Rocking a joggers pant and a crop top, I dominated the floor.

“ Go birthday girl!” Lisa hailed, cheering from the side and whooping. I was letting it all out on the floor. All the steam from pent-up anger. I danced it all out like it was going to be my last.

Letting the anger go. The hate. The pangs bombarding my abdomen in a series.

After exhausting dances, we went to the bar for a drink. The girl's giggled on their way. Like always, they had drawn the attention of some of the hottest men in the club. Like moth around a flame, some were coming by already.

As anticipated, Lisa had the first catch.

I wanted them to have some space. She seemed to be into the guy. I dragged the other two girls close to the DG’s stand and tossed a can of beer to him.

He hollered.

I cheered, randomly glancing back to make sure she's fine. And when I noticed she wasn't enjoying the company anymore, I shimmied through the crowd, dragging the girls with me and bumped into him.

“ Oh dear!” I drawled. “ What a mess!” I tried wiping his stained shirt. It had drink all over.

“ No, it's alright.” He said, holding me away.

“ Alright,” I beamed and turned to Lisa. “ I'm feeling dizzy with happiness. Can we go home please?”

“ Sure,” she hurriedly replied. I made sure she was in front of me as we left the hall.

Outside, Lisa stopped a calm looking gentleman and asked him for a ride. One glance at him, and his stature struck my cerebellum.

“ We are sorry. We can not drive in this state. Could you please give us a lift?”

He glanced my way, and surveyed us all with critical eyes.

“ Get a cab. I will pay.” He said and without waiting, he flagged one for us.

I noticed beads of sweat forming on his forehead and around his neck.

I grew worried.

The cab stopped for us to enter. I changed my mind. “ You all go ahead. I will follow.”

Lisa winked. I shook my head mechanically at what I supposed she must be thinking.

Moments later, his voice slit the silence, his voice filtered into my ears like a rasp, but threateningly low. “ You should leave. I'm unstable right now.”

" That voice," I thought, and quickly brushed it away. It must be my mind messing with me.

I looked at the black SUV and back at him. “ That should explain why he hasn't gotten into the car. He can't possibly drive in this state.” I thought.

I gave him a nod. “ I noticed. I will stand here until whomever you are waiting for arrives.”

" That's if you aren't pissed that a girl wants to protect you."

He chuckled, and shook his head. " I don't mind."

Moments later, a Limo pulled up in front of us.

“ Wow!” I mumbled.

The driver helped him in and turned to me.

“ Please, madame.” He motioned to the car.

“ No…I will be on my way —”

Ethan!

Oh my god! Of everything fate has in store, why this?

" Please, he insists." He motioned to the car again.

No idea how many side hustles he has got, but this is by far the more modest.

Eyes flickering like candles in the wind, I glanced around. I felt choked by the suffocating silence inside. A snappy remark might help, right?

Say something, Nicki!

" you should get a cold bath, it will help." I stammered.

He scoffed. " What if I don't? Will you force me into the bath?" He spoke, voice dangerously low. It tickled my imagination. His side glances and that dirty smirk on his face took my mind back to the night before.

The thought of what could happen between us at such a close proximity ignited a burning heat between my legs. I remember the passion of the strangers thrust. However painful at first, it felt surreal to be one with a man in ways I couldn't begin to fully comprehend.

The symphony of our movement. His ravenous desire. His slipping fingers and wandering hands.

So many emotions all in one.

“ This is bad,” I thought, creating a little space between us. I need to get off and clear my head. My heart beat paces. I'm worried he might hear the thud of my heart.

" I... I didn't mean to sound that way," I scrambled for the right words about to bolt out of the limo. He grabbed my wrist.

" Stay with me." He beckoned. Unsure of how to respond, I nodded and sank into silence. His grip didn't leave mine. It stuck there, and the gentle glide of his fingers over my skin heightened the conflict brewing inside me.

He touched with clarity. Like he owned every inch of the body he touched.

I feel my pant dampen and turn away, cheeks flushed red in embarrassment.

" I'm Aaron Devinsky," he spoke after an eternity, his voice filtered into my ears like a flirtatious note. " You will go straight home?"

" Yes. Yes." I fumbled for words. " Aaron Devinsky?" I screamed in my mind, eyes trained ahead.

" I'm in the limo of Aaron Devinsky? With Aaron Devinsky himself?"

Suddenly, I'm checking my attitude. I need to be in my best behavior. This is the wealthiest family in the country. I may not know much about them, but that surname will be sheltering me for the next few years in college.

" Where do you live?"

I called it out in a breath.

" You're a foster kid?"

" Yes. I will be out soon. I just turned eighteen yesterday," I replied without meeting his gaze. Eternity passed, his breath became too shallow and heavy. It quickened with his heart beat. I have heard of this reaction. Mostly when someone’s drink is spiked.

I have never encountered a life experience.

He took off his watch, and handed it over to me. A brand new Rolex.

“ What for?” I handled it like an egg, careful not to smash or scratch.

“ Happy birthday.

I'm in no mood to entertain guests today. I should have given you a treat. If my sister had lived, she would have been around the same age.”

" Should have?" I queried. " Why is everything about him taking my mind back to the man I met yesterday?"

He isn't just breathtakingly handsome, he is considerate and good natured.

“ I can't keep it,” I replied. “ I'm afraid I will have to sell it to clear one or two bills.”

He chuckled. “ I can't take back what has been given,” he droned and looked away.

I held the Rolex to my chest. Words battled for an exit from my mind. Taking my fate in my hands, I made my move.

“ I will keep it if you promise to come back for it.”

