Nita had woken up earlier than normally; it was the first day she was going to the company to introduce herself. It was the reason she was in the state and she would love nothing than to be done with it as soon as possible.

She left Nate in Jimmy’s care, as they weren’t much he could do to be of help to her now. Yet, she had gotten him dress and took care of his meal herself; it was what she had always done. There was no way she was leaving her son to the care of a nanny. The only person she trusted Nate with was Flora, the maid that had followed her, but she hadn’t come with them to the state.

Nate had spared her a kiss on his cheek, “Good luck, Mummy. I’ll be a good boy.”

She smiled at his little promise before leaving the hotel.

The state had changed a bit, she wasn’t going to lie, but again it felt more like a foreign place to her, then where she had grown up. She couldn’t wait to be done and get back to Adonis.

Her phone beeped and she groaned, before picking it up with her other hand while one was still on the steering.

*Are you on your way already?*

She frowned at Mia’s text, before dropping her phone back. Due to the fact that she was driving, she could barely reply it and she hummed as she waited for her phone to beep again. Knowing Mia, she wasn’t going to rest until she knew Nita was there.

Her phone beeped, indicating a new message.

*Will you get on your ass and move, Cyborg? This is a big deal.”

Nita rolled her eyes; as if she doesn’t know. It was the only reason she came to the state.

She didn’t respond again and this time, instead of a message, Mia decided to call her. Nita picked up using free hand.

“Where exactly are you? Still in bed drooling over, Nate?” Her voice sounded a bit shaky. Ever since Mia was made temporary general manager of their organization, she had been on the edge. She was still on probation and would do anything to attain the position permanently, including grilling her best friend.

“Do you know you can be so extra at times, Mia? I’m already on my way.”

She heard her sigh in relief, “Great. I’m so sorry, but you know how you can be when it comes to an on-site job. The boards are on my neck and you’re the only one that can help me right now.”

Nita knew that; it was the only reason she had come to the state even though it was the last thing she wanted. Mia had stood by her in her trying times and the least she could do was help her achieve her dream of becoming the head of their organization.

“Don’t worry, Mia. I got your back, as long as the C.E.O already promised to keep my identity hidden for as long as I work there.”

“Of course, no one will know you’re Cyborg. To them, you’re just an average programmer like the rest.”

She imagined Mia smiling after achieving her goal which reminded her of the question she had for Mia.

“I just remembered something. Why did you tell Nate his father lives in the state?”

Mia groaned, “I’m sorry, Nita. I think I was drunk when Nate grilled me. I didn’t mean to spill.”

She rolled her eyes again, “What did I tell you about drinking too much? Now you have me on the hook answering questions I prefer to stay away from.”

Finally, she could see the company from a distance, “Okay, Mia. I got to go. Duty calls.”

Mia sighed; probably glad to be off the hook. “Good luck, Nita. Although, I know Cyborg barely needs that, but I can’t help but say it.”

Before Nita could come up with a response, the phone beeped indicating Mia had hung up. Nita sighed. This was it.

She drove into the car park, and took three deep breaths before leaving the car.

The building was as exquisite as Mia had told her, but she had no idea where she was going. Someone might have thought one of the company’s officials would be there to show her the way to her new office.

She stopped at the receptionist. The woman was focused on whatever she was doing that she barely gave Nita a glance even when she greeted her three times. It wasn’t until Nita knocked on her table before she lifted her head up to give her a little attention.

Nita forced a smile on her lips, “Good day, ma. I’m Nita Green, the new programmer hired.”

The woman barely lifted her head up, “Oh. How can I help you Ms. Green?”

Her head was back in whatever she was typing.

Nita blinked at her rudeness, “I’ll need a direction to my new office or probably to the HR department.”

The woman nodded before giving her the direction. Nita needed to ask again to be sure as she wasn’t coherent with her wordings.

Thankfully, the company wasn’t that difficult to navigate or she might have gotten herself lost due to the bad direction given to her. Everyone seemed busy, so there was no one to ask about the direction to the HR department.

Nita moved effortlessly among the sea of people running around with folders and files. Everyone seemed not to notice the stranger among them.

She continued walking until she saw the sign of HR Manager at the door. She moved closer to open it when she heard voices from inside.

“I heard the C.E.O got some mediocre programmer to come solve this issue.”

A sigh.

“I’ve no idea what the C.E.O is thinking, but I am glad he isn’t available on seat right now. We only need to do all we can to send this programmer away and get Cyborg to come work here. It’s only Cyborg that can help deal with this issue.”

“And do you think Cyborg will come over here?”

Nita had no way of identifying who or who was talking, but she knew Nita Green wasn’t welcome in this company.

She was about to open the door when she heard another voice, “We need to do all we can to make her quit in a week. I heard Cyborg is in the state. We can’t miss this opportunity because of some novice programmer.”

