When was the last time I slept THAT good? Whitney thought to herself drowsily the next morning as she rubbed the sleep from her light brown eyes with a quiet yawn. Hues of decadent yellow, pink, and orange bounced off the hotel room walls; signalling the rise of a new day. Never one to be up at 7 A.M, she took in it’s radiant beauty with stunned gratitude.

All was quiet, including the vulnerable woman she’d loved endlessly for almost an entire year. Whitney could hear Hollis’ quiet breathing as each inhale and exhale left her chest, adding to the overall tranquility that fell over their little world- consisting of just the two of them, in a private space pretty far away from everyone they knew.

Their last morning in New York. A slow, building dread washed over Whitney with the realization. She never wanted to leave, but it was for a far graver reason than it should have been.
