LOGIN‘Ma please you can't go in” The secretary dragged.
Raymond didn’t look up when the office door swung open. He remained busy at his annoying files that have kept him rigid since morning, his expression clearly looks pissed off by network issues from his system.
He was still necked deep into his work when a young lady walked in.
Her heels clicking distinctly against the marble floor, with her navy blue blazer exuding all poise and sophistication. Her hair tied up in a sleeked bun, her nude lipstick matching her make-up. Each step she made was more like an assertion that makes her impossible to be ignored. She shut the door softly behind her, ignoring the secretary’s feeble attempt to stop her from barging in.
“Hello, Mr Raymond”.
Raymond lifted his gaze. A flash of annoyance crossed his face, curious of what a strange lady with such boldness would be looking for in his office. “Who are you please?” he asked curiously.
Resting her laps in front of his desk, unbothered and unbiased, never minding the professional disdain, she responded. “I am Mira, a daughter to Mayor Eves. I am the betrothed wife to a man your wife swore not to leave”.
“Excuse me, My wife? What are you talking about?”
“Oh please spare me those crap Mr Raymond. Why pretend as if you don't know what I'm talking about?”
“What?” Raymond asked curiously.
“Take a look at this”. She flipped a file dismissively towards him with a flick of her hand and the other one resting lightly on her chin radiating just dominance.
“Maybe this will explain better before the media does.” She said tilting her head and studying him with the confidence of someone who already knew the outcome. Raymond’s eyes narrowed widely at the file wondering the hidden danger inside it.
Immediately he opened the folder…. He was shocked at what he saw. A printed hospital form with his estranged wife’s name written boldly on it…NICOLE VANCE. Stating clearly of her accident the previous day with Xavier.
“What is Nichole doing with another man?” He thought.
Raymond’s heart immediately kicked hard against his ribs, driven by emotions he couldn’t explain.
“Young Lady, Where did you get this?” he asked angrily.
“Does it matter?” Mira replied coldly. “Your ex-wife has been busy.”
He looked up sharply. “You watch your tone.”
“No, Raymond,” Mira said, leaning forward on his desk, as she spoke. “You’re the one who needs to watch her.”
He slammed the folder shut at her face, waving out the thoughts battling in his head. “Spare me all these, Nichole can't do such a thing.” He snapped.
“Oh why are you suddenly trusting her now? You think she wouldn't .” Mira cuts in. “She had a one-night stand with my boyfriend, and now, conveniently ends up in his car, in a disguise of being crushed under a truck which is making waves in all blogs right now.”You think this is a joke? Don’t act like it doesn’t look suspicious.”
Raymond stared at her, stunned and speechless at her words. The idea of Nichole moving on so quickly with another man is still unbelievable .
Trying to yank it off again, he said.“Look, that’s impossible. Nichole wouldn’t degrade herself like that.” he said again, but his expression obviously betrayed him.
“Oh! degrade YOU, you mean?” Mira tilted her head, biting her lips and expecting an outburst from him. “Or are you pretending it doesn't affect you?”
Raymond clenched his fists.
Mira smiled faintly with a cruel, satisfying smirk knowing fully well she had hit the soft spot.
She stepped closer, bending slightly and her perfume drifting over his nostrils, she said.
“Listen Raymond, I’m going to give you this warning,” her voice stern. “If Nichole tries this again, if she ever steps into my path with my man. I will make sure I finish what the truck failed to do permanently.”
Raymond rose abruptly. “Don’t threaten her. She is NOT your problem.”
“Oh, she already is,” Mira said, twisting her neck in a bragging way. “And let me tell you, once people find out she was playing house with another man while still legally bound to you by fresh paperwork, she’ll be your problem too.”
Raymond's nostrils flared in anger.
Before he could speak another word. Mira rose up, picked her berkin bags and walked towards the door, pausing just long enough to twist the knife deeper, she turned.
“Raymond, You told me she didn’t matter to you anymore,” Mira added casually. “But the expression on your face tells me she still does.”
Raymond stood rigid, his hands braced on the desk, breathing hard through his nose as she left without dismissal. The door clicked shut behind her as silence swallowed the office. Raymond has never felt this type of humiliation, the insult, the idea of Nichole with someone else, it made his ego burn.
Nichole….His Nichole.
Despite everything, the thought of another man touching her, ignited something savage in his chest. He shouldn't be thinking about this, yet,he didn't understand why. Beneath his fury lay a truth he dared not admit: a flicker of the old warmth he believed was long dead, a craving he resented and the love he killed but never truly mourned, suddenly found their way creeping back.
“Fuuuckkk! Never! Not under my watch Nichole. I hate you but I can't watch another man take you”. He swore.
He crushed the folder in his fist, shoving it aside and snapping one hand on his head.
Raymond kept battling with his fury, but he couldn’t shake the bitter truth Mira had unintentionally revealed. He wasn’t only fighting his pride, he was fighting something he had sworn he no longer felt.
