Chapter 1

Author: Inky Tea
I fell to my knees in tears as I signed the papers and begged him to spare my family.

But the next second, my parents were still hurled from the top of the drop tower ride.

“No!” I screamed.

When I woke up, I was back on the day Harry Forger had handed me the divorce papers.

This time, I slammed both the divorce papers and my resignation letter on his desk.

“As you wish.”

Harry snorted as soon as I said that.

“Anna Wesley, I asked for a divorce, and you hand me a resignation letter? Do you think quitting will make me feel sorry for you and that I’ll back down?”

He picked up a pen, signed his name on the divorce papers, and tossed them in front of me.

“I gave you a chance. You just didn’t appreciate it. Since you want to be a menace, don’t blame me for being ruthless.”

After signing the divorce papers, he didn’t even spare me a glance before walking away.

I watched him leave and suddenly recalled how our company had been established five years ago.

At those endless business dinners, I was the one who drank for him because he was allergic to alcohol. I had ended up being hospitalized with stomach bleeding.

As his wife, I never slacked off for a single day. For three years, I gave everything I had and pushed the company to go public.

At the celebration party, he held me and cried.

“Anna, I was born unable to have children. I can never give you a child, yet you still married me and fought beside me through thick and thin.

“I swear on my life that I will never forsake you!"

In the previous lifetime, that promise had kept me shackled for decades.

I truly believed that because I loved him and had shared his hardships, we’d grow old together.

Even when I found out about his affair and that he had gotten another woman pregnant, I still foolishly thought he would come back to me.

It wasn’t until he threw me in prison and caused my parents’ deaths over that college girl that I finally came to my senses.

Even lovers who met at a young age could see their relationship deteriorate this badly.

True love was never eternal.

I smoothed the creases on my resignation letter. My gaze remained calm.

This time, I wouldn’t repeat my mistakes.

If he behaved heartlessly, I would show no mercy.

I called my parents.

“Mom, Dad, I have a new business venture in Demarcia. Could you go there and help oversee things for me? I’ll join you in two weeks once I’ve sorted out everything here.”

They didn’t ask any questions. After hanging up, I handed the divorce papers to my lawyer.

I then returned to the office to pack my things.

When I opened the door, I found a young woman, who seemed five months pregnant, sitting in my chair.

“Ms. Wesley.” My secretary, Linda, came in after me with tears in her eyes as she called out softly.

“Mr. Forger gave the order this morning. Ms. Yates is to take over your position, but she hasn’t even graduated from college! On top of that–”

Harry looked up abruptly. There was surprise and fear in his eyes.“They died from heart attacks.”I traced the faint mark on my ring finger. “And now you say you’re sorry?”There were camera flashes all around.Everyone saw the new CEO of Hansen Group lean down and speak to the kneeling man. The once dominant figure in the business world curled up like a frightened child.“That's impossible,” Harry muttered while shaking his head profusely. “How could I do something like that?!”I ignored him and turned toward the cheering crowd. I could hear his desperate screams from behind me. "Anna! Please look at me!"I didn’t stop. The champagne tower at Hansen Group’s gala lit up Malroy City's skyline. Just then, an assistant rushed over. “Mr. Forger has cut his wrist in the parking lot!”The stem of the wine glass cracked in my hand, and blood dripped down my fingers. It felt eerily warm and reminded me of the moment my parents had fallen from the drop tower ride in my previous lifeti

Harry hung up the phone and stared out the window into the night. He looked almost crazy.“Anna,” he murmured. “I’ll find you no matter what.”Suddenly, his phone buzzed. It was a message from the private investigator.[Ms. Wesley will attend Hansen Group’s opening ceremony tomorrow. Harry bent forward and picked up Claire’s phone. The screen still showed 'Call in Progress'.Claire suddenly grabbed a vase and hurled it at him. “Go to hell! If you weren’t rich, I’d never have wasted my time pretending to love you!”Harry tilted his head just in time to dodge. The vase shattered against the wall and broke into shards. He grabbed Claire by the throat and slammed her against the floor-to-ceiling window. The wind howled outside and rattled the glass.“Whose baby is it?” he asked softly in her ear.Claire’s pupils contracted. “O-Of course it's yours!”Harry suddenly laughed and slapped her hard across the face.He then let go as she collapsed to the floor.“Still lying?”Claire spat in his face. “You piece of trash! If you weren’t rich, I wouldn’t have bothered going anywhere near you."You’re a worthless, infertile loser. How could you ever have a kid?“Your ex-wife actually carried your baby, didn’t she? And how did you treat her?”What a joke. He had destr

“Harry, you have no idea. Ms. Wesley’s team was nothing but useless trash!”Claire realized things were getting out of hand, but no matter how she tried to stop them, those college students kept badmouthing me and my entire team.Harry’s gaze grew colder by the second, and he tapped lightly on the desk. The sound sent chills down Claire's spine.“Are you done talking?” He suddenly asked. His voice was barely above a whisper, but it made the whole office fall dead silent, and the college students finally noticed the terrifying look in his eyes.“Security,” Harry said into the intercom. “Throw every one of them out. From this day on, none of them is allowed to set foot in Forger Tower.”“Harry!” Claire shrieked and tried to stop him. “They’re my friends! You can’t just fire them without paying their salaries!”He pushed her hand away. “Salaries? I should be asking them for damages.”He pointed at the graffiti-covered project proposals scattered across the floor. “Open your eyes,

"What?!"Harry suddenly recalled the calls from the HR Department over the past two days, and his face turned pale.“Harry!” Claire poked her head out of the consultation room. “The doctor said the baby misses you!”But Harry didn’t have time to respond as his phone rang again. The CFO’s panicked voice came through.“Mr. Forger! Ten of our core clients just terminated their contracts all at once! They said our projects are garbage, and that the people in charge are a bunch of college dropouts who don’t know what they’re doing and even doodled all over the project reports!“They said they can’t work with us anymore. The estimated penalty is 120 billion!”Harry’s phone slipped from his hand and hit the floor with a clack. He turned his head mechanically toward Claire, who was still smiling innocently.“What’s wrong, Harry?” she asked softly. “I’m starving. After the checkup, let’s go get some seafood, okay?”“Get out of my face!” Harry yelled. “This is all your fault!”He stor

A hard slap landed across my face.I stumbled back two steps, my cheek burning.“Anna.” Harry’s bloodshot eyes locked on me. “Apologize to Claire right now, and I’ll forget about the watch.”Claire hid behind him and flashed me a triumphant smile.I closed my eyes and cursed myself for still trying to explain anything to him.Why would he care if I was right or wrong?I ignored the sting on my cheek and inhaled deeply.“Harry, my lawyer said the divorce papers are finalized. I’ve returned your watch, too."From this day on, we’re done for good.”Without another word, I walked out into the rain.Behind me, a chair crashed to the floor.
