Chapter Five

Alex’s pov

I sat beside her bedside the whole night, watching and waiting for any improvement. The pack doctors were doing everything they could, but since she hadn’t received any care and had been starved and was beyond exhausted, it wasn’t clear how long it would take for Victoria to recover. Her wolf must have been extremely weak since having a wolf makes us heal a lot faster.

I wanted to kill whoever had done this to my mate. I didn’t care that she was an omega. She was my mate.

Alpha Evans was full of sorry-arse excuses as to why his pack thought it perfectly ok to harm such a young female.

My eyes widened with shock as I saw the true extent of her injuries. The council of elders would not be happy with this at all. My main concern was to ensure my mate got better. Austin, my wolf, was getting increasingly difficult to hold back. He was so angry that our mate could be treated so poorly. I wanted to scoop her into my arms and take her back to my pack m, away from these animals.

My Beta came rushing through the doors, out of breath and full of concern until he spotted me sitting beside my mate.

“Thank Goddess, you’re here. We’ve been trying to link but couldn’t get through.” He sighed with relief.

“I put the block up. Couldn’t take all the questions.” I informed him, to which he nodded, understanding my view.

“How is she doing?” He questioned, looking at my mate on the bed covered in tubes and wires.

I let out a heavy sigh and explained what the doctor had said.

“We need to get her back. She’s not staying here.” I insisted. “Get Evans and tell him we need to discuss things.”

My beta nodded and went on his way to speak with the alpha. I didn’t want to see his face knowing how he allowed his omegas to be treated, but things needed to be sorted.

Ten minutes later, I entered the office of the alpha Evans.

“Leave,” I growled as his Luna, beta and daughter sat in the room.

“But.. I .. oh, Daddy, tell him he has to choose me. I was promised.. !” His daughter Eliza whined. Her father turned his gaze to his daughter, and I watched as he flared his nostrils.

“You will do as I say. Now be gone!” He roared, causing them to rush out of the room.

I raised an eyebrow at the alpha and watched as he hit up to close the door, giving us some privacy. He walked over to a small cabinet that consisted of glasses and alcohol. The rumours of him being an alcoholic made me wonder if there was any truth in it.

“Alex.” He started as he threw back a drink.

“I want nothing to do with this pack. I am taking my mate and leaving this circus.”

I snarled in disgust as he threw back yet another glass.

He sat back in his black leather chair and stroked his beard, staring at me coldly. Then his lips pointed upwards into a smile, and he laughed loudly.

“You would prefer an omega girl over my daughter for your Luna. Is that so?”

“Victoria is who the moon goddess paired me to. I need to respect that and honour it.” I told him, placing both hands on his desk and challenging him to contest it.

When he didn’t, I sat back in my seat, not taking my eyes off him.

He rubbed his brow and sighed.

“Alpha Alex, you don’t understand.”

“Then tell me. Tell me what I don’t understand.”

He opened a drawer of paperwork and ruffled through them until he came to whatever he was searching for.

He handed it to me, and I stared at the file.

Victorias file.

“Her mother was a traitor, and her father left when she was five. Nobody wanted to take an orphan in, so my Luna decided she could stay in the omega lodge. She’s fortunate she wasn’t banished to the rogues.” He stated, causing Austin to push forward and let out an angry growl.

Alpha Evans let out a chuckle. “Take her if that’s what you want. But know that you're making a huge mistake. She’s not fit to be a Luna. When you realise that, perhaps we can discuss you taking my daughter's hand as Luna for a good price.”

This guy was serious; I couldn’t believe it. He would sell his daughter to ensure his own pack's safety.

I was about to shift and let Austin rip his head off his arrogant shoulders, but a knock at the door sent my mind into overdrive.

“Alpha. Alpha. You have to come quickly. She’s awake.”
