LOGIN"So it's best you run and never look back.”
My home training and every restraint within me elapse. “ it was you?"
" I'm hurt you didn't recognize me," he spoke softly. His voice rang a dangerous note in my head, and between my legs.
" I understand it's the terms of the business," he glanced down at my boobs, lips tilted by the side. " I suggest you run along..."
" What if I don't want to?" I blurted and slapped my mouth. I averted my gaze. Ethan is right in front of me on the driver's seat. I try to withdraw, but he pans my head back to him.
" Is that a yes to a second night," his breath brushed my face. I feel his restraints waning. His hands trembles. My chest rose and fell in sync with his. In a hot flash, he pressed a button, sealing us away from the driver.
His lips smashed against mine. His fingers hurriedly tugged at my bra and flung it aside.
" Aaron," his name escaped my lips.
He paused, right over me, with eyes searching mine in an enthralling way. I fell for those blue eyes soaking wet below.
He took too long. So long that I guided his hands back on my body. " You can't stop." My voice cracked.
" Yes ma'am," he said and slipped his hands under my blouse, cupping my boobs. I gasped his name again. Wetting up for him in ways I couldn't control.
When he finally slid in, panting over me, I screamed his name. Ignoring the pain of the initial thrust, I grabbed his ass, pressing him back inside.
I want to savour this moment. Every part of him. If I don't get another chance, this is the memory I plan to keep.
His lips mouthed my nipples. He nibbled and bit me.
I should have backed away. But my arms voluntarily rounded his head begging for more.
The car swerved in the heat of his passion. I was straddling him in no time. Eyes locked onto mine, he thrust from below, hands on my ass, lips apart.
I felt a pull out of this world. Nothing else mattered. The rhythm of our hearts. Our body. " Oh Aaron..." I pushed back his chest, longing to wet my lips with his.
He didn't hesitate. It felt like he heard my thoughts. Sealing my lips, his left hand rubbed the ring of my breast. And below, he didn't break away for a moment.
Drenched in the heat of our bodies, our body entangled at the end.
" We are here," I said to him. His brows knitted in a frown. Of course, Ethan knows my house, and I know that's what he must be wondering right now.
"I will come for you," I heard him say.
I waited for him to leave before finding my way to Lisa's home. I know what awaits me in my foster home. There's no way I'm going in there.
Humming a song in my mind, I quickened my pace. Arriving Lisa's home, I met her arguing with her parents.
“ You have no right to choose a husband for me. You two don't have that right.”
“ Lisa, our decision is final. This is a sacrifice you should make for our family.”
“ Sacrifice? Oh, so I'm your lamb of sacrifice now?” She shrieked and pushed down one of her parent's imported vase.
“ Lisa,” I tried to intervene. She raised her hand, halting my steps.
“ If you really want to help me, let my parents adopt you so you can take my place. As long as you are a Hawcroft, you're suitable for the proposal.” She said and dashed inside with tears stung eyes.
I didn't take it seriously. Her parents are well off, and the kind of family that are careful of mixing up. “ No way!” I pushed it off my head, but when I turned to apologize on her behalf, they had their eyes glued on me, lips pursed with contemplating look.
“ I will go and talk to her.”
“ Ehh…yeah about that, Lisa did mention that you're a foster kid. Right?”
I nodded.
They shared a glance. Her mother closed in and took my hand. “ Would you like to be our daughter?”
“ No way!” I blurted.
“ I mean, no way you would want me.”
The dazed look on their faces quickly transited into a starry smile.
The next day, I signed the adoption document. A day before I would begin my college journey, I was at the city hall waiting for my groom-to-be.
After ages, a black sedan pulled up in front of the registry.
“ Too classy,” I thought and looked away, expecting some other vehicle to pull up with my groom inside.
“ Hang on in there,” Lisa encouraged me, wearing a grateful smile. But it suddenly faltered. I followed her train of sight to a young man in a black tailored suit. Another stepped out, and yet another before the last person left the car. All in the same suit.
Ethan?!
“ Sorry we are late,” one of them said, hurrying towards us. I'm not sure which one of them is the groom since they're all in the same suit, but my throat had dried up upon seeing him.
He walked up to me, wearing a thin smile.
I gulped, with nothing but the veil between us.
“ Thank you for accepting the proposal on such short notice. I assure you that you won't regret it.”
I think I am regretting already. There's no way he's the groom!
Goodness! Not after everything that has happened in the past few days.
" Nicki, meet Ethan Ross Devinsky."
I shot a glare at Lisa, and back at him. " Ethan is a Devinsky?"
I bit my lower lip, and stepped aside for him to greet my new parents. Lisa took the opportunity and stole me away inside.
“ Quick, let's exchange our clothes.”
My lips parted. “ What?”
“ What are you waiting for? This is my wedding after all. You're just a step-in remember?”
" How could I have known that he's a Devinsky? He proposed through his parents! Come on, take off the dress," she rasped.
My breath caught in my throat, I felt my heart cave. Without waiting for a response from me, she unzipped my dress and forced it off me. “ Good thing we are the same size.” She plastered a fake smile.
“ You should leave. I don't want anyone to notice that we switched places.”
I was still processing what had just happened when her parents rushed in and met us switched. She didn't wait to offer any explanation before darting off.
“ What happened?”
“ She changed her mind,” I flatly replied. Her parents sighed and shook their heads.
