stepped out quietly. Felix, freshly showered, came in to say goodnight to their daughter. Her soft, babyish voice made him chuckle several times.“My little angel,” he murmured, giving Mia a kiss before pulling away. Then, just as he was about to leave, he suddenly leaned down and kissed Miranda lightly on the forehead.Miranda stiffened for several seconds. She forced herself not to react in front of their daughter. Only after he left did she grab her sleeve and angrily rub the spot where his lips had touched. In the middle of the night, Felix lay on his back, propped up on one arm, phone in hand. He pulled up an old video from eight years ago.In it, a teenage girl sat by his hospital bed, holding his hand and gently singing to him as he slept.“Do you

“I’ll bring her over,” Felix replied calmly.Susan let out a frustrated sigh. “I swear, Miranda’s getting more and more stubborn. You’ve been married six years, and she still acts like a child. So immature.”“I’ll talk to her,” Felix said, trying to calm her down.“I told you back then not to marry her. And now look—this is what you get. She’s unreasonable, and worse, she doesn’t even respect people.” Susan had been holding in her anger all evening, and now it finally spilled out.Just then, a cough behind her made her jump. She turned to see her mother-in-law standing there. She quickly muttered into the phone, “I’ll call you back.”Mrs. Gibson Sr. had clearly overheard everything. “You’re a grown woman, and you’re still picking fights with Miranda?”“You didn’t see how defiant she was just now. If she were my daughter, I’d have given her a proper lesson. The only reason I kept quiet was because she’s my daughter-in-law,” Susan muttered bitterly.Mrs. Gibson Sr. gave her a poin

“I’m not going,” Miranda said coolly.“What? Why not? It’s the long weekend. We don’t even have work.”Miranda didn’t explain. She simply got up and walked toward the lab.Behind her, Coco called out, “That ticket’s worth four hundred bucks, you know!”Later, Coco went to Fiona’s office to complain. “What’s with Miranda? You were being nice, giving her a ticket, and she still didn’t appreciate it!”Fiona let out a dismissive hum. “I figured she wouldn’t accept it.”“You don’t think she’s still holding a grudge over that interview you stole, do you?”“She might not show it, but that doesn’t mean she’s not mad,” Fiona said confidently. “She’s probably going to hold it against me forever.”“Well, if she’s not going, we are! Those twenty tickets you handed out? Everyone’s already dying to go.”“Did James accept his ticket?” Fiona asked casually.“I left it with his assistant, Mandy. He wasn’t in his office.”Fiona secretly hoped he would attend. If James showed up, maybe they wo

Xena turned to Miranda with a faint smile. “Miranda, if you really want that necklace, I’ll let you have it. No hard feelings, okay?”Miranda looked slightly taken aback, her eyes meeting Xena’s with calm precision. There was a calculating glint behind that smile.“I don’t care for things I don’t value. You can have it,” Miranda replied coolly, her gaze drifting briefly to the man standing beside Xena. The meaning wasn’t lost on anyone.Felix narrowed his eyes, studying Miranda’s expression with quiet scrutiny.Xena, too, was watching her closely. A strange feeling stirred in her chest. It was as if Miranda had become a completely different person. Six months ago, Miranda’s thoughts and emotions had been easy to read. Now, she felt like a rival Xena could no longer decipher.Just then, James and Lucas returned.Lucas smiled. “Mr. Gibson, are you done with your meeting?”Felix nodded and said to Xena, “Let’s go.”Soon after, Lucas, James, and Miranda were escorted to meet Mrs

The charity auction wrapped up swiftly, with Xena securing the most expensive item of the night.Soon after, the formal dinner began.Soft music filled the air, mingling with the aroma of fine wine. Guests continued to chat excitedly about the auction items.Miranda leaned toward Lucas and asked, “It’s almost nine. When do you think we’ll get a chance to meet Mrs. Jenkins?”“Should be soon,” Lucas replied. At that moment, the lighting changed to a warmer tone, and the music shifted to a slow ballroom rhythm. Couples began stepping into the dance area one by one.Victor nervously asked Fiona to dance, but she quickly turned him down with a polite excuse, saying she didn’t know how. He looked a little embarrassed, though Fiona’s gaze had already drifted toward James, clearly hoping he would ask her instead.Just then, Lucas’s phone lit up. He glanced at the screen, then looked at Miranda and James. “You two, come with me,” he said.Miranda and James followed Lucas toward the seco

Miranda had just taken a seat when two elegantly dressed women sat down across from her. She recognized them right away. Both were well-known actresses.“Wasn’t Carrie Lopez the official charity ambassador for SY Media? When did that change to the pianist, Xena Spencer?” one of them asked curiously.“The Gibson Corporation and the Jenkins Foundation have always had a close partnership. Changing the ambassador probably only took a word from the right person,” the other woman replied.“So jealous,” the first one sighed.“People like us could never dream of that kind of luck. From what I’ve heard, Xena has been with Felix Gibson for years. He’s turned down every other woman for her. She’s the only one he’s ever truly spoiled.”“Seriously?”“I heard Simon Lee’s team had started negotiations with the stadium first, but later his concert schedule was pushed to August, so Xena was given the venue to hold her solo recital first.”“Wait, not even Simon Lee could beat her to the venue?”
