"Look, I understand you're married," he replied in the same low, calm baritone while we danced. "But burying your head in the sand does not change the facts. These things are out of our hands, you and I. We can't help what we feel, Keira. We should talk about it and try to resolve it." Resolve? Now he was being blatantly sex.ually suggestive? I was going to respond, but my mouth hung open as a gentle thumb brushed the flesh above my waist. That part of the dress had a small opening... **** On her thirteenth birthday, Kiera suffers an attack that leaves a lasting injury on her wolf and weakens her senses. When her father dies, as the only child, she succeeds him, becoming Luna of the Spring Moon pack despite her secret deformity. To earn the support of pack elders, her uncle arranges marriage with the most suitable candidate and her teenage crush, Liam Rudd. Her husband begins to reveal his true colors while pack elders insist she remains in an unhappy marriage. To worsen the crisis, Alpha Nox, a notorious ruthless lycan, comes into the picture. The lycan learns her secret and becomes determined to claim what is rightfully his, no matter the cost. Will Keira be able to protect her pack from ruin and keep her title? The hallway was pitch black. That was odd. How could they turn off all the lights on such a special day? It was my thirteenth birthday. I was the Alpha heir and my wolf has just awakened, waiting for its time to emerge. My sight was great, but as my wolf was still young, it wasn't matured enough to pierce the darkness. "Who's there?" I called. "Daddy, the lights are off!" But my dad wasn't nearby. He was in a meeting at the pack grand hall. My friends were all in the living room, dancing and squealing with delights at the clown's jokes. I was missing the fun. Why did I come out here again? Someone called my name. The voice sounded like Zoey Faust's, that was why I left my party. Zoey was a good friend of the family. She was from the line of the Beta's and married into a warrior's family. Her husband died long ago, leaving her with a daughter who was inside enjoying herself right now. "Mrs Faust?" I called out. No answer came. Daddy told me to be nice and respectful to her. As future Luna and leader of the Spring Moon pack, good manners were a must. Apart from that, after my mom died, Zoey was in and out of our house a lot. Daddy said she was very helpful. I was too little to remember how she helped. The sound of my cheerful friends had gone faint because I was too far from the living room now. I grew irritated, telling myself that strange things like these were the reasons I didn't like the woman. Not just the fact that I caught her sneaking into dad's bedroom twice. I turned to go back to my party when I felt movement. Before I could ask who was there, something hit me on the back of my neck with such force. It burned like scorching hot iron. The pain made me dizzy, causing me to lose balance. I reached out, trying to grab hold of something, but all I felt was empty space. Then came another push. I felt the force of someone's hands this time. Much bigger than me. I heard their grunt as they shoved me off the rails and sent me falling from the top floor, which was six storey high. I screamed and thrashed. Then someone caught me, but I kept screaming as they pulled me back to safety. Their voice was soothing at first, but soon grew impatient. "Wake up, Keira." They shook me roughly. I opened my eyes but kept thrashing and trying to grab hold of something. Someone was with me on the bed, holding both my arms and shaking me. "Wake up!" I began to relax once I realized I was awake. My vision was blurred by the sun's ray pouring into the bedroom. Shame crept in once I realized where I was. I was on my bed in the main pack house. No longer an heir, but a grown she-wolf and co-leader of the Spring Moon. Liam still had a grip on my arms. His tone became gentler when he spoke next. "It's me, your Alpha, your husband. It's alright." I was still panting as I looked all around me. Ten years had passed since that terrible incident that cursed my young wolf back to sleep. If the last two days were any indication, the nightmares had returned. Liam's grip softened on my shoulder. I knew without a doubt that I definitely screamed out loud. This made me too embarrassed to look at him. "It's just a bad dream," he said, smoothening my arm before releasing me. Yes. A recurring bad dream. One that stopped a year ago when he and I were arranged to wed. I thought it was gone for good. Apparently not. Thankfully, Liam was speaking and barely noticed my embarrassment. "I was going to let you sleep and rest well cos it's a big day for us." He stood up. "But you seem in distress, so I had to wake you up." The words big day got my attention. I