My Hunter Girl

The sun has risen and it is a beautiful day to go to college. I did all my morning routine and I was ready to be on my way to school. I got down from the stairs and I saw my dad drinking his regular coffee.

“ Dad, good morning. How was your night" 

" My night was awesome. I can see you are set for school. Let me drop you at school, you know it's your first time here?”

I agreed and hugged him. 

The drive to school was smooth. We talked all through the road. I arrived at school and I kissed my dad on his cheek. I bid farewell to dad and I watched him as he drove. I walked towards the gate of ravenous Academy, I felt the pull of the moon even though it was hidden behind morning clouds. The air here was different, heavier, charged with something that made my skin prickle and heartbeat stumble. I walked past a towering pine trees surrounding round the school and I was admiring the surrounding 

“ Hey! new girl” someone called snapping me back to reality 

I turned around and I saw a beautiful,slender hoodie and glasses. She smiled at me, I smiled back shyly. 

“ You are not from around here,” she said. I nodded my head and she took my hand and walked me through the class 

“ Judging from your age we are classmates and you will be my seat partner. My name is Melissa Gold, I am sixteen years old and you.” She said very excited 

I looked at her and smiled

“ My name is Jessica Brown, am sixteen years also” immediately she heard my name she smiled and said

“ We are going to be best of friends” We reach the class and Melissa pulled me to seat next to her then the lecturer walked in 

After a long lecture, we finally came to the end of the lecture. I and Melissa went to the cafeteria to eat and she started telling tales about werewolves. I have never believed that werewolves exist. I have no choice but to listen to her tales. 

She talked about werewolves being a ruthless creature especially their Alphas. She talked about mates and that is what I liked about her story. I used to wonder how a ruthless and powerful alpha would be so lovely to their mate. She always tells me that finding their mate is more than us humans finding our soulmate. They will love and cherish each other. 

We chatted for a long time until then a lecturer entered the cafeteria and walked towards me. 

“ Jessica I have been looking for you all around the school. We just got a call from your home that you need to come quickly” 

" Mrs Elle, hope no problem ma? There is no one at home because my dad just dropped me at school and told me he is going to work.” I said in a worried tone.

“ They didn't tell me what happened. What I was told is that you need to come home”

“ Jess I will call you or I will come by after school, quickly get your things." Mel said urging me to pack my things 

I immediately left the cafeteria for my class and packed all my belongings and I headed home. 

I reached home and I saw dead bodies everywhere.

“ Dad?” I called softly. No answer.

My heart began to pound. I dropped my bag and stepped inside. The living room was in disarray, Then I saw my dad lying lifeless. At that moment I was short of breath, tears begin to drop from my eyes and I shouted 

“ No no no this can't be happening. Dad Dad, what is going on around here. Who did this? I was saying in between sobs. I was crying non stop and I didn't know what to do. Everything was like a dream that I wished someone would wake me from

Then I saw my uncle coming in and I rushed to me him in tears

“ I heard what happened? He hugged me. 

“ Uncle Gary, My dad is gone.” I cried to his arms and he patted me. He tried to calm me down 

“ Uncle do you know what is going on” I asked when I was calm a little 

“ My daughter, I don't know how to explain to you. Your dad was murder by werewolves” Uncle gary said in sad mood 

I wiped my face and stopped crying to understand what my uncle was saying. 

" Uncle, this is not funny. Werewolves don't exist. So how will they kill my father and even if they exist. What business does my father and werewolves have in common”.

“ You are from the generation of Hunter's." I looked at him astonished. A lot was going through my mind 

“ This is the first time I am hearing of Hunter and now you are telling me I am from the generation of Hunter's. Please can you elaborate?” Still confused about what he is saying because my dad has never discussed this with me before he died.  

“ I told your dad to discuss it with you but he always tells me it isn't time for you to know. Now he is gone you have to know your lineage. Like I said you are from the generation of hunters. Your lineage has always been the leaders of the Hunter's. Now your dad is dead, you are to take over from him. The mantle has been passed to you. Hunters are the ones who hunt werewolves.” 

I sobbed as tears trickled down my eyes. I couldn't hold it 

I looked at my uncle angrily 

“ I must take revenge and kill those who did this to my father. What pack are werewolves" 

My uncle came to pat me on my shoulder 

“Ravenous pack and You can’t fight monsters with grief,” he told me. 

“Only with purpose.”

A thought came to my mind, why is my uncle not harmed by werewolves? I had to ask him 

“ Uncle, how come you weren't harmed by them?” I asked 

I saw fear and guilt in eyes but I waved it away 

“ I wasn't in town, I also received a call of what happened and I had to rush down here.” 

I looked at him to be sure he is telling the truth 

“ Are you doubting me?” 

“ No, I am not, but thank God you are alive to guide me in taking my revenge.” I hugged him to reassure him that am not doubting him 

I left to my bedroom 

I carried my father’s silver dagger and a heart that no longer knew peace

And so began my hunt for revenge
