His calm exterior melted into action. “Stay calm. Breathe. I’m taking you to the hospital right now.”Grace shook her head weakly. “It’s… it’s late. I don’t want to bother anyone.”Johnny grabbed his coat and gently supported her as she stood. “Bother anyone? Grace, this isn’t about anyone else. This is about you and the baby. Come on.”Within minutes, they were in Johnny’s car, the engine roaring to life. Grace’s face was pale, her grip tightening around Johnny’s arm.The Call to AnitaAs he drove, Johnny

Grace stared at herself in the mirror one last time. Her dress was soft and flowing, cinched at the waist to hide as much of her baby bump as possible. Yet, even with the loose fabric, she knew it would still be noticeable. She tried to smooth the skirt and tugged at her hair nervously. Her reflection looked back at her with wide, uncertain eyes.“I just… don’t want to embarrass him,” she whispered to herself. Her fingers hovered over her stomach. “He’s done so much for me already… and now this…”The thought of showing Johnny her growing bump made her cheeks burn. Would he see it as a reminder of her complicated situation? Or worse… would it make him think less of her?Johnny appeared in the doorway, dressed simply but neatly, with a slight smile on his face.“You ready?” he asked, his voice calm and reassuring.Grace swallowed, trying to steady her voice. “I… I think so.”Johnny stepped closer. “You look beautiful, Grace. Really.”Her cheeks warmed at the compliment. “I just… I don’t

For a long moment after the kiss, neither Johnny nor Grace moved. The house was quiet.Too quiet.Grace could still feel the warmth of Johnny’s lips lingering on hers, and her heart was beating so loudly she wondered if he could hear it.Johnny slowly stepped back first. Not because he wanted to.But because he knew if he didn’t, they might not stop.He ran a hand through his hair and gave a small breathless laugh.“Well… that happened.”Grace felt her cheeks warm. She lowered her gaze, suddenly shy.“Yes,” she said softly.Johnny studied her face carefully.“You’re not panicking.”Grace looked up again.“Should I be?”Johnny shrugged lightly.“Most people would probably be freaking out right now.”Grace thought about it for a moment.Strangely, she didn’t feel panic. She felt calm.Relieved even.“I think,” she said slowly, “I’ve been waiting for that longer than I realized.”Johnny’s eyebrows lifted slightly.“That honest, huh?”Grace smiled faintly.“I told you yesterday that thing

Morning light slowly crept through the curtains of the living room. The soft golden rays stretched across the floor, climbing slowly onto the couch where Grace was sleeping. She stirred slightly. For a moment she didn’t remember where she was. Then she felt the warmth beside her.Grace’s eyes opened slowly. Her head was resting on something firm. She blinked.Johnny.Her head was resting against Johnny’s shoulder.Grace froze.Memories of the night before rushed back instantly. The conversation. The tension. The confession that they both felt something. Her heart began racing.Johnny was still asleep, leaning back against the couch, his head tilted slightly to the side.Grace carefully lifted her head, trying not to wake him.But Johnny stirred anyway. His eyes opened slowly. For a brief second neither of them spoke. Then Johnny looked down at her.“Morning.”Grace quickly sat up, brushing her hair behind her ear.“Morning.”There was a moment of awkward silence.Johnny stretched slig

The silence in the living room stretched longer than either of them expected.Grace could hear her own heartbeat.Johnny was standing so close now that she could feel the warmth coming from him. The dim light from the lamp near the couch cast soft shadows across his face, making his expression harder to read. His hand had just brushed her hair aside. It was such a small gesture. But it felt like everything had changed.Grace swallowed.Neither of them moved.Neither of them spoke.Outside, a car passed slowly along the street, its headlights briefly illuminating the room before disappearing again into the night.Grace finally found her voice.“Johnny…”Her voice came out softer than she intended.Johnny’s eyes stayed locked on hers.“Yeah?”Grace hesitated. For the past few weeks she had tried to ignore the growing feelings inside her. She had told herself that it was only gratitude. That Johnny was simply someone who had helped her when no one else would. But tonight—after the trip,

Anita drove faster than she normally would. The anger in her chest refused to settle, and the image of Grace standing inside Johnny’s house replayed over and over in her mind. The way Johnny had stood there so calmly. The way Grace had said no without hesitation. Her grip tightened around the steering wheel.“How did things get this messy?” she muttered to herself. The city lights blurred past as she turned into the quiet neighborhood where Jackson lived. Normally, coming here helped calm her down. Jackson had always been the stable one in her life—predictable, supportive, patient.Tonight she wasn’t sure how patient he would be.She parked outside his house and sat there for a moment, staring at the steering wheel. Then she sighed and stepped out of the car.Jackson NoticesJackson opened the door before she even knocked. He had clearly been expecting her.“You’re late,” he said, stepping aside so she could enter.Anita walked in without answering.Jackson closed the door behind her
