"So it's best you run and never look back.”

My home training and every restraint within me elapse. “ it was you?"

" I'm hurt you didn't recognize me," he spoke softly. His voice rang a dangerous note in my head, and between my legs.

" I understand it's the terms of the business," he glanced down at my boobs, lips tilted by the side. " I suggest you run along..."

" What if I don't want to?" I blurted and slapped my mouth. I averted my gaze. Ethan is right in front of me on the driver's seat. I try to withdraw, but he pans my head back to him.

" Is that a yes to a second night," his breath brushed my face. I feel his restraints waning. His hands trembles. My chest rose and fell in sync with his. In a hot flash, he pressed a button, sealing us away from the driver.

His lips smashed against mine. His fingers hurriedly tugged at my bra and flung it aside.

" Aaron," his name escaped my lips.

He paused, right over me, with eyes searching mine in an enthralling way. I fell for those blue eyes soaking wet below.

He took too long. So long that I guided his hands back on my body. " You can't stop." My voice cracked.

" Yes ma'am," he said and slipped his hands under my blouse, cupping my boobs. I gasped his name again. Wetting up for him in ways I couldn't control.

When he finally slid in, panting over me, I screamed his name. Ignoring the pain of the initial thrust, I grabbed his ass, pressing him back inside.

I want to savour this moment. Every part of him. If I don't get another chance, this is the memory I plan to keep.

His lips mouthed my nipples. He nibbled and bit me.

I should have backed away. But my arms voluntarily rounded his head begging for more.

The car swerved in the heat of his passion. I was straddling him in no time. Eyes locked onto mine, he thrust from below, hands on my ass, lips apart.

I felt a pull out of this world. Nothing else mattered. The rhythm of our hearts. Our body. " Oh Aaron..." I pushed back his chest, longing to wet my lips with his.

He didn't hesitate. It felt like he heard my thoughts. Sealing my lips, his left hand rubbed the ring of my breast. And below, he didn't break away for a moment.

Drenched in the heat of our bodies, our body entangled at the end.

" We are here," I said to him. His brows knitted in a frown. Of course, Ethan knows my house, and I know that's what he must be wondering right now.

"I will come for you," I heard him say.

I waited for him to leave before finding my way to Lisa's home. I know what awaits me in my foster home. There's no way I'm going in there.

Humming a song in my mind, I quickened my pace. Arriving Lisa's home, I met her arguing with her parents.

“ You have no right to choose a husband for me. You two don't have that right.”

“ Lisa, our decision is final. This is a sacrifice you should make for our family.”

“ Sacrifice? Oh, so I'm your lamb of sacrifice now?” She shrieked and pushed down one of her parent's imported vase.

“ Lisa,” I tried to intervene. She raised her hand, halting my steps.

“ If you really want to help me, let my parents adopt you so you can take my place. As long as you are a Hawcroft, you're suitable for the proposal.” She said and dashed inside with tears stung eyes.

I didn't take it seriously. Her parents are well off, and the kind of family that are careful of mixing up. “ No way!” I pushed it off my head, but when I turned to apologize on her behalf, they had their eyes glued on me, lips pursed with contemplating look.

“ I will go and talk to her.”

“ Ehh…yeah about that, Lisa did mention that you're a foster kid. Right?”

I nodded.

They shared a glance. Her mother closed in and took my hand. “ Would you like to be our daughter?”

“ No way!” I blurted.

“ I mean, no way you would want me.”

The dazed look on their faces quickly transited into a starry smile.

The next day, I signed the adoption document. A day before I would begin my college journey, I was at the city hall waiting for my groom-to-be.

After ages, a black sedan pulled up in front of the registry.

“ Too classy,” I thought and looked away, expecting some other vehicle to pull up with my groom inside.

“ Hang on in there,” Lisa encouraged me, wearing a grateful smile. But it suddenly faltered. I followed her train of sight to a young man in a black tailored suit. Another stepped out, and yet another before the last person left the car. All in the same suit.

Ethan?!

“ Sorry we are late,” one of them said, hurrying towards us. I'm not sure which one of them is the groom since they're all in the same suit, but my throat had dried up upon seeing him.

He walked up to me, wearing a thin smile.

I gulped, with nothing but the veil between us.

“ Thank you for accepting the proposal on such short notice. I assure you that you won't regret it.”

I think I am regretting already. There's no way he's the groom!

Goodness! Not after everything that has happened in the past few days.

" Nicki, meet Ethan Ross Devinsky."

I shot a glare at Lisa, and back at him. " Ethan is a Devinsky?"

I bit my lower lip, and stepped aside for him to greet my new parents. Lisa took the opportunity and stole me away inside.

“ Quick, let's exchange our clothes.”

My lips parted. “ What?”

“ What are you waiting for? This is my wedding after all. You're just a step-in remember?”

" How could I have known that he's a Devinsky? He proposed through his parents! Come on, take off the dress," she rasped.

My breath caught in my throat, I felt my heart cave. Without waiting for a response from me, she unzipped my dress and forced it off me. “ Good thing we are the same size.” She plastered a fake smile.

“ You should leave. I don't want anyone to notice that we switched places.”

I was still processing what had just happened when her parents rushed in and met us switched. She didn't wait to offer any explanation before darting off.

“ What happened?”

“ She changed her mind,” I flatly replied. Her parents sighed and shook their heads.

“ Sorry about that, Nicki. Anyway, you are still getting married today.” They announced.

