Chapter Eight

Toby’s Point of View

Violet vanished from view as I just turned to look at my girlfriend.

‘You’re an adult, was that attitude really necessary?’ Georgie shrugged. I rolled my eyes. She always acts that way whenever I’m talking to someone, even if it's just innocent. She’s so jealous, no matter what I say or do to try and comfort her worries.

‘I just want to make sure she knew you weren’t available or interested’.

‘Georgie, she knows I’m not’.

‘Really?’ I sighed, annoyed.

‘Yes, really’. Huffing, she took my hand and started pulling me towards the exit, moaning about how she wasn’t in the mood to hang out with our friends this evening and she just wanted to go home and have a quiet evening in. I told her our friends were waiting for us at the bar, which resulted in her moaning again. I just switched off and let her bitch, I wasn’t paying any attention to her anyway…

Arriving back at the bar, the guys were right where I had left them, except now, everyone else had joined them. Georgie went and sat with her girlfriends and they instantly started chatting. By the look on her face, I knew exactly what about’; Violet.

Ignoring them, I went back inside to grab a fresh drink. One of my friends, Ryder, joined me. He was new in town, Only been here a few months but he’s proven to be more than loyal to me and the pack, and a much welcome addition.

‘How was Violet? Joel said she didn’t seem too happy when she left earlier’. I shrugged.

‘She wasn’t but I think the girls had a part to play in that’. He just smirked.

‘Yeah, well, those bitches aren’t the nicest to new people’. I couldn’t help but laugh. ‘’Bitches’’ was most definitely the right word to use to describe the females in the pack. Overprotective is another, and not in a good way…

By the time we had finished our conversation, the bartender had returned with my drink. I thanked him and we headed back outside. Ryder went ahead of me as I paused for a moment to take my phone out of my pocket, hoping Violet had messaged me, but she hadn’t. I hope she’s ok. Georgie really was out of line with her attitude. I’d have to go and apologize in person on her behalf next time I see her. Returning to the group, I sat down. Georgi looked over.

‘Who are you talking to?!’ She asked in a demanding tone. I just looked at her and raised my eyebrow. The group fell silent. I put my phone away.

‘I’m not talking to anyone. Not that it's your business’. I told her firmly before turning my attention back to the boys, but she continued.

‘I’m your girlfriend, it is my business’. She snapped. Annie elbowed her, in a silent reminder. I didn’t respond, she knew she was pushing a fine line, I’d bring it up to her when we go home later. I don’t like to make our arguments a ‘’Pack’’ thing. Sometimes we can argue without bringing ‘’Alpha respect’’ into it.

We were partners as well as Pack members. One doesn’t always HAVE to involve the other, but the look on her face made it clear she wasn't going to let this go.

‘Georgie, a word?’ I got up and walked away before she could open her mouth to make the situation worse. Luckily, she followed without any more drama ensuing and when we were far enough away from the group, I turned and glared at her.

‘What?’

‘What has gotten into you?!’

‘I don’t want you spending any time with her. You were texting her, weren’t you?!’ She demanded. I folded my arms.

‘For the record, it's none of your business who I talk to her but no, I wasn’t’. It's true, I wasn’t.

‘I want you to stop seeing her!’.

‘Why? She’s a friend, George’.

‘I don’t care. You’re getting too close to her’. How the hell would she know? She’s literally seen me with her ONCE. I hadn’t even seen her that often. How is that ‘’getting too close’’?

‘You’re out of your mind. There is nothing going on’. She shrugged.

‘I don’t care. I’M your girlfriend and I’m asking you to stay away from her!’. This was insane. She didn’t wait for me to respond before she turned and went back to the group. I just shook my head and followed. I wouldn’t be controlled and she knew that…

A little while had passed and I was deep in conversation with the guys when Violet's name in the conversation Georgie, Annie and Abbie caught my attention. I listened for a moment, to hear exactly what they were saying.

‘-I know, she was here earlier, hogging the attention’.

‘Seriously?’

‘Yeah, they act like she’s this amazing person... Like why?’

‘I know, Joel told me what happened that night, doesn’t seem like she’s that special to me. She was just stupid enough to get herself into a bad situation’. They all shared a quiet laugh, and I saw red.

‘Are you actually serious right now?!’ I snapped. They looked up at me, surprised that I had heard them. ‘How can you all sit there and say things like that about a girl who has done NOTHING to you three!’. I scolded them.

‘We were just saying-’

‘I know exactly what you were saying’. I cut Annie off. I didn’t want to hear excuses or explanations. I had heard them clearly. The insecurity of these women was shocking. Absolutely shocking… and disgusting…

I didn’t know Violet well, but she seemed so genuine and harmless, these women had nothing to worry about and yet here they were, acting this way, saying these things. It made my blood boil!

‘Let me make one thing clear, while you are in my company you will no longer talk about Violet, do you all understand?!’ Annie and Abbie lowered their heads, agreeing, Georgie however, didn’t. ‘George?’ She was challenging me, but this WAS a pack thing. This WAS a command and she will submit! ‘GEORGE!?’

This time, she lowered her head, knowing she had pushed too far.

‘Good! Now leave us. I don’t want to see any of you for the rest of the evening!’. With a few goodbyes to their partners, they got up and scurried away. Considering I lived with Georgie, I’d have to see her later, but I’ll sleep on the sofa. I was so disgusted with her behaviour.

Once the girls were gone, all tension went with them. It has been a little while since and my phone has hardly stopped pinging. I had given up checking it because every time I did, I just saw it was yet another new message from Georgie.

She had gone from trying to explain to flat out (once again) accusing me of all sorts. I’d deal with it later, for now, I was just going to chill with the guys... But my phone had other ideas. Eventually, I just put it on silent.

‘Trouble in paradise?’ Joel asked with a smirk. I just looked at him, unimpressed.

‘Insecurities man, can’t deal with the drama’. Georgie has always been like this. It never bothered me too much but now... It was just so annoying.

‘Well, she can probably sense it from you’. I looked over at Ryder.

‘Sense what?’

‘You like Violet’. I snorted a laugh and shook my head, not even responding. That's ridiculous.

‘It's true, you clearly like her’. Billy agreed. I shot him a look and he backed down and looked away.

‘I think she's a nice girl, but that's it’. That was it, all my friends started to chime in about how I liked Violet and how she was a nice girl but she doesn’t understand our ways, how Georgie might be a bit of a bitch, but she is ‘’one of us’’ and she is better than a normal girl… and so on. I let it continue because every time I said anything that disagreed with them, they would fire another example about how I ‘’liked’’ Violet. ‘I don’t even know her that well, how can I like her?’ I defended myself.

‘How many people do you keep in touch with after we’ve helped them?’. I didn’t have an answer. Ok, maybe they had a point there, but still, it didn’t prove anything.

The whole discussion ended with a ‘’if you say so’’ from Rick and the subject was changed, but it left so many questions to myself in my own mind. Did they have a point? Did I like Violet? I didn’t really consider it before…
