*****EMMELINE'S POV*****

My eyes fluttered open slowly, every breath shallow and my body aching as I tried to orient myself. The room was dim, moonlight streaming faintly through the curtains—Kareena’s room. I was strapped to the bed.

Panic surged in my chest.

My baby.

My hands trembled as I reached for my stomach, dread sinking into my bones.

“The baby is safe,” a calm voice said, pulling my attention sharply to the corner.

Grace.

She sat at the edge of the bed, her face somber, “We got to you in time. The poison didn’t reach the womb.”

I tried to sit up, but the weakness was unbearable. My limbs felt like stone.

“Don’t move,” she said gently. “You lost a lot of blood, Emmeline. You need to rest.”

I fought the fog in my mind. “It… it was Elara,” I rasped. “She knew. She knew about the baby. She poisoned me.”

Grace’s eyes darkened, her jaw tightening. “I know. I saw it in a vision… but by the time I understood what it meant, it was already too late.”

A bitter chill settled in my chest

*****CEDRIC POV******It’s been two days since my arrival in Zanzi. The people here have been quite hospitable—unlike the stories we were told.I wouldn’t be surprised if the Council made up those tales to keep us trapped in Elton, forcing us to endure their vicious oppression.Ava had returned to Elton immediately after making sure I arrived safely in Zanzi, so there were no answers to satisfy my burning curiosity.“Here,” Mario offered me a piece of roasted beef.I turned it down—I didn’t really have an appetite.“When will Ava return?” I asked, watching him stuff food into his mouth. He shrugged. “I don’t know. She needs to bring back more supplies.”I frowned, raising a questioning brow. “Supplies?”“The tribal chief ensures everything runs in an orderly fashion. Everyone is responsible for themselves, unless they’re handicapped. So Ava has to bring supplies for the three of us while I stay here to protect you,” Mario explained.I could only sigh. It was a strange rule, but if it

*****EMMELINE'S POV***** I clenched my fist as I drank the cup of tea Elara had served earlier. It had been two days with no news on Cedric’s whereabouts. The pack was in utter chaos. “Any information?” I asked the moment Marci stepped into the room. He sighed just as Grace entered and quietly shut the door behind her. “The word going around is that Cedric was supposed to be stoned to death in the courtyard—but he escaped,” Marci said, rubbing his temples. “At least he’s alive… wherever he is, right?” I murmured, rubbing my stomach in worry. “I believe he is,” Grace replied firmly, drawing a dagger from beneath her cloak, causing my brows to furrow. “Take it. You might need it soon,” she said quietly, placing the weapon in my right hand before leaving without another word. I glanced at Marci, confused. “What’s happening?” He stepped closer, lowering his voice to a whisper. “Lord Cedric has been framed and exiled. It won’t be long before the Council moves to overtake the pack,

*******CEDRIC POV*******I placed my hands on the cold, cemented floor, clutching my chest in pain. The lingering scent of wolfsbane still hung thick in the air, making me weak and nauseous. It looked like I was in some kind of dungeon—damp, dark, and disgusting. The stench of feces and urine clung to every inch of the space.Memories from yesterday came crashing back—Lord Devlin’s accusations, the chaos, and… my arrest. How did Devlin know about my wolf form? I had been so careful. I told no one except Grace, Marci, and Colima.Unless…No. One of them couldn’t have betrayed me. They wouldn’t.But Mario’s warning echoed in my mind—“The spy is within your pack… closer than you think.”No… it can’t be.I couldn’t stop thinking about Emmeline and the rest of the pack. Had the Council attacked them? Was Emmeline safe? What does she think of me now? I groaned and forced my upper body up, leaning against the filthy wall for support. The iron door creaked open, but I couldn’t make out the f

