"SOME PEOPLE LEAVE MARKS YOU CAN SEE. OTHERS LEAVE THE KIND THAT SIT QUIETLY INSIDE YOUR CHEST AND REFUSE TO HEAL."

STELLA

My body ached before I even opened my eyes. Every muscle protested as I shifted under the heavy silk sheets. The soreness between my legs was deep and constant, a reminder of how roughly Derek had taken me. The room was still dark, the storm reduced to a dull patter against the windows. Dawn hadn’t arrived yet. Good. I needed to be gone before he woke up properly.

I slid out of the bed slowly, biting back a whimper when my bruised hips brushed the edge of the mattress. My legs felt unsteady. I found the silk robe on the floor and pulled it on with shaking hands, tying it tight. Every movement made me aware of the marks he’d left—fingerprints on my thighs, a bite on my neck, the raw ache inside.

I took one step toward the door.

An arm snaked around my waist and yanked me back.

He didn't open his eyes. He was still more asleep than awake, I could tell by the looseness of his grip, the way his breathing hadn't changed. But his hand held on with the unconscious certainty of someone who had decided something and hadn't bothered to inform his brain about it yet. A long moment passed.

"Tonight too," he muttered. Then his hand loosened and he turned onto his side and the slow breathing resumed like nothing had happened at all. I stood there in the dark beside his bed for three full seconds, heart hammering, before I gathered the silk from the floor and walked to the door on silent feet and let myself out.

Lady Valentina was in the corridor.

Of course she was. Dressed already, composed already, not a strand of gold hair out of place despite the hour. She looked at me the way a woman looks at an invoice she is checking for errors — quick, methodical, thorough. Her eyes moved across my throat, my wrists, the careful way I was holding myself.

"Did he say anything?" she asked.

"No."

Her gaze snagged on the bruising along my collarbone. Something moved across her expression and I braced for it — sympathy, guilt, some acknowledgment that what she had arranged was not a small thing to ask of another person.

Instead her shoulders dropped slightly. The tension she had been carrying since I walked out that door released itself in one quiet exhale. She looked, unmistakably, relieved. Not for me. For herself. The relief of a woman who had just confirmed that someone else had absorbed something she had been dreading.

She reached into her pocket without a word and held out a small glass vial. A pregnancy medicine. Clear liquid, faintly bitter smelling even from a distance.

I took it.

She smoothed the front of her dress and walked back toward her chambers. No thank you. No acknowledgment of what the night had cost. Just the soft sound of her door closing behind her and the empty corridor and the vial cold in my palm.

I stood there for a moment in the dim hallway and swallowed it alone.

To Alpha Derek, I was just Valentina acting differently in the dark—more responsive, wetter, louder. A better toy. The thought made my chest tight with shame and exhaustion as I slipped away to the servants’ quarters.

The day dragged like a punishment. I moved through my usual duties with gritted teeth. Cleaning, carrying trays, keeping my head down. Every step reminded me of him. The deep ache, the way my thighs rubbed together. I flinched when I bent to pick up broken glass in the east wing, a sharp pain shooting through my core.

By afternoon, I heard the whispers from the other maids.

“Alpha Derek seems… off today.”

“He keeps watching Lady Valentina like he’s waiting for something.”

I kept my face blank, scrubbing the floor harder. Of course he was irritated. The real Valentina had been her usual cold, distant self all day—polite smiles, perfect posture, zero fire. Nothing like the woman who had moaned and clenched shamefully around him last night. He wanted that version again. And he had no idea she only existed when I took her place.

Night fell too quickly.

I was wiping down a marble console table near the grand staircase when the atmosphere in the palace changed. Servants froze mid-step. Voices dropped to fearful murmurs.

“He’s back.”

“Alpha Damien returned an hour ago.”

The name alone sucked the warmth from the air. I kept working, but my hands trembled. Everyone lowered their heads as heavy footsteps echoed through the entrance hall. Even the guards seemed smaller. I shouldn’t have looked.

But I did.

Alpha Damien stood in the center of the hall, tall and unnaturally still. His dark coat clung to broad shoulders, rain dripping from it onto the polished floor. Power rolled off him in heavy waves—cold, oppressive, like the moment before lightning struck. Not the burning heat of Derek’s presence. This was something darker. Something that felt like violence wrapped in perfect control.

He started walking forward. Everyone bowed deeper. My stupid, exhausted body didn’t move fast enough. For one second, my gaze lifted and met his. His steps faltered.

Those eyes—dark, piercing—locked onto mine. The air thickened. Something shifted in his expression, a tiny crack in that icy mask. I dropped my head immediately, heart hammering against my ribs. My fingers gripped the cleaning cloth until my knuckles hurt. Alpha Damien stood frozen for another heartbeat. Then he continued walking, but the tension in the hall had doubled. I felt his eyes on me even as he moved past, burning into the back of my neck.

I didn’t dare look up again.

But I knew, deep in my bones, that with Alpha Damien returning to the Nightwing pack he must have returned because of something very important and it was either good or bad–very–very bad.

