Overcoming Chapter Ten

My eyes fluttered, and I rubbed the sleep from my eyes as I woke to the sun that beamed in through the open blinds. Derrick and I failed to shut the blinds before going to bed, I suppose. I tried to recall why they were open in the first place because Derrick and I always kept them closed. Then I realized I was alone in bed. A day doesn't fail that I don't wake up with Derrick embracing me. I glanced around our room and saw Derrick was nowhere in sight. What the heck is going on? I grabbed my phone, squinting to see what time it was. I had a text message, and it was almost eleven. I poked at the messaging icon and realized the text was from Derrick.
