“So, you thought that sacrificing Madeline (Nathan pressed on this name) would make those people back off, and then our pack would have some peaceful years?” Nathan asked sarcastically.

I wanted to glare at him for using this tone on my mother, but the way they were putting the whole incident, it sounded like what Nathan said.

“This is exactly what we did, Nathan. Somehow, they learned about Ava’s arrival here before her death. Madeline and Angel weren’t the only pups who were attacked by them.
