Nita’s POV.

His son. Nita’s heart pressed against her ribs. If she remembered clearly, she hadn't told him about her pregnancy. And she was sure to have kept her son's identity secret.

She blinked. “I've no idea what you're talking about. The only thing I owe you is my signature on the divorce papers.”

Nick glared at her. “I know whatever I did was wrong, but you wouldn't deny me the right to know my son, right?”

At that moment, Nita could hear Nate's voice in her head. His constant cry for ‘daddy.’ Yet, she couldn't forget how cold Nick had acted towards them. How he had thrown them away in their time of need.

He didn’t deserve Nate.

She shook her head, turning on her heels. “You don’t have a son with me, Mr. Grimm. Have a nice day.” Though her voice came out sharp, controlled. She was trembling within.

Before she could fall apart in his presence, she stormed back to her car and drove off. Her leg pressed on the accelerator.

How did he find out?

She pressed the speed, checking the side mirror to see if he was following her. She knew Nick Grimm. He wasn't a man who accepted no or someone making a decision for him. When she was sure no one was following, she forced herself to relax.

“Great. Just a day in the state, and secrets were already leaking out.” She said to herself

She parked her car, got out of the car, and started moving towards the room where she was staying with her son. She didn’t bother to spare the people around a glance. All her focus was on Nate.

She opened and closed the door in haste, certain no one was spying on her.

Nate sat on the sofa, his tablet pressed firmly in his hand as he shouted commands at it. “Come on! Get the enemy. Over there!” His voice echoed in the room, bringing a smile to Nita’s face.

This was his favorite pastime. It kept him busy. Nita didn’t know much about the game, but she had a feeling her son was leading.

He lifted his eyes, and when he saw Nita, he dropped the tab on the sofa. “Mummy!” He screamed, throwing himself in her arms.

“Baby!” Nita laughed, tickling his arms.

He fell into her hand, laughing harder.

Nate always made it easy for her to go out and come back at ease. He didn’t make her worried about always being busy, or maybe he was just used to it.

“How was the meeting?” He asked. It was his favorite thing to do - ask about his mother's day.

Nita removed her shirt, dropping it with carelessness on the sofa. “It was fine.” She moved towards the luggage she hadn't checked, as she had run to the office first.

She brought out her laptop and turned to Nate. “What do you like to have? Mummy will order in.”

Nate frowned.

Every little expression on his face never passed her notice. She bit her lower lip. “What happened, baby?”

Nate's eyes brightened. “I'm tired of orders. I want some homemade food. Back on the plane, all we ate was ordered, and now we will order. I missed Aunty Mia's food.”

It was just their first day away from Adonis, and Nate already missed it so much. The state was no longer her home. She had no family or friends to fall back on here.

She sighed, holding Nate's shoulder lightly. “Mummy promises to take you out tomorrow. I'll take you to a place where the meal feels like home. But today, let's order. Please.”

He paused as if he needed to think about it. Then, suddenly, he placed his little finger out for her. “Pinky promise.”

She smiled. “Pinky promise.”

Pinky promises were promises she mustn't break, no matter how busy she was.

Glad that he had secured her promise, he proceeded to tell her what he would love to eat. Immediately, Nita placed the order.

While they waited for their order, Nate told her how his day had gone. He had been busy with his online classes. He had tutors who spent two hours teaching him online.

Nita was hoping to register him in a physical school soon, but due to her job, she was always busy moving around. She needed to confirm a place she intended to settle down before making the decision.

She also planned on resigning as Cyborg to start a job that wouldn't be as time-consuming as hacking.

“I also sent a message to Aunty Mia letting her know that I am fine over here.”

Nita smiled at him. “That's good of you.”

It was a shame that even she, who was the adult, hadn't bothered to call Mia about their landing. The first thing she had thought of was work.

The ringing of the bell announced the arrival of their meal.

Nita picked the meal up and settled it in front of them. They both ate silently, and in a matter of minutes, they were done with the meal.

After the meal, Nate picked up his tablet and resumed the game he was engrossed in earlier.

Nita picked up her laptop and resumed her work. The earlier she knew what was wrong with Nicro Industries and whoever was letting out vital information about the company, the earlier she was bound to leave the state.

Never to see his face again.

She settled on the sofa, placing the laptop on her leg. She logged into the Nicro server under her username. Then her hand flew on the keyboard. Time was forgotten as she continued typing.

The theft was internal. One of their staff had planted a bug in the production department's laptop. Everything done on that laptop was immediately passed to the thief.

It was as if they had a live screen recording on the laptop. It was no wonder they could make exactly the product Nicro was planning to make, even before them.

She smiled, pushing her glasses right on her nose.

Just as she intended to check the bugs detail, a message popped up on her laptop.

The notification made her pause on the keys.

“Home has never been too far, darling. The house awaits its owner.”

Nita's POV Her hand hoovered on the keyboard as her eyes danced around the information she had gathered on James. He was a self made billionaire, who rose from the ashes like some sort of phoenix. They were numerous pictures of him doing philanthropic work in orphanages. But, there was something about his smile. Nita zoomed it in. They looked forced. She rubbed her eyes. The fatigue of the day and the lack of sleep was starting to get over her. She picked Jeremy's message.
