Chapter 3

Author: Gigi Prosper
On my way home, my emotions were all over the place.

Back then, I'd severed ties with my family and stubbornly chose to be with Jenna. We'd slept in basements, worked delivery jobs, and waited tables just to scrape together a tiny bit of savings.

In the fourth year of our startup, my family finally relented and accepted our relationship. We'd registered our marriage and were legally husband and wife by then.

I'd secretly leveraged my family's strings to help grow the company into what it was today, but to make her happy, I'd never told her the truth. So, she genuinely believed it was all the fruit of her hard work.

But ever since Ansel became our driver, our relationship started to slowly, silently rot away.

When I unlocked the door and stepped into the living room, the first thing I noticed was a pair of men's leather shoes. On the balcony, there were even two pairs of underwear that weren't mine.

My blood boiled in fury as I strode toward the bedroom, where the bed was a disheveled mess, and the floor was littered with countless used condoms.

I never imagined that while I was away, Jenna had taken the chance to bring Ansel into our bed. My hands were shaking from the rage, and the humiliation of being cheated on crashed over me like a tidal wave.

I frantically called Jenna to demand an explanation, but she never picked up. It wasn't until 8:00 pm that Ansel opened the front door with practiced ease and carried the drunken Jenna in.

My expression was gloomy as I blocked his way. "You may leave now. I'll take care of my wife."

I reached out to take her from his arms, but she shoved me away. "Go away! I only want Ansel to stay with me!"

Ansel shot me a triumphant grin, his eyes gleaming with unwavering determination. "I'll do it, Mr. Crane. I'm used to taking care of her.

"Jenna only has eyes for me right now. She doesn't like outsiders touching her."

I was the legal husband, and yet, I was the so-called outsider.

"Jenna, I want you to kick him out."

Furious, Jenna ripped her bag off her shoulder and slammed it right into my face. "If anyone's leaving, it's you, Elton. I'm the one carrying this entire family on my back, and what have you even done besides ducking your responsibilities and fooling around?

"Instead of wasting time being jealous of Ansel, why don't you secure that magazine interview? I wouldn't have had the chance to promote the company if Ansel hadn't fought for it!"

I was baffled.

Couture Chronicles was one of the most prestigious magazine publishers in the industry. I'd secretly called in favors with the owner just to secure a dedicated feature for the company, and how had that suddenly turned into Ansel's accomplishment?

"I worked hard and begged just to secure that Couture Chronicles interview. What does that have to do with Ansel?" I solemnly shot back.

She shot me a look of contempt and scorn. "It was Ansel who visited their office nearly a dozen times and begged before he finally landed the interview and photoshoot. He's far more useful than you'll ever be, while you're just a loser. Do you even get that?"

Ansel put on his best humble act. "I just wanted to ease your burden. It hurts me to see you frown and stress over it for days."

Watching them flirt like I didn't exist made my stomach churn, so I stepped aside and announced, "Jenna, I want a divorce."

There was no point in continuing this marriage anyway.

Jenna immediately agreed. "I'm fine with a divorce, but you're leaving with nothing, Elton."

I tensed slightly. "I spent years building Zest Summer Group with you, Jenna, and now you're telling me to walk away with nothing?"

So, that was it. She was going to toss me aside after I was no longer useful.

Her expression remained cold as she snorted and replied, "Incompetence is something you can't deny, and I've made the biggest compromise by letting you walk away with nothing. Just get the hell out if you don't like it."

With that, she wrapped her arms around Ansel's neck and eagerly pulled him toward the bedroom.

I turned and walked out without looking back. After booking a presidential suite at a hotel, I made two calls.

"Mitch, I'm pulling out of that 50-million-dollar order.

"Mom, hold on to that 300-million-dollar wedding gift you prepared for my wife."

On the grand opening day of my new company, Mom came to show her support. That was when she learned that I was divorced."Good riddance," she said. "A woman like her never deserved you anyway. I'll ask around among my friends and find you a proper lady from a good family."I placed some food on her plate and smiled. "No rush."Suddenly, Jenna charged in, dressed in tattered, filthy clothes. She tried to throw herself into my arms. "I'm so sorry, and I know I've messed up, Elton. Can we please get married again?"I shoved her away and irritatedly snapped, "Have you lost your mind? Why would I marry you again when I can't even stand the sight of you?"Mom was faster to react. She grabbed a kettle and dumped the water straight over Jenna's head. The latter shrieked and was immediately drenched from head to toe, while Mom slammed the kettle down in a rage."You've got a lot of nerve coming here to beg for a second chance. Where was this concern for his feelings when you were sleepin

