Rosie’s POV

The silence that followed my question was deafening.

Every day since I overheard what he said to Marco, I’d done everything I could to avoid him. Because I knew it would come down to this moment.

I hadn’t even spoken much to Tyler or Chris, afraid that I would spill it all to them in an emotional outburst. I’d simply let them know I'd been training solo and that I was very sad about something.

But now there was nowhere left to run. I had been fooling myself in putting it off to begin with.

I allowed myself to look at him one last time, memorizing every detail of his body. The stray hair that fell in his eyes at times, the way the lean muscle peeked out from everything he wore.

The dreams I had that were so intense didn’t even do him justice.

Uncle closed his eyes for a moment, as if the weight of what he was about to say pained him. When he looked at me again, something in his gaze had softened. My body jolted to life like it always did when those gray eyes met mine.

  • My Uncle Alpha, My Mate   CHAPTER TWENTY

Nikolas’ POVI lingered at the door as Marco zipped up his bag, his expression calm—at least on the surface. I leaned against the frame with my arms crossed. “You’ve packed light.”He gave me a side glance, then a crooked grin. “We'll be back in no time. You'll see."I wanted to believe that. He was an excellent beta. Maybe he would achieve the impossible, and he and the warriors would nullify the threat. My thoughts were so tangled as I told him to be careful out there. Rosie's father came to mind as Marco slung his bag over his shoulder. He paused, then nodded once. “I will.”There was a beat of silence between us before he added casually, “You sure you’ll be alright here? With… everything?”I knew it wasn't my ability to protect the pack without him that he was questioning. He didn’t say her name, but he didn’t have to.“Rosie,” I said, breaking the tension myself, “is hurting. And truthfully, so am I.”Marco turned, surprised.“I know I can't mark her, but I also don’t want to le

  • My Uncle Alpha, My Mate   CHAPTER EIGHTEEN

Nikolas’ POVNikolas’ POVI knew the moment Rosie stepped onto the stairs leading to this part of the hospital. I tuned into her movements and noted her scent. I knew when she stopped outside the door to listen instead of showing herself.Sweet roses and something uniquely hers—wild, bright, tempting, wafted toward me. It filled the hallway, clinging to the walls long after she slipped out the hallway. I knew she was sad. I could almost feel it.I exhaled hard, willing the ache in my chest to subside."Alpha, any bad news?" Marco asked. He must have noted my reaction. I schooled my face and shook my head. "No. Rosie was listening to our conversation. I just heard her leave."His brow furrowed, “You let her hear it.”I gave a bitter scoff. “I did.”Marco was silent for a long time, staring at me like he didn’t quite believe what he’d heard. “I’d rather she hate me,” I said, voice rough, “than be targeted by him.”The Rogue King was the reason for all of this. The reason I couldn’t al

  • My Uncle Alpha, My Mate   CHAPTER SEVENTEEN

Rosie’s POVI had set my alarm for a ridiculous time. I had to see Marco—if not for me, then for Chris. She’d called and texted so many times last night that I eventually gave in and asked one of the guards if they knew how he was doing.Doctor Cameron had said he was stable. I wondered if he would wake up today…and be able to answer a couple more burning questions.I left before anyone else was awake, tiptoeing past the creaky steps in the hallway. It was a shift change for the security, and it seemed Uncle had yet to double them. I doubted I’d be able to do this again and get away with it, though.I slipped out and headed for the hospital, careful to keep my senses alert for anything out of place. But I made it there without incident or any scents that didn’t belong. The rogues had accomplished what they wanted-for now. The hospital was quiet at this hour beyond the occasional beep from a monitor or the soft murmur of voices behind closed doors. I slipped through the side entranc

  • My Uncle Alpha, My Mate   CHAPTER SIXTEEN

Rosie’s POVMarco groaned, his head lolling to the side, face pale and mottled with bruises. “Rosie…?”“Tyler, help me get him upright!”Tyler dropped to his knees beside Marco, immediately checking him over with steady hands.Chris lingered just behind us, her usual boldness replaced by a tremble in her stance. Fear flickered across her face, raw and unguarded.“Hey,” I said gently, glancing back at her, “he’s going to be okay.”She gave a shaky nod and moved closer, kneeling on Marco’s other side. Her hands hovered uncertainly, unsure where to help. The front of Marco’s shirt was soaked in blood, the dark stain spreading into the dirt beneath him.“Marco?” she whispered, carefully brushing a strand of hair from his forehead. “Stay with us, okay? Please.”“He needs a medic—fast,” Tyler said, voice grim.My fingers trembled as I reached out through the mindlink. The thought alone—that something out there was strong enough to bring Beta Marco down—sent a cold rush through me.‘Rosie?’

  • My Uncle Alpha, My Mate   CHAPTER FIFTEEN

Rosie’s POVChris gasped. Tyler grinned. Vivian rolled her eyes so hard I thought they might get stuck.Chris bumped me with her elbow. “This is big, babe. Huge.”My heart thumped loud and fast against my ribs as I nodded and accepted the assignment with what I hoped looked like confidence and not sheer panic. I would be responsible for the safety of more than myself. I should be grateful for the chance, the belief in my abilities which I hate begged him for.And I had to report directly to him afterward. The man who’d—I shoved the memory of the dream out of my head so hard I nearly gave myself whiplash.Tyler jogged over afterward to congratulate me."Any advice?" I asked him, forcing a grin too wide. “Just stay alert. Watch for movement near the borders—especially unfamiliar scents. If anything feels off, report it without hesitation. You'll do fine.” he ruffled my hair, and it reminded me of Uncle again. Ugh.“Thanks, Ty."Chris was twirling exuberantly next to me. She always had