“ Sorry about that, Nicki. Anyway, you are still getting married today.” They announced.
“ To whom?” I squinted my eyes in surprise. “ Are there two grooms?”
The request burnt on my eardrums, like hot coals. My gaze hardened, jaw clenched and eyes frozen in space. Numbed and speechless, her words re-echoed in my head. It felt like fate itself is telling me that I can't handle what's coming. I can't stop our eventual separation. The muscles around my heart tightens. I look up and shut my eyes. I have to tell her, but each time our gaze lock, and she looks at me tenderly, I find every reason not to.I can't. But I have to let her go.“ Maybe we should…”“ What?” Her lips parted in a low shallow gasp. Her eyes scans mine with critical attention and confusion. She shakes her head, tears creating a mist over her eyes, which blurred in time and drop. That one drop. That single drop drove a sword straight into my heart. She cried. This time, it is because of me.I look at the tears I caused but I can't go back.“ You will have half of everything I own. Every penny…”“ Stop!” She hushed me, hands suspended, while her gaze pulled away from me, sc
Agonizing silence swallowed both of our voices, until the thud of the boots of the patrol guards could be heard clearly in the room.“ You are married to her?” He queried, eyes almost popping out of their shells. “ Oh, my god!" He gasped, with his right palm over his mouth, stunned into silence. “ For how long now?”“ Not up to a year,” I droned, trying not to imagine the girl I can proudly call my soulmate being an infiltrator. An insider with a motive of her own: revenge. “ No, it can not be Nicki.” I said to myself. “ She wouldn't hide the truth from me if she knew. My marriage can not be a product of her scheme. Nicki isn't made of such a material.“ Are you going to confront her?”“ No!” I cut in, more certain about her innocence than I could ever be. “ It was just fate. She grew up a beautiful soul thanks to her grandmother. She doesn't remember the boy, but she remembers the accident. If she had known, the Nicki I know wouldn't have married me even for all the treasures in the
“ What's the matter, Aaron?” My voice hollowed out, fright crawling into the centre of my heart. Something feels too wrong… so off about him. I clutch the sides of his shirt, closing in like it could make him open up to me. Lips sealed shut, he stared blankly into space.“ Honey,” I called in a panic, my heartbeat flying over the roof of my heart. He shakes his head, like he wants to dislodge something from his head or make sense of something that no longer made sense.“ How small were you when this happened?” He queried, his face completely drained of colour.I made a sign with my hand right up to my waist. “ About this small,” I replied, clutching the side of my chiffon dress. (Aaron)I had taken the detour. I took this path to revisit the sight of the accident. It's still fresh in my memory. Everytime I close my eyes, I still see her. I'm wondering how she has eluded me when Nicki suddenly requested to be accompanied somewhere. I lifted a brow. Not at the request but the clouds ho
(Nicki)“ Aren't you so sweet, my darling husband?” I smirked. “ I presume you are beginning to seek an escape. To be rid of me somehow.” I tilt my head quizzically, wearing a cynical glare. He pressed his lips tight, eyes roaming everywhere without focusing on a given place.“ Who is she?”“ Who is she?” He returned the question, brows furrowed in a daze, denial wrinkling his forehead into lines that struggled to touch each other.“ You're suggesting a divorce. There has got to be someone out there…someone sexier…hang on, I'm still talking…”“ You said your grandfather wants you to divorce me. I was merely asking if…”“ If it's what I want so you can use the wholesome opportunity to get yourself a fresher pasture.”“ Forget I ever asked, alright.” His voice lowered in a fake panic. I punched his chest and looked away, my attention drifting off to where the waters curve in the distance. After a long while, my voice cut into the silence, low and sullen. “ I wish there was another way.
I carry that weight home, and it only left my mind temporary when I put her to sleep. Relief washes over me like I have pleased some deity or spirit out there.Coming downstairs, I waved at the butler and we stepped outside. “ You knew, didn't you?”His forehead wrinkled, but his lips remained tight as if there is a secret he can't give away. “ I'm referring to the accident. You knew…you remembered it was where the little boy was taken and that room…that exact room was where he died. Why didn't you tell me straight up rather than blasting me for everything that has happened so far.”“ I know damn well it was my fault, Mr. Li. Damn well. I got behind those wheels because my uncle obliged me. Because he wanted to please me so much that he let a child take a wheel…I never shrugged off the responsibility even for a moment.”“ I have searched for her and if that's the reason you don't feel you can trust me enough to protect my own wife. Fine. Guard her with yours…”“ You have no idea wha
I leveled up, but he looked me straight in the eyes, and scoffed. “ Go and take care of your wife…”“ Mr. Li!”He halted, and turned around to face me again. This time with a bristle that made me rethink my attitude for a moment. “ If you had an idea about whom she really is, you would have put a bullet to the lady Samantha's head for her involvement in the shooting. What did you do?”“ You handed her a passport to return with a more ridiculous scheme. What about the elders? What did you do to any of them?”“ I understand they're your family, but she's your wife. And if you won't do your duty to her as her husband, in full…I will step in as her guardian…”“ This is still about the shooting…”“ Yes, it is damn about that! That was a bullet, Aaron. A bullet!” His voice lowered to a breaking point. It almost sounded like a crack. A crack I never saw coming in him. Now that I think about it, he mentioned about her identity. “ Would things have been any different between the both of us if
