Laura's POV.

I was still in my thoughts thinking about Zara and everything she has had to pass through.

At first I didn't understand what was going on, not until Lucas explained everything to me. His ex-wife Vanessa was back into his life and she was making demands that he would not want to offer.

To me, it seemed as though we were already solving one problem. Another problem was already entering. Due to everything, I began to feel so suffocated in my surroundings.

Lucas offered to take me o

Victor's POV.Lucas thought I ran away but everything was just a mislead. I was still in this city with him, but I had gone low for some time while keeping my eyes on him and anything that had to do with him."Come in." I said, when I heard the sound of someone knocking on my door. She opened the door, stepping inside looking as elegant as always.Fortunately, Vanessa was a beautiful woman that caught my attention. She was really a woman. I wanted to do a lot of things to her body. She didn't bother greeting me as she closed the door behind her."It failed."“I'm aware the plan flopped.”"The attacker is dead. Lucas killed him, he got there in time. I had to pretend in front of him as though I was clueless of what happened. Things weren't supposed to happen this way.”“Things don't really go according to plan when Lucas is involved. Don't forget we are dealing with Lucas.” I replied."You seem so calm""Should I be shouting?" I asked."I expected more than this reaction from you. I me

Lucas's POV.My statements had already been taken by the detective and the police went away with everything they needed to go with. They told me they would call to inform me so I could bring that to the police station. Probably by then, she would be free to speak up. At the moment she was still scared, I rested my hand on the back of Zara's head. The image of the gun pointed at my daughter flashed through my mind again. If I had arrived thirty seconds later, then probably she would have been dead by now. I messaged her hair gently."You don't have to think about that.""I saw..." She swallowed hard while speaking. "I saw the gun.""It was so close to me. I kept begging him but he didn't say a word to me, he was determined to kill me. I kept calling for Vanessa.” she said as I instantly realized, we were actually outside Zara's mother apartment building."Stay here. I'll be right back.” I said but Zara held onto me tightly.“Dad, I don't want you to leave me here. Especially after what

Lucas's POV.l was comforting Zara but I had already informed the police about what happened. I told them to bring an ambulance with them.I didn't know how else to comfort Zara. She was still crying too much as her whole body trembled and her face was buried against my chest. She just kept on soaking my chest and shirt with her tears.“It's okay, Zara. Can you just stop crying now? You always used to tell me you're strong, you're so get over this okay. I'm here with you.” I said, keeping one of my arms around her while my eyes remained fixed on the figure lying several feet away. The attacker was still holding on loosely to the gun. I knew he was dead, because the force and power I used to shoot him was so intense, I was the only one that knew how I felt when I saw him trying to kill Zara."Stay here. I'll be right back.” I said, putting Zara behind my back but she grabbed my arm tightly."D-Don't leave me. Please dad.”"I won't. I'm not leaving you baby, I just want to check out som

Zara's POV.When the gun was pointed to my forehead. At that movement, my breath totally ceased. My eyes were just fixated on the gun. I wasn't even sure I could properly look at the gun, all I could see at that moment was the person standing in front of me and the blurry vision of the gun. My heart was already pounding so hard in my chest. I felt my life slipping away from me and I could not do anything about it.I was certain the masked figure could hear it. Worst of all , the person's face was completely hidden beneath a black hoodie and a mask.I couldn't even tell if it was a man or a woman. I couldn't even recognize the eyes, nor could I recognize anything about the person."W-Who are you?" I asked in a low and terrified whisper.I didn't get an answer from the person, neither did the person even move or lower the gun. The more I stared at the person, the more anxious I became."Please, don't kill me. Don't do this to me, I don't even know you so why do you want to kill me.” I

Zara's POV.I was so angry. I had already opened my car door with so much force because I was literally shaking with anger and fury at the same time. My dad wasn't doing anything about it despite the fact I had begged him with tears in my eyes. I had already waited long enough, he promised he would handle her and she wouldn't keep inserting herself into our lives. But I knew damn well that she was still in this country. My eyes have been on her and I have been monitoring her.The more she continues to stay here, the more she will press our necks down, cause problems, and refuse to disappear. If my dad wasn't going to put an end to all of these, then I definitely will. Because I still have no reason why he's becoming so slow towards her or if he's trying to become compassionate since they once shared a thing with each other.I had already arrived at Vanessa's building. My steps towards her were very fast, I noticed a security guard was standing outside and the way he looked at me t

Lucas's POV.I noticed Laura’s uneasy expression. I had it in mind to ask her but I just wanted her to calm down a little bit. We had already finished driving. She said she was feeling better so it was better we head back home, I drove into the underground parking garage of our penthouse building. Laura looked a little bit relaxed to me but I just felt she was doing that just to convince me full stop so it meant that she was pretending to feel okay but she wasn't feeling okay. I parked my car and turned off the engine.“You know you can talk to me. Tell me what is bothering you.” I said, holding her hand in mine as I watched her breathe in deeply.“Actually, the problem is I saw your ex-wife coming out of Victor Morgan's building.” she said.“What the hell!!! Victor is not in the country anymore so are you sure you saw correctly? Did you see Victor?”“That is what makes me wonder. You told me he left the country, and if he had returned you would actually find out about it. But I kno

Laura's POV.I didn't say a word to Lucas. Because if I opened my mouth, I wasn't sure of what would come out of it. If it were truth or lies, or something in between that could ruin everything.I just stood there, holding the file like it was the only thing that could keep me on the right track.L

Lucas's POV.Weeks passed, but that night refused to loosen its grip on me. It refused to stay where it belonged. That night would always stay in the quiet moments that I had to myself. Laura's pov.The alcohol burned in my veins. It was louder than my thoughts. I knew this wasn't me. Not the sober me. Not the careful girl who over thought everything and apologized too much. But the alcohol didn't care about who I usually was. It peeled me open and let something reckless breathe.
