‘Ma please you can't go in” The secretary dragged.

Raymond didn’t look up when the office door swung open. He remained busy at his annoying files that have kept him rigid since morning, his expression clearly looks pissed off by network issues from his system.

He was still necked deep into his work when a young lady walked in.

Her heels clicking distinctly against the marble floor, with her navy blue blazer exuding all poise and sophistication. Her hair tied up in a sleeked bun, her nude lipstick matching her make-up. Each step she made was more like an assertion that makes her impossible to be ignored. She shut the door softly behind her, ignoring the secretary’s feeble attempt to stop her from barging in.

“Hello, Mr Raymond”.

Raymond lifted his gaze. A flash of annoyance crossed his face, curious of what a strange lady with such boldness would be looking for in his office.  “Who are you please?” he asked curiously.

Resting her laps in front of his desk, unbothered and unbiased, never minding the professional disdain, she responded. “I am Mira, a daughter to Mayor Eves.  I am the betrothed wife to a man your wife swore not to leave”.

“Excuse me, My wife? What are you talking about?”

“Oh please spare me those crap Mr Raymond. Why pretend as if you don't know what I'm talking about?”

“What?” Raymond asked curiously.

“Take a look at this”. She flipped a file dismissively towards him with a flick of her hand and the other one resting lightly on her chin radiating just dominance.

“Maybe this will explain better before the media does.” She said tilting her head and studying him with the confidence of someone who already knew the outcome. Raymond’s eyes narrowed widely at the file wondering the hidden danger inside it.

Immediately he opened the folder…. He was shocked at what he saw. A printed hospital form with his estranged wife’s name written boldly on it…NICOLE VANCE. Stating clearly of her accident the previous day with Xavier.

“What is Nichole doing with another man?” He thought.

Raymond’s heart immediately kicked hard against his ribs, driven by emotions he couldn’t explain.

“Young Lady, Where did you get this?” he asked angrily.

“Does it matter?” Mira replied coldly. “Your ex-wife has been busy.”

He looked up sharply. “You watch your tone.”

“No, Raymond,” Mira said, leaning forward on his desk, as she spoke. “You’re the one who needs to watch her.”

He slammed the folder shut at her face, waving out the thoughts battling in his head. “Spare me all these, Nichole can't do such a thing.” He snapped.

“Oh why are you suddenly trusting her now? You think she wouldn't .” Mira cuts in. “She had a one-night stand with my boyfriend, and now, conveniently ends up in his car, in a disguise of being crushed under a truck which is making waves in all blogs right now.”You think this is a joke? Don’t act like it doesn’t look suspicious.”

Raymond stared at her, stunned and speechless at her words. The idea of Nichole moving on so quickly with another man is still unbelievable .

Trying to yank it off again, he said.“Look, that’s impossible. Nichole wouldn’t degrade herself like that.” he said again, but his expression obviously betrayed him.

“Oh! degrade YOU, you mean?” Mira tilted her head, biting her lips and expecting an outburst from him. “Or are you pretending it doesn't affect you?”

Raymond clenched his fists.

Mira smiled faintly with a cruel, satisfying smirk knowing fully well she had hit the soft spot.

She stepped closer, bending slightly and her perfume drifting over his nostrils, she said.

“Listen Raymond, I’m going to give you this warning,” her voice stern. “If Nichole tries this again, if she ever steps into my path with my man. I will make sure I finish what the truck failed to do permanently.”

Raymond rose abruptly. “Don’t threaten her. She is NOT your problem.”

“Oh, she already is,” Mira said, twisting her neck in a bragging way. “And let me tell you, once people find out she was playing house with another man while still legally bound to you by fresh paperwork, she’ll be your problem too.”

Raymond's nostrils flared in anger.

Before he could speak another word. Mira rose up, picked her berkin bags and walked towards the door, pausing just long enough to twist the knife deeper, she turned.

“Raymond, You told me she didn’t matter to you anymore,” Mira added casually. “But the expression on your face tells me she still does.”

Raymond stood rigid, his hands braced on the desk, breathing hard through his nose as she left without dismissal. The door clicked shut behind her as silence swallowed the office. Raymond has never felt this type of humiliation, the insult, the idea of Nichole with someone else, it made his ego burn.

Nichole….His Nichole.

Despite everything, the thought of another man touching her, ignited something savage in his chest. He shouldn't be thinking about this, yet,he didn't understand why. Beneath his fury lay a truth he dared not admit: a flicker of the old warmth he believed was long dead, a craving he resented and the love he killed but never truly mourned, suddenly found their way creeping back.

“Fuuuckkk! Never! Not under my watch Nichole. I hate you but I can't watch another man take you”. He swore.

He crushed the folder in his fist, shoving it aside and snapping one hand on his head.

Raymond kept battling with his fury, but he couldn’t shake the bitter truth Mira had unintentionally revealed. He wasn’t only fighting his pride, he was fighting something he had sworn he no longer felt.

A past love refusing to die and masking itself as revenge.