  • ONCE A SUBSTITUTE FOR THE LUNA NOW THE DEMON ALPHA'S BRIDE   PLEASE DON'T MARRY ANYONE

DAMIENDamien's eyes dropped to where my fingers hovered, so close to the thick, obvious strain in his soaked trousers. For a second his expression went completely unguarded, hunger and restraint and something almost desperate all mixed together at once, like he was fighting himself just to stay still."Fuck, Stella…" His voice came out rough, low, scraped raw at the edges. He caught my wrist gently before I could touch him, his grip firm but careful, like he didn't fully trust himself to let go. "As much as I would love that, we can't right now. You're already shivering. We have to get somewhere warm." The waterfall still crashed around us, cold water streaming down our bodies in endless sheets. Only then did I notice how hard I was trembling, and it wasn't just from the aftershocks of what his fingers had done to me. The chill had finally started sinking into my bones, turning my trembling into something closer to shivering.I swallowed, disappointment and relief tangled together in

  • ONCE A SUBSTITUTE FOR THE LUNA NOW THE DEMON ALPHA'S BRIDE   UNDER THE FALLS~~

STELLA“I want you.” My voice shook. “Please. Touch me.”Damien’s eyes darkened until the blue was almost gone. Water thundered down around us, a constant silver curtain that soaked everything it touched. It streamed over his hair, plastering the strands to his forehead and the sharp cut of his cheekbones. His white shirt clung to him like a second skin—translucent now, outlining every hard plane of his chest, the ridges of his abdomen, the broad strength of his shoulders. The fabric stuck to the defined lines of his arms. He looked devastating. Beautiful in a way that made my stomach tighten and my pulse race harder. I didn’t understand why I loved this so much. Why the idea of his hands on me felt like something I had been starving for without realizing it. Why the careful way he looked at me, like my pleasure was the only thing that mattered—made my chest ache even as heat pooled low in my belly. He wasn’t just trying to use my body to get off.He was watching me. Learning me.

  • ONCE A SUBSTITUTE FOR THE LUNA NOW THE DEMON ALPHA'S BRIDE   "PLEASE TOUCH ME"

STELLAFor a moment I forgot how to breathe. The mountain opened before us, revealing something I could hardly believe was real, a scene so vivid it looked like it belonged in a painting rather than in front of me. Water thundered down from the cliffs above, spilling into a crystal-clear pool below. Mist floated through the air, catching the sunlight filtering between the trees. Wildflowers grew along the edges, their colors scattered across the green like someone had painted them there. It was extraordinary. It was beautiful. No. Beautiful wasn't enough. It was breathtaking. I had read about places like this in books. I had heard people describe hidden valleys and waterfalls so beautiful they seemed untouched by the world. But I had never imagined I would actually stand in one.I slowly climbed down from the horse. "Damien"He dismounted behind me. I barely noticed. I couldn't take my eyes off the waterfall."You like it?"I nodded. "I've never seen anything like this.""I thought yo

DAMIEN. I had no idea why I wanted to know everything about Stella. It had started with small things. What she liked to eat.. What made her laugh, and what made her go quiet and uncomfortable instead. What made her relax enough to forget, even for a moment, that she was supposed to be careful around me.Lately, though, the questions had shifted into something more dangerous. What did she like? What made her lean closer instead of pulling away? Where did she like to be touched? Those questions had become harder and harder to ignore, especially after our kiss. I wanted to kiss her again. I wanted to know what would happen if I let myself do more than that. But I wouldn't. Not until I was certain she wanted it too. Stella was still tense around me sometimes, and I'd noticed it getting worse since Derek arrived. She'd been relaxed before my brother showed up. Then the moment his name was mentioned, something in her shifted. Her shoulders stiffened. Her heartbeat picked up, quick and unev

STELLAHe kissed me. The thought wouldn't leave my mind. Even after Damien disappeared down the corridor, I remained exactly where he had left me, staring at the empty space in front of me like he might somehow still be standing there. My fingertips slowly rose to my lips. They were still warm.I swallowed. What had I just done? I had kissed Alpha Damien. No. Worse. I had kissed him back.I squeezed my eyes shut. "Get yourself together, Stella." I lowered my hands and took a deep breath. I needed to remember who I was. I was here for a purpose. I was here because I had made a promise to the Queen. I was here because I needed to understand what Damien intended to do about Raventooth. I wasn't here to lose my mind because a man had kissed me. Especially not a man like Damien.I turned to head upstairs. Then I heard footsteps. I froze. My heart immediately jumped. For one ridiculous second I thought Damien had returned. I looked down the corridor. And my blood ran cold.Derek. He was wal

  • ONCE A SUBSTITUTE FOR THE LUNA NOW THE DEMON ALPHA'S BRIDE   SHE WAS NEVER MINE TO LOSE

DEREKI couldn't stop thinking about her. That was the problem. I had tried. God knew I had tried. I had sent women away, one after another, each dismissal feeling more pointless than the last. I had refused Valentina when she tried to distract me. I had even convinced myself that what I felt was nothing more than irritation, a passing annoyance that would fade the moment I stopped indulging it. But every time I closed my eyes I saw Stella. Her face. Her eyes. The way she had looked at me when I found her in Damien's house, steady and unafraid in a way that had stayed with me far longer than it should have. And, most irritatingly of all, the way she had spoken to me. As though I were no different from anyone else. As though she wasn't impressed by my title. As though she wasn't afraid of me. She had even stepped on my foot.My jaw tightened at the memory. "That little—" I stopped myself. The door opened. Valentina stepped inside. I didn't bother looking at her."Another woman is waiti