looked at the time. It's past seven. "Are you kidding me, Liam," I began scrambling out of bed. "Our guests will start arriving at 8:30. You could've woken me up much sooner." He should have woken me up before the nightmare began. I briefly wondered what time he got home last night but pushed the thought aside. Irrelevant for now. There were more important things to deal with. It was our wedding anniversary. Not only that, all the packs on the Eastside were commemorating one year of peace. My pack would host alphas and dignitaries of the other three main packs. Well, two, because the Autumn Moon's Alpha may not show up. He was the bag egg of the Eastside. The only troublesome, evil one amongst us. At least, that was the rumor. I'd never met him. Today won't be a simple affair. The party was an opportunity to make friends and strengthen partnerships with others. I had been Luna of the Spring Moon pack for fifteen months right after my dad died. Being female, I needed these types if networking to show my people and counterparts that I had allies. That way, they would think twice before messing with my pack. Liam remained nonchalant as I rushed towards the bathroom "Relax, Luna." He swung a bathrobe over his shoulder. "Our people are taking care of everything. We just need to show up." I ignored him and went for a quick shower. What type of excuse or impression would I be making if I arrived late for my own renewal of vows? Pack members and visiting Alphas would surely talk. Already, some seem to find a reason to say things like, 'this is why females shouldn't rule a pack.' 'Oh, she's just pretending. Liam is Alpha.' I'd heard and felt the whispers and vibes from some many times. Not only that, hosting all those other Alphas and dignitaries was a great honor. It meant that the Spring Moon was a symbol of peace and unity on this Eastside. In ten minutes, I'd showered and sent for my stylist. Liam was also getting dressed now. As I waited for Saul, my stylist, I began to feel like something would go wrong today. It was a waning moon, so Aria, my wolf, was hybernating, as usual. So why had the nightmares returned? All these while, I'd lived quietly, doing my duties to the pack. Was that about to change? "Are you alright?" Liam asked. "You had a bad dream last night too." "Yeah, I'm alright," I nodded, forcing a smile. I stared his way and told myself to feel lucky that I married the most handsome guy in the pack. And he was loving too. Sometimes. "You're worrying too much about the anniversary. I think you're under a lot of stress." He came over and smoothed my back. A faint smell of some fruit wafted past my nostrils. That was not part of his scent. "Did you eat oranges or what?" His hand froze for a brief moment as he hesitated. Something flashed in his eyes that was unrecognizable. Then he nodded quickly with a short laugh. "Yeah. I went to the kitchen for a glass of water. Taylor was eating some, so I took one." I was about to ask what time he came home last night when a soft knock sounded. Saul was here. He had only twenty minutes to get me ready for our special day. "Come in," I called out. As he entered and began working, Liam returned to getting dressed too. I was not always comfortable with him being in the room when I dolled up. Before he became my mate and husband, he was my crush. Someone I fantasized about. Someone who made me laugh shyly when he's around. Now, we were a couple, running the pack together. I was thinking of old times and marvelling at how much had changed when he finished. He started to leave the room as he said, "I need a quick drink, love. Need to feel prepared. I'll be right back."Yara POVWhat I was forced to let him do? What the hell did he mean by that? The Beta's opinion of me had not changed. All of the investigations and evidence had not changed what he thought of me where Liam was concerned. "What's the matter?" He asked tenderly. "Yara?"I wondered why he seemed so stricken, then realized that I had backed away from him. Like yesterday in that cell, I almost got carried away again. That kiss was not supposed to happen. Neither did this closeness."I did not "let him" do anything, Beta. You already had me investigated. You've seen that he and I are nothing.""You were fated," he said carefully. "For three minutes. I would appreciate it if you stopped talking like he and I had something.""Okay," he nodded with a slight frown. It looked like he would come close. How I missed the warmth of standing close to him. Of having him brush my cheek tenderly. I had felt so safe in this male's arm all of those few times that he touched me, then he had hurt me. "I
