“Finally!”

The man who entered the room with her lawyer was wearing a tailored suit and was shaved.

That voice… She knew that voice!

“Hello!” he said again.

“Oh, my God!” she exclaimed. “I almost didn’t recognize you without your… stubble… What are you doing here?”

Norah was perplexed seeing Freddie in the same room, but she was also glad. Even if he was just her stepbrother.

“Norah!”

She almost stepped forward to hug him, but stopped, a grim sensation coming over her. This would’ve been his only reason to come to Italy so unexpectedly.

“Is David okay?”

“Dad is fine. He’s worried sick about you,” Freddie said, sending a hostile glance around the conference room. “Why haven’t you called him?”

“I... didn’t know what to say. You told him I was okay, didn’t you?”

“Are you? Really? What is this?”

Freddie waved at the conference table where red folders had been set in front of a handful of chairs.