If Nichole was alive…If she was being reckless…If she thought she could shame him and get away with it. Then he would surely deal with her, punish, bend and erase her completely.

Pov: NicholeKael, the man with the scarred neck, ushered us down a flight of stairs made of cracked concrete. He claimed that his real name was Kael rather than Victor and that he had used a fake name at the docks as a test. We descended into a heavily fortified steel bunker underground and the chamber was an environment leftover from the Cold War. One could smell damp earth and old electronics plus rows and rows of blinking green computer screens illuminating the dark room while showing complicated maps of the global banking networks.Without stopping, Kael took us to one of the terminals and with his thick fingers, he struck the keys as graphs and code quickly ran down the monitors."Silas isn't looking for a street fight anymore, " Kael stated with a tone of concern. "He plans to pull the plug on the entire global economy because he has spent three years creating a digital virus inside the world's most secure financial networks."As I felt Lily's little hand turning my collar bone

The old warehouse was freezing and the air inside smelled like wet iron, rotting wood, and old oil. My flashlight beam cut a small yellow circle through the heavy dust, but the darkness seemed to swallow the light as I kept my left hand tight on the strap of the baby carrier against my chest. Lily was asleep, and her small face pressed into my jacket, but her tiny breaths felt too fast.Xavier moved one step ahead of me with his gun up and his eyes darting toward the iron rafters above us. Every sound, the drip of water from a broken pipe, the scrape of a rat across concrete, all of them, made my heart leap into my throat."We are too deep inside," I whispered as my voice sounded tiny in the massive space. "Xavier, we need to turn back, the laptop isn't here.""Two more minutes, Nichole," he muttered with his jaw locked tight. "Marcus said the old junction box was near the back wall and if the server is drawing power, it will be there."We rounded a corner made of stacked, rust

Pov: Elizabeth After that night. The television in the safehouse was still on, but I turned the volume all the way down as the pictures of my face kept flashing, but I ignored them and sat at the small wooden desk in the corner of the bedroom. My eyes burned from staring at the bright screen of a stolen tablet.Silas thought he was the only one who could play this game. He thought his dossier was perfect, but I knew about stories. When a story is too perfect, it is usually a lie.I opened the digital news archives from fifteen years ago and the Vance corporate records that Thorne had downloaded for us. For three hours, I did not move as I compared the dates on the fire reports with the dates on the bank transfers."You need to blink, Nichole," Elena said as she stood in the doorway, leaning her shoulder against the wood as she held two plastic cups of black coffee."Look at this, Elena," I said as I pointed my finger at two columns of numbers on the screen. "Silas says my husband aut

  • My Ex-husband Billion Dollar Mistakes     Chapter 108-The Media Storm

Pov: Xavier The television screen in the safehouse kitchen flashed with red text. THE VANCE FAMILY COLD CASE A woman in a blue suit spoke fast into a microphone and behind her, was a large digital picture of my face filling the screen. Next to my picture was a scanned document from fifteen years ago.I stood by the window and kept the curtains pulled tight as the light from the screen hit the opposite wall in steady pulses. Every major news channel played the same story and not even to think of it, social media was worse. Millions of people were typing my name, calling me a murderer and a thief. Silas had done his job perfectly and then the news anchor changed the slide. Nichole’s face also appeared on the screen as the reporter called her a gold-digger. They said she helped me hide the family secrets to protect her new wealth.I looked over at Nichole as she sat on the small sofa in the corner and her knees pulled up to her chest as she stared at the TV with utmost shock. Pov: XavierI watched the blue light of the laptop screen reflect in Nichole’s wide eyes. The black headlines scrolled down, over and over again and they buried my name under a mountain of lies. Silas was good at this, he always had been and he did not just use bullets this time. He used the truth like a knife, cutting away my cover until I stood bleeding in the open air.For over fifteen years, I carried the weight of my silence like a heavy stone in my stomach every single day. I thought my father’s death had paid the debt. I thought building this company, protecting Nichole, and keeping Lily safe could wash the blood off my hands. But, it was a lie I told myself in the dark. Silas was alive, and my bad choices were finally catching up to me. He was stripping away my company, my reputation, and my safety. He wanted me weak and completely alone before he put a bullet in my chest."Xavier," Nichole whispered. She did not look at me as her fingers hovered over the keyboard as they sh

Pov: Nichole"Nicely done, Nichole. You are really pretty, " Elena told me as she fixed the strap of my black silk evening dress. "But your shoulders are way too stiff. Please loosen them. The vultures will be able to smell your sweat.""I am doing my best, " I explained.I was moving from the corridor into the large ballroom of the Vance mansion. The big crystal chandeliers were nearly touching the floor and there was a very strong and harsh lighting on the three hundred high class members of the city with diamonds on necklaces sparkling under the bulbs. The room filled with the sound of clinking champagne glasses and low polite laughter. It was like a trap decorated with gold leaf. I was holding my head so that it would be parallel to the floor made of marble. I could feel the eyes of the crowd moving towards me, they were watching my every step. They knew about the park ambush. The news had been suppressed, but these people traded in secrets. They were waiting to see if I would br