Theo POVNox had found the Luna and taken her back to the pack. She was safe and receiving medical care now. The Winter elder who helped Liam was also paying his crimes. The male didn't know which way Liam went. Nox had tortured him by himself and confirmed this. His only role was to lure the Luna to his restaurant, then give them both privacy.Liam had been hiding in the Winter Moon, but out in the town among humans. We had been naively searching in the woods. He was missing again. Ramos and I had combed the entire town after I received the message from Nox. He had just left for the Summer Moon to check on the other male who got hurt. It was nightfall now, and I had to return to the Autumn Moon. What a day it had been. I had spent the better part chasing the fücking trash. I had caused his escape, and he'd hurt the Luna of the Spring and Autumn Moon.If only I could kick myself. Even though the prïck was still missing, I was part glad that the horrific day had come an end finally.T
Theo POV Ramos dove my way, tackling me as I fought back and threw him off me. "THIS IS ALL YOUR FAULT," he snarled. "He escaped BECAUSE OF YOU!" That confirmed it. He did see me. But why didn't he tell Nox? He charged at me with pure rage, ready to pick up the fight from where we left off before Liam vanished. I was ready, too. It was his fault that I had not yet repaid my grudge to that sonofvabïtch. After a few moments of scuffling, we both seem to realize that we were on the same side and released each other. "Liam owes me!" I growled. "You know who else he owes?" He barked in return. "Your Alpha. FIRST. In the concluded battle. Next is the Lycan King! His father. So get in the fücking line." I wanted to speak, but he cut me off. Not that I had any valid arguments to counter what he was saying. "What, in the name of the Fates, does he owe you? Yeah, he fücked a girl you wanted for yourself. How does that compare to attempted murder?" I bared my teeth. Because
Theo POVMy heart shot to my throat, preventing me from pouring out words in my defense. "Liam is missing," Nox went on. His next words momentarily threw me into deep confusion. "They were attacked by rogues, according to Ramos. He snuck off during the fight." Rogues? Conan heaved a deep sigh, then glanced at Riley, who stood beside. The two could hear the conversation. I held my breath, waiting for the Alpha to finish spilling how much he knew about the attack. I began to relax when he gave no indication that he knew I was responsible for the attack. "I'm not allowed to go out and join the search," he went on. "You know what I would do if I lay hold of that fücker. I need you to get in touch with Ramos. He's sure Liam is still within the east side. Get some guys, enter the woods, and go hunting. I have a call coming in. I'll call you back." He hung up before I could say anything. Conan and Riley were staring at me as if waiting for my orders. Only two thoughts jumped around i
Theo POV"Are you hurt?"She was staring from my left shoulder down that arm. The biggest injury from the fight. It had healed now, but the bruise was still evident of the wound I suffered. I shook my head, "It's nothing. I'm fine.""Did something happen?" "No, I just went for a run. I got into a little fight. It was nothing serious. The other guys have bruises, too. Don't worry.""Guys?" She asked with a frown."I came to see you. Mario just informed me that they found nothing in your room or office. There's no evidence of your involvement in his latest crime."She breathed a deep sigh of relief. "You'll be out of here after I talk to the Alpha and Riley."A soft, half smile graced her features. Her eyes seemed to brighten the dim cell room. Then it was gone. Her features grew serious again."I guess I shouldn't celebrate yet," she lowered her gaze shyly.I'd rushed down here, straight from the woods to do say exactly? Thank the Fates for Mario, who provided me with this little de
Theo POVIf anybody laid eyes on me now, they would not be staring at a random rogue, looking for trouble in the woods. They would be staring at Theo Hart, Beta of the Autumn Moon.I rubbed my face and neck frantically. Like that would bring back the dead wolf furs that masked my appearance before. How long had my face been bare like this? The masks must have fallen off during the fight. Shıt! Ramos saw me. So did the other guy. I lost interest in my tracking mission. No point in going further. The whole thing was a blatant failure. Liam had gotten away, and his escorts saw my face. Damn it! This could get problematic. For Nox, especially. His father would surely think he sent me. I raced back to the point of the ambush, expecting to meet Conan on the way. Or at least he would be sticking around the wounded warrior. There was no sign of the two where I left them. I was about to scream his name like idıot, but quickly caught myself. I looked all around me, checking for his paw prin