He lifted his head, gaze locked onto mine.

“ Promise me that you will come for it.”

“ What's your name?”

“ Nichole Belma. Friends call me Nicki.”

“ Alright, Nicki. I can not make that promise. If I do, I might not come for the wristwatch alone.” His eyes trailed my lips and settled for a second.

“ I might return for something more. Something I have tasted."

My breath hitched. Is it really him? Pinch me. Did I sleep with a Devinsky?

The request burnt on my eardrums, like hot coals. My gaze hardened, jaw clenched and eyes frozen in space. Numbed and speechless, her words re-echoed in my head. It felt like fate itself is telling me that I can't handle what's coming. I can't stop our eventual separation. The muscles around my heart tightens. I look up and shut my eyes. I have to tell her, but each time our gaze lock, and she looks at me tenderly, I find every reason not to.I can't. But I have to let her go.“ Maybe we should…”“ What?” Her lips parted in a low shallow gasp. Her eyes scans mine with critical attention and confusion. She shakes her head, tears creating a mist over her eyes, which blurred in time and drop. That one drop. That single drop drove a sword straight into my heart. She cried. This time, it is because of me.I look at the tears I caused but I can't go back.“ You will have half of everything I own. Every penny…”“ Stop!” She hushed me, hands suspended, while her gaze pulled away from me, sc

Agonizing silence swallowed both of our voices, until the thud of the boots of the patrol guards could be heard clearly in the room.“ You are married to her?” He queried, eyes almost popping out of their shells. “ Oh, my god!" He gasped, with his right palm over his mouth, stunned into silence. “ For how long now?”“ Not up to a year,” I droned, trying not to imagine the girl I can proudly call my soulmate being an infiltrator. An insider with a motive of her own: revenge. “ No, it can not be Nicki.” I said to myself. “ She wouldn't hide the truth from me if she knew. My marriage can not be a product of her scheme. Nicki isn't made of such a material.“ Are you going to confront her?”“ No!” I cut in, more certain about her innocence than I could ever be. “ It was just fate. She grew up a beautiful soul thanks to her grandmother. She doesn't remember the boy, but she remembers the accident. If she had known, the Nicki I know wouldn't have married me even for all the treasures in the

“ What's the matter, Aaron?” My voice hollowed out, fright crawling into the centre of my heart. Something feels too wrong… so off about him. I clutch the sides of his shirt, closing in like it could make him open up to me. Lips sealed shut, he stared blankly into space.“ Honey,” I called in a panic, my heartbeat flying over the roof of my heart. He shakes his head, like he wants to dislodge something from his head or make sense of something that no longer made sense.“ How small were you when this happened?” He queried, his face completely drained of colour.I made a sign with my hand right up to my waist. “ About this small,” I replied, clutching the side of my chiffon dress. (Aaron)I had taken the detour. I took this path to revisit the sight of the accident. It's still fresh in my memory. Everytime I close my eyes, I still see her. I'm wondering how she has eluded me when Nicki suddenly requested to be accompanied somewhere. I lifted a brow. Not at the request but the clouds ho

(Nicki)“ Aren't you so sweet, my darling husband?” I smirked. “ I presume you are beginning to seek an escape. To be rid of me somehow.” I tilt my head quizzically, wearing a cynical glare. He pressed his lips tight, eyes roaming everywhere without focusing on a given place.“ Who is she?”“ Who is she?” He returned the question, brows furrowed in a daze, denial wrinkling his forehead into lines that struggled to touch each other.“ You're suggesting a divorce. There has got to be someone out there…someone sexier…hang on, I'm still talking…”“ You said your grandfather wants you to divorce me. I was merely asking if…”“ If it's what I want so you can use the wholesome opportunity to get yourself a fresher pasture.”“ Forget I ever asked, alright.” His voice lowered in a fake panic. I punched his chest and looked away, my attention drifting off to where the waters curve in the distance. After a long while, my voice cut into the silence, low and sullen. “ I wish there was another way.

I carry that weight home, and it only left my mind temporary when I put her to sleep. Relief washes over me like I have pleased some deity or spirit out there.Coming downstairs, I waved at the butler and we stepped outside. “ You knew, didn't you?”His forehead wrinkled, but his lips remained tight as if there is a secret he can't give away. “ I'm referring to the accident. You knew…you remembered it was where the little boy was taken and that room…that exact room was where he died. Why didn't you tell me straight up rather than blasting me for everything that has happened so far.”“ I know damn well it was my fault, Mr. Li. Damn well. I got behind those wheels because my uncle obliged me. Because he wanted to please me so much that he let a child take a wheel…I never shrugged off the responsibility even for a moment.”“ I have searched for her and if that's the reason you don't feel you can trust me enough to protect my own wife. Fine. Guard her with yours…”“ You have no idea wha

I leveled up, but he looked me straight in the eyes, and scoffed. “ Go and take care of your wife…”“ Mr. Li!”He halted, and turned around to face me again. This time with a bristle that made me rethink my attitude for a moment. “ If you had an idea about whom she really is, you would have put a bullet to the lady Samantha's head for her involvement in the shooting. What did you do?”“ You handed her a passport to return with a more ridiculous scheme. What about the elders? What did you do to any of them?”“ I understand they're your family, but she's your wife. And if you won't do your duty to her as her husband, in full…I will step in as her guardian…”“ This is still about the shooting…”“ Yes, it is damn about that! That was a bullet, Aaron. A bullet!” His voice lowered to a breaking point. It almost sounded like a crack. A crack I never saw coming in him. Now that I think about it, he mentioned about her identity. “ Would things have been any different between the both of us if
