On the day of my tenth wedding anniversary, my best friend, Jordan Price, shows up at my doorstep with a cancer diagnosis. He informs me he only has a month left to live, and his dying wish is to have my wife, Renee Myers, be his bride for a day to complete a non-binding wedding ceremony. In my previous life, I find the whole idea absurd. I tell him it isn't appropriate and turn him down. That night, he leaves a suicide note and jumps into the ocean. Jordan had been orphaned at a young age, and Mom takes him in and raises him as her own. When my son, Oliver Hall, is five years old, Jordan even risks his life to rescue him from a blazing building. Consequently, my entire family concludes that my sins are unforgivable and that I've driven him to his grave. Mom disowns me, and my younger brother, Philip Hall, cuts off all contact with me. Every year, Renee will wear her wedding gown and go to the beach to mourn him. My wife and son loathe me for a decade. … On the day of Oliver's wedding, he sets Jordan's memorial portrait at the head table and publicly declares that he wants nothing to do with me, his father, who supposedly killed the man who saved his life. Later on, after I suffer a stroke and end up paralyzed, Renee frames me as mentally unstable and has me committed to a mental asylum. On the day I breathe my last, I receive a video. Jordan, who is supposed to have been dead for a decade, has his arm around my wife. He's all smiles as he tells me he doesn't have cancer, and he never actually killed himself. … When I open my eyes again, I'm back on the day Jordan hands me his cancer diagnosis. Renee's eyes are brimming with tears as she takes off her wedding ring. "Jordan only wants me to be his bride for a day. Can't you grant him this one wish?" Everyone expects me to refuse. However, I take the ring from her and casually toss it into the trash. "I can. Sign the divorce agreement today, and I'll walk you down the aisle tomorrow."

Chapter 1

Renee Myers' tears froze in an instant. "What's the meaning of this, Terrence?"

"It's exactly as I said."

She sprang to her feet. "I'm merely helping Jordan fulfill his dying wish. Do you really have to threaten me with divorce? He's dying, for God's sake! How can you still have such disgusting thoughts in your head?"

Jordan Price let out a couple of weak coughs before reaching out to take her hand. "Forget it, Ren. I shouldn't ruin your marriage just because I'm dying."

Even though he asked her to forget it, he fished the wedding ring out of the trash and clutched it tightly in his palm. His movement was so swift it was as if he was afraid I might change my mind.

Mom burst through the door with my younger brother, Philip Hall, and my son, Oliver Hall, just in time to witness this scene.

"Are you even human, Terrence Hall?" Mom raised her hand to slap me.

I took a step back, and her palm missed its mark.

My 15-year-old son threw himself in front of Jordan. The former's eyes were brimming with tears as he yelled at me, "Uncle Jordan saved my life! This is his only wish! Why can't you just give him this one thing?"

In my previous life, those words had pierced my heart like a knife. In this life, I found them nothing short of laughable.

I nodded. "I'll let him have it. In fact, I'll personally organize the wedding—the hotel, the officiant, the wedding, and the guest list!"

The room fell dead silent.

Renee stared at me, as if she couldn't figure out what I was playing at.

I continued, "Let's not turn this into some secretive deathbed ceremony. Since it's true love, all our friends and family should be there to witness it."

Jordan's eyes lit up, yet he refused. "Terrence, I genuinely have no intention of stealing Ren from you. Once tomorrow's wedding is over, I'll give her back to you. I merely want to experience what it's like to get married before I die."

I chuckled. "That won't be necessary."

Right on cue, the divorce agreement my lawyer had sent arrived in my inbox. I printed it out and slid it across the table to Renee. "Sign it."

Renee was so furious that her fingers trembled. "Do you think I don't have the guts to sign it?"

She picked up a pen and signed her name on the agreement before hurling it at me. "Once the wedding is over, don't come crawling back to me on your knees!"

I put the agreement away and turned to Jordan. "Get ready to take her off my hands tomorrow, groom-to-be."

Everyone assumed I'd finally backed down. However, as soon as I returned to my study, I locked the door and called my lawyer. "Freeze our joint accounts and conduct a thorough audit of our assets."

Next, I contacted a forensic investigator. "Look into Jordan. His medical records, bank statements, travel records, and all his interactions with my wife over the years. The sooner, the better!"
