I bit my lip, regretting every decision that brought me here.

My gut had screamed no from the start, and I should’ve listened.

The second my eyes landed on Lucien sitting across the table, every ounce of calm I had vanished. I turned to Maddie, trying to make sense of her excitement.

What the hell was she thinking bringing me here?

It felt like some weird reunion, and I was clearly the odd one out.

Lucien leaned back in his chair, his tone flat.

“If you don’t want to stay, you can leave. No one’s forcing you.”

Maddie immediately rolled her eyes at him. “Don’t mind him, he’s just being himself.”

I exhaled sharply and moved to sit beside Lauren, as far from Lucien as I could get.

I turned to Maddie.

“Why didn’t you tell me he was going to be here?”

She gave a tiny shrug.

“It was last minute. I just thought it’d be nice to have all my close friends in one place. Your boss and I used to hang out before, but he’s been ghosting me lately.”
