Chapter Fourteen

I nodded, grateful for his understanding, even if I couldn't fully express my feelings. The breakfast continued, filled with light conversation and laughter from the other wives. I tried my best to join in, to put on a facade of happiness, but the emptiness inside me lingered.

As the meal came to an end, Marc pulled me aside, away from the prying eyes of the other wives. He looked at me intently, his eyes filled with a mix of concern and affection.

"Harlow, I can see that something is bothering you," he said softly. "Please, my love, don't keep it bottled up inside. You know I want to be there for you."

I took a deep breath, contemplating whether to open up to him. But the fear of causing more complications or being seen as weak held me back.

"I appreciate your concern, Marc," I replied, trying to sound as composed as possible. "But it's just a passing phase. I'll be fine."
