2. Alpha

The man was watching the leaves fall from the branches of the tree. It's now autumn. There are tens of thousands or even hundreds of thousands of leaves of different colors on the streets.

His dark blue eyes moved in the same direction as the leaves that were being blown away by the wind.

Occasionally, he let out a breath. He stood in the backyard of his workspace for almost thirty minutes. His life is boring and lonely.

He glanced at the watch wrapped around his hand. Once again, he exhaled. Then dragged his feet into his workspace. He had a lot of work to finish soon.

Just as he opened the door, he saw an apparition that always made him better off dead right now. His heart had been tormented for hundreds of years. How much longer will he suffer like this?!

"Alpha." The man and woman were shocked. Their Alpha has caught them off guard

The man called Alpha glared sharply; he still faithfully stood at the door.

"Sorry, Alpha." The man who had been caught red-handed scratched his head and didn't itch. The woman who had been with him had left the Alpha's workroom.

The blue-eyed man walked over, still maintaining his sharp gaze and angry face. Because he was furious, he was standing right in front of the man who was looking down.

"Habit! I know you're mocking me." His Alpha tone voice sounded booming, but it didn't make the man in front of him feel scared; instead, he grinned widely

"I'm not mocking you. I can't help it. Trust me, Alpha, if you've found your mate. You'll be like me too."

The blue-eyed man who was the Alpha of the Redwood Pack stared at him intently as if his gaze could kill anyone in front of him.

The Redwood Pack is the oldest pack and the first werewolf descendant. In this pack, the gathering place for a werewolf who is famous for his strength can easily separate the head from the body of anyone, especially their enemies.

"If you weren't Beta. I killed you a long time ago." Orlan was furious. The Alpha is famous for being cold-hearted. Nothing has been able to melt the polar ice in his heart, apart from his parents and sister.

Orlan is sitting on the sofa. He immediately found a piece of paper that intrigued him to read it.

Dafa smiled wryly. He didn't mean to, because he hadn't seen his mate in a long time. That's why he kisses his mate right here in his Alpha workspace.

"What's this?"

Dafa was surprised to hear that his Alpha voice was still angry.  Almost burst his eardrums. His Alpha face looked confused with a furrowed brow while holding the paper he had brought and placed on the table. Dafa sat across from Orlan.

"That's the prophecy paper I got from Alpha Revazio," Daphne explained. "Look at Alpha, I am more and more sure if your name is written in the prophecy," said Dafa with seriousness. He always talked about the witches' prophecy in 1150. Dafa even wandered here and there just to get the prophecy paper. He was almost expelled from the pack because he often neglected his duties as a Beta.

"Why do you still believe what they say?" Orlan emphasized every word. He was tired of hearing everything Dafa said about divination.

Dafa is very interested in the world of magic. In contrast, Orlan did not believe it at all. Witches have betrayed the werewolf klan, especially the Redwood Pack; why believe in those nonsense prophecies that happened hundreds of years ago? Even when the prophecy was announced, he had not been born. In 1150 the werewolf and vampire clans did not know the witches' clan.

"I can't believe it, but her features are exactly like you, Alpha." Dafa is getting excited.

"The two of them haven't met in hundreds of years. During that time, the two will never feel love and affection." Dafa read the contents of the divination paper she got from the Chugach Pack.

Orlan was silent. Same, it seems. If so, does that mean his mate is a vampire?

"Well, don't talk about it!"  Orlan is fed up.

"Why did the Chugach Pack get this divination paper? Strange. Tongass Pack, and we didn't."  Dafa went back to talking about prophecy.  He paid no heed to his Alpha's deadly gaze fixed on him.  He still sticks to his stance if his Alpha's name is written in the prophecy.

Orlan rolled his eyes. His beta wasn't afraid of him. A brash creature who likes to mock his Alpha. "Because when the war broke out. We were so focused on fighting the vampire clan that we forgot our original goal."

"That's right. At that time, our concentration was all divided because the vampire clan attacked the elders." Dafa agreed. It remembered the events of the second war that occurred hundreds of years ago.

