How Does She Know? Lyla Atelo. After Sage had left my office, I was bristled. Sara and Ivy pounded through the door once more to see me. I knew they were asking questions and rambling on about something, but my mind wasn't in the conversation. My ears kept on echoing Sage's words... I was his first? Like... I was the first woman he had ever had sex with, or did he mean I was the first older woman he had ever had sex with? "Mrs. Lyla, are you okay? You seem shaken." Ivy eyed me, shaking me slightly to come back to my senses. I took a deep breath and flashed her a smile. "I'm doing quite alright. Just a little shaken up." "What did he want from you?" Ivy frowned but Sara scoffed from the side. "Sage doesn't want anything from anyone. He literally has everything he needs already." She began, "The whole school has heard that you had called him to your office after class. Students even placed bets that he wouldn't come... since you're like the first teacher with the audacity to do so." Then, she smiled sheepishly. "I don't mean to be insolent, I'm just saying. But still... He came to see you. And seeing how shaken up you are may mean that he came to scare you." "I thought so, too." Ivy sighed and sat on the seat that Sage had just vacated. "Well, I don't think that's the case." Sara laughed lightly and popped a gum in her mouth. "I think there is something more... something deeper that is going on between you two." My eyes shot to her face immediately. She stared at me as if she could see through me. "Nothing is ever hidden from Oakwood Academy for long, Mrs. Lyla." She grinned at me. "Whatever is going on between you two, I plan to uncover it." "Sara!" Ivy chided her almost immediately. "Look, I know you like him, but you can't start false accusations and baseless rumors just because he has picked interest in a teacher. What if it is a good thing? What if Lyla, here, possesses better qualities of a teacher than we all do? What if, because of her, he stops bullying teachers and students because his family is actively sponsoring the school?" "Guys..." I pursed my lips, banging the table slightly to gain their attention. "I don't know what it is with you, but Mr. Dominic and I had to discuss the assignment I gave in class. Not only that, last week we had a question and answer session where his classmates and him all lined up to ask me questions. Time was running late and I had to leave the class, telling them to meet me in person for their questions. The only person who didn't come was Sage, and as a concerned teacher, I reached out to him in class to meet me in my office." Sara clicked her tongue. She didn't seem to believe a word I said. Instead, she sneered. "Are you sure you didn't intentionally do that so you could be alone in your office with him?" "Sara!" Ivy hit her fist on the table. "That's enough!" "Well, for one, Ivy..." Sara snarled at her, "I know you're smart enough not to believe a word that is coming out of her mouth. We both know there's something going on here." I was glad that the table covered my hands and legs, if not, they would have both seen how nervous and scared I was about this conversation. I wanted to be done with it already, but Sara showed no signs of stopping. She wanted to get to the bottom of this... And if anyone found out that I had slept with my student, not only would I lose my job, but I would lose my reputation. I don't think anyone would ever want to employ me again. "I know she is manipulating him to get his money. She's broke." Sara spat out. "Just like her husband who is gallivanting all around town with different women and recklessly embezzling his company funds and her trust fund." "Excuse me?" Now, that got my attention. "What are you talking about? What do you know about me or my family? Why are you spreading lies?" I couldn't believe it. It seemed like the whole world was spinning. I staggered when I stood up, clutching the table for support. The office seemed to close in on me, and I couldn't get enough air. I had to leave the office. It couldn't be possible that Michael touched the money that my grandmother had left for me. "Lyla! Are you okay?" Ivy shot up from the chair to come hold me. "Sara, you need to stop all this nonsense." "Ivy, do you want to lose your job too? You know that, apart from Sage, I can make that happen, right?" I felt Ivy still beside me. "Let go of her and go back to your office immediately!" Sara commanded Ivy. "She is lucky that I can't touch her because it might infuriate Sage. And the last thing I want for him is to be angry with me. I've already gone a long way with him for that to happen." She started moving towards us. "Sage's parents might be funding this school, but also know that my mother is the Principal and she has a lot of power here as well." She whispered into my ears. I heard the door shut, and I guessed it was Ivy that had run out of the office. I was still feeling dizzy and nauseous by the revelation she just gave. "For now, Mrs. Lyla... I want to see how far you have gone in manipulating Sage. I want to see if he cares about you a little." Her voice was as sharp as a thousand knives. "And if you think of reporting me to him, I promise you that would be your worst mistake." From my peripheral vision, I saw her lips curling into a smirk like she had just thought of something evil. It made me wonder how sweet she looked on the outside, and how horrible she actually was.Chapter 50The Twist.Lyla Atelo.“I'm not…”“…wealthy enough to purchase this? Of course I know that. Sage gifted this to you, right?” Her eyes were beaming in joy. She didn't look disgusted at all about anything.“What other things did he get for you?” She peered into the box that sat in front of us, trying to rummage through it.“You know I can't accept this, right?” Right now, I needed her support for me to turn down these gifts. It was too much. I couldn't handle something this big.“Why not?” Ivy paused and lifted her head to stare at me with a frown.“It's not right, and you know that.” I tried to stress out, but Ivy didn't seem to be following. “He is… you know, he's my student. I'm his teacher. This kind of thing isn't supposed to be going on between us.”Ivy's eyebrows rose further up and she rolled her eyes. “Take it as a simple gift from a student.”“Simple? You call this simple?” I pointed to the document that still lay on the table. “It's a freaking Jewellery store. Not
