Chapter Six

I heard the sound of beeping machines and muffled voices around me. I wanted to open my eyes severely, but they felt heavy and wouldn’t open. I don’t know where I was or how I ended up here. I was afraid to know, unsure of what fresh hell awaited me. Perhaps my loyal beaters were watching me, hell-bent on ruining me even more if that was possible.

I heard a loud thud as what sounded like a door opening and footsteps nearing me. I lay still, waiting for more slaps or punches to wash over my already beaten body.

Strangely it felt like some electric shot hurtled as someone entwined their fingers into mine. Inside my head, I was screaming, the sweet smell of chocolate and ginger filled my nostrils, but I couldn’t see the person beside me. I knew it was my mate.

My eyelids fluttered open after what seemed like a century; the bright blinding light made me squint and screw my face up. I groaned as my body ached, and I was a tangled mess of wires.

“Miss Victoria. You’re awake.” I heard an unfamiliar tone exclaim. The relief in her voice made me frown because nobody had been bothered by my existence before now.

So I was in the hospital.

“Is she going to be ok?” A divine voice spoke, making me gasp at the sight of him. No way. He couldn’t be my mate.

“Mate.” I heard a voice scream in the back of my mind. Was I high on pain relief?

“I am here, Victoria. My name is El. I have always been with you but too weak to come forward. I am getting stronger every day. We are one.”

I blinked and rubbed my head. I was dreaming about this. Wasn’t I?

That voice could not be in the back of my head. I did not have a wolf. I was nothing but a stupid omega.

I tried to sit up, causing the godly figure in front of me to rush to my side. He placed his hands on mine, and I felt a surge of electricity flush through my body. I gasped and looked up, meeting his gaze. Our eyes locked, and I heard myself whimper and then howl.

“Mate.”

He nodded.

“Yes, my dear. We are mates.”

I wanted to cry.

“But, I am just an omega girl. Please get on with your rejection.” I said sadly.

He looked puzzled and scratched the back of his head. I saw him turn to someone behind him, and they exchanged confused glances. I had no idea who this person with him was.

“Why would I reject you?” He finally turned to me and said.

I started to cry. I could not help myself.

“Why would I reject you? We are mates. Tell me why.” He demanded to know.

“I am an omega. They say my mother was banished. I have been an omega for as long as I can remember.” I told him and felt shame wash over me as I twiddled with my fingers.

He let out a low growl and caused me to recoil into the corner of the bed.

“Victoria, I assure you that I will do nothing. Those who have harmed you in any way will be dealt with accordingly. Mark my words.” He said, leaning over to kiss my forehead.