"Orlan, I believe. Your name is written on the prophecy. Come on, let's make a bet!" Jay exclaimed in Orlan's mind. Every werewolf can communicate with the wolves that are in his body.

"Noisy!" Orlan was too lazy to respond to his very noisy wolf, especially when it came to a mate they had never found. Jay is intrigued by this prophecy talk. He thought maybe the prophecy had happened to him and Orlan. Contrary to Orlan, who doesn't believe in the prophecy.

"Moon Goddess. Orlan, I could die if I don't meet my mate soon." Jay spoke again.

"Not only you, me too!" shouted Orlan furiously. He broke his mind link with Jay, lazy to listen to Jay. Makes his head dizzy.

The room became very quiet. Until the sound of the wind blowing can be heard clearly in the senses of hearing. Orlan dan Dafa was lost in their thoughts.

Orlan was dizzy when he heard the words that came out of his wolf's muzzle, who always told him to look for their mate. Because this year, he is already 449 years old, and during that time, he has not found his mate. He didn't know how long he could last without a mate. Moreover, he is an Alpha which, of course, requires the presence of a mate.

"Alpha, what about the problem the werewolf found dead in the forest?" asked Dafa as he picked up the pile of files on the table. He changed the subject; his Alpha was always angry when he talked about prophecy.

Orlan glanced lazily at Dafa. His beta is very chatty, every day just asking about it. Orlan wanted to cover Dafa's mouth. The problem is that Dafa only asks questions but doesn't provide any solutions or suggestions.

"I bought duct tape just now." Orlan took a quick look at the five pieces of duct tape that were still in the plastic wrap.

Dafa gave a big grin. He finally chose to be quiet and stop asking the question. He knew what the Alpha meant very well.

Dafa opened a folder that said, "A file about a werewolf's death that was found in the forest."

The room was quiet again after a few minutes. Dafa quickly looked at his Alpha, who was typing away on his laptop.

Orlan took out his cell phone, which had been ringing for a while, from his pants pocket. The name Arva was shown on the screen. "Hello?" Orlan answered his sister's phone call.

"Big brother, you didn't forget, did you? You promised."

"What? What did you say? "asked Orlan. He forgot what he'd promised his sister.

Arva was the sound of annoyance. "Why did you forget? You told me you wanted to go to the park with me. You told me you had something to show me."

Orlan hit his forehead with his hand. Why did he forget? "Yeah, I remember. Now I'm going there. Has your cafe shut down?" Orlan quickly looked at the watch on his left hand and saw it was half past five in the afternoon.

"Not yet; we close at seven p.m. Maybe it will be closed by the time you get here."

"Alright, I'll go there." Orlan hung up.

"Alpha, where are you going?" Daphne asked. He knew that it must have been Arva who called. Yes, to whom else did the Alpha talk so long and softly? Just his parents and his sister. Even Orlan didn't always pick up the phone when he called.

Orlan got up from his seat. He got his keys to his car from the desk. Dafa frowned. Orlan turned to his Beta as he was about to open the door. Dafa raised an eyebrow. "Do you know where Arva's cafe is?"

Dafa nodded. "I go there often, of course. Don't you occasionally ask me to drop off and pick up Arva?"

Orlan slapped his forehead.  Why did he forget? It looks like he's getting senile. "Take me there. How much time does it take to get there?" He should have been at the pack at midnight.

"Most likely about two hours." Orlan threw Dafa the keys to the car, which Dafa caught immediately.

When Orlan opened the door, Devin was already there, standing in front of the door. It looked like Devin was about to knock on the door because his hands were in the air.

"Where are you going, Alpha?" asked Devin—Gamma Redwood Pack.

"There's business," Orlan answered. He saw Devin holding a yellow folder.

"This is Alpha, the picture," said Devin, handing Orlan a yellow folder.

"Just put it on the table." Orlan pointed toward his workspace. Devin nodded in understanding. Orlan started walking away, and Dafa followed behind him.