Chapter 49A Brand New Owner.Lyla Atelo.Sage wasn't in school for the rest of the week, and today was Friday. I had texted him over and over again, but he never responded. I was tempted to go over to his house, but I didn't want a repeat of the last time.I was currently sitting in my office when the door was forcefully pushed open, and my least favourite person walked into the office.“Hello, Sara.” I folded my hands on my table and sat up to face her squarely. She gave me a once-over before taking in my office as if she had never been here before.“Will Sage be coming for Camp?” She asked outrightly.“Excuse me?”“You heard me right. Or are you dumb?”I choose to ignore her choice of words. “I heard you loud and clear, but what I don't understand is why you're asking me.”“Aren't you the one he's fucking?” She said calmly, not at all fazed by the vulgarity of what she was saying.“If you were remanded in court and asked to prove those allegations, would you be able to?”“Don't you
Chapter 48Naughty Little Slut.Lyla Atelo.I woke up the next morning feeling refreshed and optimistic for some unknown reason. I turned to my side, watching Michael sleep peacefully beside me. I rolled my eyes and began to prepare for school.“You're quite late today. That's so unlike you.” Dominic, one of my male colleagues, pointed out as we walked side by side down the corridor.I shrugged. “I slept late, and I woke up late.”His mouth curved into a small smile, “Your husband kept you up all night, aye?” He teased slightly, and it took all of me not wince at his words.I forced a smile on my face with a little ‘heh heh’ to avoid the question. “So, are you prepared for the camping experience?”He understood my discomfort and immediately changed the subject. “I wasn't picked. There are only two male teachers coming while the rest are females. Aren't you aware of this?” He squinted as if trying to remember something. “Seeing that you're the coordinator of the camp?”“Coordinator?” I
Chapter 47Coming To Camp?Lyla Atelo.I came home with a stupid smile on my face. Sage had made my entire evening and I was just smiling like a fool.“You're back," my husband appeared from the corner of the doorway leading to the kitchen. He wore an apron which suggested that he was cooking.I frowned slightly at the sight of that, while waiting for him to complain that I had come home late.“I'm back, yes.” I smiled a little at him.“And in high spirits as well.” He noted that part, “I hope you had a great day at work.”“I did. How about you?” I shrugged off my shoulder bag which was beginning to get heavy and set it on the table, taking in a deep breath of what he was cooking.“I made dinner. Would you like some?” He noted the actions of my nose before asking, but I shook my head immediately.I knew my husband by now. I could guess what he wanted from me, but I waited for him to say it. Michael never did any nice things for me unless he wanted something in return, and this wasn't
Chapter 46Take Me Home.Lyla Atelo.Sage did not say anything until the car came to a stop in a luxurious shopping mall where he went back to driving mode, parking the car at the exclusive parking lot. He stepped out to open the car for me, taking my arm in his."What are you doing? Where are we going? Why are we here?" I asked him even if I could guess what exactly it was that we were doing here."Shopping." He shrugged. "I saw on the internet that you should take a woman shopping when she is angry. It— ""But I'm not angry. Why would I be?"He gave me a quick look before shutting the car. "Yeah, right, you aren't. But I'm here to apologise anyway."Amidst my protests, Sage had his arms hooked around mine until we reached one of the most expensive jewellery stores in the city."Pick anything you'd like. Diamonds. Gold. Silver. Precious stones. Anything." He said as he signalled one of the sales assistants to come over. The girl gave me a once-over, and she did not hide her displeasu
Chapter 45In The Car.Lyla Atelo."Get In the car, Lyla." Sage's voice came in a little stronger this time as he looked over my shoulders. "Unless you want your colleagues to keep speculating that something is going on between us."Our eyes met when he said that, and I paused to think. Did he also have in mind the same question I had? I wanted to ask if there was actually something going on between us, but I didn't dare voice my question out. I didn't want to sound desperate, but still... something that Michelle said earlier egged me at the back of my mind."What do you think about Ivy?" I averted my gaze from his face and looked down to the tarred road. I looked everywhere else but at him. "Is it true you're into older women, and I'm just one of your conquest?"I suddenly felt the cold night wind hit my skin, and I looked up in alarm to see Sage backing away from him. He stared at me with an emotion I couldn't decipher before spinning his car key between his thumb and index finger.