“How come there’s no information on the bastard who sent me that text?” Nick roared at his assistant. Joel stepped back, hoping to avoid whatever his boss might throw next. He had never seen Nick in this kind of mood before – it was shocking. Nick slowly inhaled and exhaled before turning to face him, “Do whatever it takes. I want to know who this person is. I told you before – I want the best on this job.”Joel nodded quickly, “Of course, Sir. I’ll bring positive response.”He scurried out of the office before Nick’s temper exploded any further. Nick watched Joel gently close the door, then sank into his chair. This was the first time Joel had ever delayed delivering on a job – it had never happened before. Joel was the fastest assistant he’d ever had, which was why he’d kept him for so long. If even Joel was struggling to find this person, then whoever they were, they were deeply hidden. He picked up his phone and dialed a number. The call was picked up immediately. “Hello, Nic

It was difficult for Nick to get a good night sleep; the fact that his family was just few rooms away from him, and he couldn’t hold them made him sigh. Normally, he found it hard to sleep, but at that moment, it seemed more difficult to sleep.Instead of trying to sleep, he picked up his laptop. Just then an email dropped in his inbox. Joel had sent every piece of information on Sam Moore. Nick took his time devouring the information. There was nothing special about Sam Moore: he was just like the regular asshole Nick had dealt with in the past. Nita wasn’t the first girl he had tried to deceive, but she was the last he could. If not for the text message he had received, he would have easily thought Sam was just unfortunate. But he knew that wasn’t the case. Someone had murdered Sam intentionally, and it was because of Nita. He closed his laptop running his hand through his hair. Joel was yet to send anything about the person who had sent him the message, which means the person was

“I want the best on this.” Nick’s voice stayed harsh even though he didn’t mean for it to be. He clenched and unclenched his fist. There were hardly things that could get him easily upset, but this did. The idea that someone out there had the audacity to threaten him to stay away from his wife didn’t sit right, What made it worse was the fact that this person had access to his private number. He could count the number of people who had his private number. So, whoever this was. The person was highly informed. He picked his phone to read the text again. STAY AWAY FROM NITA OR YOU’LL END UP LIKE SAM MOORE.He sighed. He knew who Sam Moore was: it was that fool that thought he could blackmail Nita and had ended up getting himself killed. Nick chuckled. Whoever sent this wasn’t just issuing a threat – they were promising death. If the person thought he was powerful enough to kill him, then he had to be one of the best at what he does. “You don’t need to waste resources searching low

“He doesn’t eat carrot.” Nita said, picking out the orange pieces in Nate’s food.Nick chuckled as he opened his own plate. “I don’t eat carrot either.” He showed his food to Nita and she scowled.“I thought vegetables were good for his growth, which was why I asked them to add some to his.”Nita frowned. She had learned too late that Nate was allergic to carrots. She didn’t have allergies, so she had wondered why her son had one – until she was able to learn that he took after his father. That sucked. The last thing she wanted was to acknowledge Nick as his father not to talk of inheriting anything from him.Nick smiled, “I’ll ring one of the maids to bring another meal for him. You don’t have to remove the carrots.” Before she could protest, he was already on the phone. Nita hated how quickly things happened at his command. More than that, she hated that he was making an effort to look good in front of their son. What happened to his carefree attitude? What happened to when he prefe

She hated him. She hated him with all her being. If he thought he could waltz in and out of their lives at his own convenience, then he must be joking. She ignored Nate’s pleading and waited for Jimmy’s message. The moment her phone beeped with an address, she grabbed her suitcase. “Let’s go, Nate.”Nate frowned, “I thought we were staying with Uncle Nick, mummy.” His face fell into that puppy look that had always gotten Nita to do anything for him. But this time, she wouldn’t fall for it - not when Nick was involved.“No! We can’t impose on a stranger, Nate.”Nick stood there, arms crossed, smirking like he had the upper hand, “So, you are just going to run away again. You’re going to run like five years ago.”She stopped, turned towards him and said with clenched teeth, “I’m not running. I’m just doing what I think is right.”Nick nodded, stepping closer. “And that’s avoiding what you are supposed to do?”Their eyes locked, the air between them thick with unspoken words. Nate clea

It was a bold move, one that warranted a smirk from Nick as he stared at her with that look that sent shivers down her spine. “I thought I already said I want you back.” Nita scoffed, trying to keep her voice steady, “If I remember clearly, you were the one eager for a divorce then.” “A mistake I am ready to rectify.” His voice was ever steady and clear. “I can show you what I mean,” he trailed his hand down her arm making her breath seize. Nita held her breath; she was going to pretend as if whatever he did wouldn't affect her. He no longer affects her like he wanted. But his hand moved lower than her arm, straying towards her leg. Nita pulled back, cutting off every link between them, “I don’t care what you mean. All I want is a divorce.” He stared at her as if he was trying to read her soul and know every little thing going on in her mind, “Well, it’s a pity we all don’t get what we want.” He moved further in and dropped on the bed. Nita stared between him and the door; she was