A shocking piece of news dominated the viral headlines.Overnight, every single employee of Zest Summer Group resigned en masse. What used to be the office for hundreds of staff was now nothing but an empty building. To make matters worse, every reputable corporation and enterprise in Sccolt issued public statements announcing that they would never work with Zest Summer Group again. In just one night, Jenna fell from the heights of a high and mighty CEO to a social pariah. That was when Ansel decided to pack up and leave.Jenna grabbed his shirt like a madwoman and shrieked, "Where are you going? I wouldn't have divorced Elton and ended up in this mess if it weren't for you, Ansel. You ruined my life!"As the man who once doted on her every whim, he finally showed his true colors."You've got some nerve to blame me, don't you?" He sneered. "I thought you were actually capable, but you were just another hack who slept her way into the CEO's seat."I wouldn't have crossed the Gra

Madelyn's injuries were severe. She fell into a deep sleep after taking her medication, while Mitchell and I spent the entire night at the hospital, keeping watch. The next day, we arrived at the financial conference in full formal attire.Jenna stood on the stage, looking every bit the professional CEO as she presented grand plans for Zest Summer Group's future growth and extended partnership offers to other companies. She had no idea what was coming. The moment Mitchell stepped onto the stage, his first sentence into the microphone was "To every company in Sccolt, anyone who dares engage in business with Zest Summer Group is considered an enemy of the Grays."CEOs in the ballroom erupted in an uproar. Mitchell was known for being measured and professional, so this was the first time anyone had seen him target a company with such raw, direct hostility. Under the weight of scrutinizing stares, Jenna's face paled, and she spilled her red wine across her evening gown.Mitchell c

Mitchell shot Jenna and Ansel a cold look before he crouched down to check on Madelyn."What happened, Maddie? Why did they beat you up?"Through tears, she sobbed, "I came to ask Elton out for lunch, but they started calling me a mistress and swarmed forward to beat me up without even asking what's going on."I've just returned to Vandoria, Mitch, and this is my first time seeing Elton… "It hurts a lot… I need a doctor…""Don't worry. The doctors are here, so let's get you treated first."Mitchell's bodyguards helped her into a vehicle, where a medical team was waiting to examine her injuries.Though Mitchell's expression was calm, I could feel the fury swirling beneath his composed facade, reaching its peak.Ezra Hobbs rushed over and respectfully reported, "It's confirmed, Mr. Gray. The man is Ansel Meyer, a driver for Zest Summer Group, and the woman is Jenna Fletcher, the CEO. They're the ones who attacked Ms. Gray."While the general public had never seen the true face

The word "Mitch" snapped me back to my senses.I finally remembered that the young woman was Madelyn Gray, Mitchell Gray's little sister by six years, and the treasured jewel of the Grays. As a kid, she used to trail behind us all the time before she left to study in Cliveden. We'd never met in over a decade, and I never thought she'd grown into such a poised, elegant young woman. As for Ansel, the man who claimed to be close friends with Mitchell for years, he had failed to recognize the man standing right in front of him as the CEO of Aerowood Group, who'd just returned from Edrendale. To make matters worse, he'd just brutally beaten Mitchell's little sister."Call whoever you want! No matter who shows up, it doesn't change the fact that you seduced a married man!"Vicious and feral as ever, Jenna reached out to tear at Madelyn's dress. "You filthy slut! Today, I'm going to make you pay!"But a few female colleagues behind her backed away in terror and whispered among themselv

At the board meeting the next day, Ansel sat to Jenna's left. She beamed at the staff as she made her announcement. "I'm thrilled to share that Zest Summer Group has secured a 50-million-dollar partnership with Aerowood Group in the Edrendalian market. We owe this tremendous success to Ansel."The room erupted in thunderous applause as everyone rushed to suck up to Ansel.Amused, I asked, "And how exactly did Ansel close this deal?"I'd flown to Edrendale myself to meet Aerowood Group's CEO and finalized the partnership. He'd most likely sent the confirmation email today, so Ansel had the chance to swoop in and steal the credit.Jenna shot me a sharp glare, and her expression darkened. "Ansel met Aerowood Group's CEO, Mr. Gray, back when he was doing part-time work. They hit it off, and when Ansel knew that I was struggling with project funding, he racked his brain and convinced Mr. Gray just to work with us."Ansel puffed out his chest with a hint of guilt on his face. "I didn