******EMMELINE'S POV*****I stared out the window with a small smile as I watched Cedric train the pack warriors—he looked so powerful and strong.Time had flown by so fast. It had already been a month since my father’s name was officially cleared. The news of my mating with Cedric had spread across all of Elton.Even the pack members had become more accepting. Some had even offered apologies for their past behavior. It didn’t completely erase the pain, but I was beginning to feel better.Over the past few weeks, I had grown more familiar with the pack duties—and I’d started painting more often too.Life had been... good. Almost like a fairytale.A soft kiss on my neck pulled me from my thoughts, and I smiled as I leaned into the touch. Cedric.“How did you get here so fast?” I asked, turning to see him smiling back at me.“Speed,” he replied casually, linking his fingers with mine.I furrowed my brows at his answer. No human speed could’ve brought him into my room that quickly.“Cedr

*****EMMELINE'S POV******* The news of the Council leader’s death spread like wildfire. It was shocking enough that he had been murdered, but by his own daughter? Rumors swirled. Some claimed Ava was his illegitimate child, mistreated and scorned her entire life. But no one could confirm anything. The only person who could—Ava—had escaped before her execution. “So… what happens now?” I asked Elara as she finished brushing my hair. She shrugged. “I really don’t know.” Elara had become my only source of information. Since Cedric had tightened the security around the pack, I wasn’t allowed to leave—not that I had anywhere to go. “I heard a new Council leader has been elected,” she added, gathering the combs and pins from the table. “But I didn’t catch his name.” I yawned, though I had barely done anything today. Fatigue clung to me constantly. “Are you sure you’re alright?” Elara asked, her voice tinged with concern. I nodded quickly. It wasn’t that I didn’t trust her, it was ju

****CEDRIC POV***As I watched Emmeline leave the room, I let out a deep sigh of frustration. How could she say that?Rejection? Does she really think that’s the right solution?I rubbed my forehead, trying to calm the storm of emotions building within me. I had more urgent matters to deal with now.Ava…She attacked me last night. Why? I never trusted her, but I didn’t think she’d go so far as to try and kill me.I’d been certain she was smitten with me or maybe that was just an act to hide her true intentions. Her hatred.“My Lord, you’re awake?” the physician asked, entering the room with a mix of confusion and surprise.I frowned. “Would you prefer me dead?” I muttered sarcastically. He shook his head vehemently. “No, my Lord! Please pardon my reaction. It’s just… the potion you were injected with. it’s unlike anything I’ve ever seen before.”I narrowed my eyes. “Really?”Not surprising. Ava worked with the Council and they collaborated with the witches of Arachne. It’s no wonder

*****EMMELINE'S POV*****The pack was in disarray when I returned. Confused, I walked over to Grace, who was speaking with the guards."What's happening?" I asked, noticing the guards following a trail through the bushes."Where have you been, Emmeline?" Grace asked, instructing the guards to leave us."Somewhere," I muttered nonchalantly. I couldn't possibly tell her I went to see Lord Anthony. She would tell Cedric—and from what I've heard, Cedric doesn't like Lord Anthony. She scoffed, ignoring my insolent reply. "We were attacked by Ava. Lord Cedric is at the clinic."I froze at her words. What does she mean Cedric is in the clinic? He's one of the strongest Alphas I know. Why would Ava attack him? I saw them talking earlier today like friends… So what's with the sudden hostility?Without thinking twice, I ran to the pack infirmary. Grace called after me, but I didn’t respond. When I arrived, the physicians directed me to his bed. It struck me how the pack's hostility toward me ha

********CEDRIC POV*****I paced my room, a hand pressed to my lips as I smiled, replaying the kiss over and over in my mind. Maybe…just maybe…there was still hope.Hope for Emmeline and me.Hope that we can find our way back to each other.I would risk it all. I’d do everything in my power to win my mate back. But right now, I had to focus on the issue at hand; the spy.Grace and I had searched every corner of the manor and questioned every member of the pack, but so far, everyone had come out clean. The poison used was the same type as before—Shadow Bite, the one used on Emmeline. But according to our investigation, there hadn't been a witch in this manor since Juliet and July’s departure.I rubbed my forehead, already exhausted from chasing shadows.Just then, the door creaked open slowly. I frowned, irritated by the intrusion, especially from someone who didn’t even bother to knock.“What do you want?” I asked sharply when I saw Ava leaning casually against the doorframe. She let o