“ To whom?” I squinted my eyes in surprise. “ Are there two grooms?”

(Nicki)I'm tired.Tired of fighting to be with Aaron. To retain his attention and the position of being his wife. His family, his history with Samantha and the looming shadow of Steven over everything I cherish and hold dear. I'm tired of everything.Somewhere in my head, I'm convinced he's responsible for Samantha's presence in the family dinner. But I hate to admit it to myself that there's no connection between Samantha's unlikable presence and the failed assassination attempt.Weeks after the incident, I stood before an open grave. This is not the little Nicki who brawled her eyes out during her family's funeral. She's older. Less lonely. But still the same girl. The one person who had stood by my side during my family's funeral is gone.I watched as the casket lowered, along with the remains of my amnesiac grandmother. My last relative. It numbs my thoughts that I'm alone now. Before granny passed, I was a stranger to her. My visits to the nursing home had decreased when I got

Patience thinned into a thread, I exhaled, fighting off the intentions to kill, and a growing exhaustion as well. “ What should I do, Mrs. Copeland? I want his head for what he has done. I would wrap it as a present and send it to that half-baked twit who struck at my crown…”“ Consider that done, Sir.” She said, and silence reigned. It came with a rush of adrenaline. I gaped for a second, struck by her immediate agreement. With her response, my chest fell, like an appeased deity before I hung up. My attention reverted to Nicki, and something broke inside me. “ I shouldn't have gone back. You never wanted me to leave your side. It feels like I fail you everytime you need me.” I thought, caressing her cheeks. She warned me in her own way. The signs were there. The next day, I have my heartbeat pacing to the beep of the monitor, counting along and drifting off to sleep, when I heard a knock, and next came a blonde hair, pale face and red lips.Samantha.I shut my eyes, and took a deep

(Aaron)I had returned to set the record straight. It had come to my knowledge that my nephews were lobbying the company's stakeholders, and secretly vying for top position and offices in the company. I aim to let them know it wouldn't happen under my nose.If they want it. They have to earn it. But before I could reach my destination, I heard the loud crash and the subsequent alarm. A gunshot.“ Nicki!” My blood raged as I took a flight down the same stairs, praying to God to keep her safe.“ Oh God! Get the doctor, now!”Anger surged beneath my skin. Pangs of fear and rage mixed seamlessly within me. Holding her in my hands, fear gnawed at my chest, twisting my insides. It feels like my mind is floating. It feels like I could lose her if I held too tight, and it also feels like I could lose her if I loosen my grip an inch.“ Stay with me, Nicki…hold on, wife. Please, don't do this to me, Nicki. Don't do this to me.” My voice cracked, and something dropped on shirt, leaving a wet p

41“ Sister?!” He quizzed. “ When have you ever let someone outside our family call you that?”“Shut up!” She punched his rib again. “ Ouch! You want to take her around? Goodness!”Fighting his taunts with a glare, she takes my hand and leads me away. “ Let me show you around,” she repeated with a smile, ignoring Aaron completely. Uncomfortable? Yes. Can I say no? Definitely not me.The second we were out of earshot, she pulled me closer. “ How did you do it?”“ Do what?” I asked, as confused as anyone would be in my shoes.“ How did you…you know…get him…have you consummated your marriage with him?” She dropped the question after stuttering through the initial words.I nodded, and she returned the question. “ How did you do it?”It suddenly occurred to me that she's talking about Aaron's medical condition.I smiled, knowingly. “ It just happened, sister.”“ Just like that?!”“ Just like that,” I repeated. With a contented smile, she stretched, and yawned dramatically. “ Honestly, it

  • My Professor Is My Husband    Chapter 40: Devinsky family dinner

(Nicki)Learning of the upcoming Devinsky family dinner had given me more nightmares than I have had in my whole life put together. Aaron informed me two days ago. I hoped it would still be a month away, but it was closer than I anticipated.I stood before the mirror, watching my reflection with little confidence and no satisfaction.Nothing seems to fit. Not even the dresses I purchased last time. Either the color looks too dim or too bright. The slit is too high up, or too low, or it doesn't seem to blend with my skin color. My wardrobe is a mess.“ I look fat, don't I?” I asked out loud. Standing before his closet, he dips his head backwards to get a glimpse of me. “ I doubt.” I insisted, and spinned. “ Well, take a closer look.”“ How close do you want me to look?” He asked, abandoning his business, hands in the pockets of his pants.“ That close,” I gestured that he should stay where he was and tell me.He chuckled. “ Well, from this close, I don't think so. I could give you a b

(Nicki)After a long while of wrestling the conflicting thoughts within me, I had finally let it out. I cheated on him…but with him. What a relief?A temporary relief. With his answer, my heart had quickly rolled into a pang of doubtful assessments. I have gotten five messages. All from anonymous sources, or a source as it might be.Photos. Short videos. Everything taken from the second I walked out of the hotel. Whoever it was, had seen me go in. At first, I had thought that it was connected to the stranger I supposed that I had slept with. But with Aaron owning up to that, the huge discrepancy takes the spotlight.“ Let me handle it,” he says and takes my phone. “ You will get another by the end of the day.”He's about leaving when something else strikes my thought. Or should I say, someone else.“ How's her health now?” I asked him, torn between concern and the urge to pry on his activities for the past two days. “ About that, Nicki…”“ I heard she's cancer free now.”“ Yes,” he