A past love refusing to die and masking itself as revenge.
If Nichole was alive…If she was being reckless…If she thought she could shame him and get away with it. Then he would surely deal with her, punish, bend and erase her completely.
NICHOLE’S POVThe strange red note on our table said someone was watching us inside our own house, and my legs became weak as I stepped away from the wooden table.I held my breath while my mind raced with fast thoughts, and I grabbed Xavier’s hand tightly because I knew we were in danger again.Xavier moved quickly to lock all the heavy doors in the hallway, pulling out his phone to call our private security chief to surround the whole compound."We cannot stay in this house without extra men guarding the gates," Xavier said, setting his phone down on the counter while his eyes showed so much worry. "We must arrange a small private wedding where nobody can reach us."I looked at him and nodded my head without hesitation, knowing that our safety was more important than any big celebration with crowds."I agree with you, Xavier," I said, making my voice firm so he would know I was completely ready for this decision. "We will invite only our true friends, and we will hire armed guards t
NICHOLE’S POVThe news reader on the radio said Mira had fled the country on a fake passport before the police could reach her house, and my hand shook as I turned off the dial.I sat back on the sofa in our quiet living room, holding my breath while the heavy truth settled deep inside my heart. The radio presenter said all Mira’s bank accounts were frozen permanently, and her family name was completely ruined in the eyes of the public.I knew that she was running away like a disgraced thief, but my mind wondered if she would ever stop plotting against us from afar.Xavier walked into the living room, carrying two white mugs of tea in his hands as he looked at me.He set the mugs down on the small wooden table, sitting down right beside me on the soft cushions."Mira is gone for good, Nichole," Xavier said softly, taking my fingers into his palms and rubbing them gently. "Her wealth is gone, her family name is ruined, and she will never step foot in this city again without facing a lo
MADAM HEMILIGHTON’S POVThe doctor told me that my two kidneys had failed completely, and my body trembled on the cold hospital bed as I looked up at the bright ceiling lights.I knew in my heart that I was running out of time, but I refused to close my eyes until I saw my only son one last time. The sharp pain in my chest was very strong, but the shame inside my heart was far worse than any physical sickness.I spent my whole life chasing money, high power, and family pride, and I thought that keeping our big name clean was the most important thing in this world.I fought against Xavier’s happiness for years because I wanted him to marry a rich girl from a big house, and I treated Nichole like she was nothing.I listened to wicked people like Beatrice and Raymond because they spoke smooth words to feed my pride, and now those same people were sitting in prison while I lay dying alone on a hospital bed.I turned my head slowly toward the door when I heard fast footsteps in the corrido
NICHOLE’S POVThe man standing in my kitchen had a long knife raised in the air, but before he could strike, three police officers rushed through the back door and pinned him down to the floor. My body trembled as I dropped to my knees beside Xavier, checking his bleeding arm while the officers dragged the strange attacker away into their vehicle outside."I am fine," Xavier whispered, holding my hand tightly while I helped him wrap a clean cloth around his cut arm.I looked into his eyes and made up my mind right there that I would follow this case to the very end so that everyone who tried to hurt us would end up in jail. The next morning, we walked into the central police station because the station commander had called us to sign the final papers for the criminal cases. The commander looked at me across his wooden table, his face serious as he held up a fresh stack of legal papers."Raymond’s company has officially gone bankrupt today, and every single asset he owns has been seize
NICHOLE’S POVThe message on my phone screen said someone was standing outside with a gun, and my legs became weak as I stepped back from the window. I did not run or scream because I knew I had to stay calm to keep myself alive in this dark room.To my greatest surprise, the heavy glass window did not break, but the back door of the house burst open, and Raymond walked inside the room with dirty clothes and wild eyes. He was not holding a gun, but he held a big iron rod in his right hand, his breathing was heavy as he looked at me."You have to come with me right now, Nichole," Raymond said, walking toward me while his hand shook on the metal rod. "We can leave this city together today, and you can help me build my company again."I stood my ground and did not move a single inch away from him. "I am not going anywhere with you, Raymond," I said, making my voice firm and clear so he would know I was no longer afraid of his anger."You used to love me!" Raymond shouted, stepping close
NICHOLE’S POVThe television screen on the wall showed Mira’s face, and my hands trembled as I listened to her tell a complete lie to the whole world. She was sitting inside a bright news room, wearing a plain white dress and wiping small tears from her eyes like an innocent child. I stood in front of the screen with a cold feeling in my body because I knew that if I did not act right now, people would believe her clever stories and let her walk free again."Beatrice tricked me and used my good name to do bad things," Mira said on the television screen, holding a small tissue paper in her hand. "I did not know anything about the attack on Nichole at the old warehouse, and I am very sorry for all the pain she suffered."As anger boiled through my heart, I pressed the red button on my remote control to turn off the television set, and the room became very quiet. My heart was beating fast inside my chest as I walked over to my wooden desk. I pulled out my laptop computer and set it on
