B I A N C A

"Natalia is back. And I’m making her my wife."

My spoon froze halfway between the bowl and my mouth. I stared at Lucas, the seriousness in his eyes as he spoke those words like it was the simplest thing in the world. Realization suddenly hit me like a bucket of ice water, I had made a grave mistake.

Lucas and I have been together for three years. I met him at the lowest point of my life, and he had given me the stability I had craved so much. I thought I had found my forever in him.

Stupid me even thought he was going to propose when I found a beautiful ring in his jacket pocket this morning. I made every preparation to say yes, made his favorite for dinner, wore a beautiful red dress. But instead of being proposed to, he wants to get back with his first love who had gone abroad three years ago for treatment after being diagnosed with cancer, and he wants to marry her.

"H-how can you?" I stammered, my heart clenching so painfully in my chest. "You are going to leave me, after everything we have been through. Why?"

"I’m not going to leave you. We have been together for three years now, I can’t just let you go. But Natalia has been a big part of my life, she was my first love. I can still see a future with her. That’s why I’m giving you a choice. You can stay with me. Be my mistress. I will provide you with anything you want. Natalia’s health is fragile, she won’t have a problem with this."

I scoffed, willing myself not to cry. "And I’m supposed to thank her for that? For giving me the chance to be your whore, since she’s too weak to satisfy your needs?"

Lucas had the decency to look ashamed.

"You’re being unreasonable," he said, "You barely have anything to your name, not even your meager salary can cover your rent in New York City. If you are left alone, you will be homeless by the end of the month. If you stay with me, I’ll take care of all your financial needs and you won't have to worry about a thing. Only a dumb person would say no to my offer. This is a golden opportunity for you. Women like you don’t have a choice.”

A lump formed in my throat, the food tasting like ash on my tongue. I forced myself to swallow it down. I couldn’t speak, couldn't do anything but sit there and listen as Lucas calmly explained to me why I should let him cheat on me and become his side bitch.

He sat closer to me, placing his arm around my shoulders, and stroked my cheek tenderly with his other hand.

"Don't feel bad, darling," he whispered in my ear, "Many women would kill to have your place. And I will take good care of you. All you have to do is to follow a few rules, and everything will be perfect. But for now, I have to leave. I have to go pick Natalia up from the airport. Don’t miss me too much, baby girl."

I heard him put his jacket on and opened the door. "Oh and before I forget, here is your paycheck for the month," he said, placing an envelope on the dining table, "You deserve it, darling."

With a soft click, he was gone.

I sat in silence, staring blankly at the envelope containing my paycheck, not quite knowing how to react. Anger clouded my mind, angry at myself for letting this happen, angry at him for making me feel like I had no choice.

I looked down at the table of food made with so much love. I packed the food and threw it into the trash can, taking off my dress in my bedroom like it burned my skin. I felt so disgusted.

The hot water of the shower pelted down on my skin, washing away my body. But it did nothing to wash away the disgust I felt towards myself.

The steam cleared, and my reflection stared back at me in the mirror. I walked back into the room and my phone buzzed on the bed.

I picked it up, and the headline was the first thing I noticed: Notorious Bachelor Lucas Hart, 29, proposes to his first love and childhood sweetheart, Natalia Rossi!

My heart broke as I saw the picture of Lucas proposing to Natalia on one knee, the same ring I found in his jacket pocket, in the photo being slid onto her finger. The camera zoomed in on Natalia’s face and a gasp escaped my lips. It was like staring at myself, but a thinner, sicklier version of me.

Tears blurred my vision as the reality of what had just happened washed over me, the truth of his betrayal slapping me in the face. I was never going to be his wife, I was the closest thing to the love of his life. He had only been with me because of how similar I looked to her. A mere substitute.

A bitter laugh bubbled out of my throat. How stupid I had been. To think he had genuinely loved me. He had wanted me to be her. That’s why he made dye my hair blonde from its dark brown like hers, why he had persuaded me to grow my hair long like hers.

I picked up a pair of scissors and walked back into the bathroom. My hand was shaking, but I brought the scissors to the ends of my hair. I didn't stop until the long blonde strands lay scattered on the floor.

I picked up my phone and dialed a number I hadn’t called in three years.

"Bianca," My father’s voice answered, "To what do I owe this sudden call?"

I mustered all the courage in my body and spoke.

"Dad," I said, "I accept. I will come back home for the arranged marriage and take back what’s mine."

"I should have never left. I was stupid and naive and I should have never disobeyed you. Now, it's time to return home and take back my inheritance."

C H L O EI have been staying over at Marco’s place for almost a week and it has been the best. What was supposed to be a little visit has turned into a temporary move. I was supposed to leave yesterday morning but I never did.I couldn't bring myself to. He's been taking care of me, making sure I eat and holding me at night. He hasn't brought up Xavier again and for that, I'm grateful.I'm healing, but the pain is still there.I was in the kitchen making coffee when Marco came up behind me, wrapping his arms around my waist."Morning, beautiful," he said, nuzzling my neck."Morning," I said, leaning back into his embrace. "What do you want for breakfast?""You," he said, his voice husky with desire.I laughed, turning around in his arms to face him. "You're a menace.""You love it," he said, leaning down to kiss me. As we kissed, I felt something hard pressing against my stomach. I pulled away, a sly smile on my face."Is that a gun in your pocket or are you just too happy to see me

B I A N C ADamian placed a blindfold over my eyes. "You'll see when we get there. The suspense is half the fun.""Fine," I huffed, a smile playing on my lips. "But if I trip and fall in these heels, you're carrying me the rest of the way.""Deal," he chuckled, guiding me out of the house and into the car.The drive was silent, my mind was racing with possibilities. Where could he be taking me? Damian was so damn good at surprises that you can never tell with him. After what felt like an eternity, the car came to a stop. He came around to my side and opened the door, helping me out."Okay," he said, taking my hand in his. "A few more steps."He led me across a grassy area, the scent of fresh air and blooming flowers filling my senses."Ready?" he asked again, his voice soft.I nodded, my heart pounding in anticipation. He slowly untied the blindfold, and my breath caught in my throat. We were standing in front the of the biggest house I’ve ever seen. It had a huge gate with a ‘The Mo

B I A N C A"Did he take advantage of you?" I asked, my anger rising. If Marco hurt my best friend, family or not, I would skin him alive."No," she said, her voice firm. "No, it wasn't like that. I kissed him. I wanted it. I needed it. I needed to feel something other than pain.""And he… he went along with it? After everything? After he knows how vulnerable you are?""He tried to talk me out of it," she admitted. "He said he didn't want to be a rebound. But I insisted. I told him I was a single woman and I was free to do whatever I wanted."I let out a frustrated sigh, running a hand through my hair. This was a mess. A complete and utter mess. And if seemed like mess wasn’t only in my own life, but now my best friend’s too."And you don't regret it? You don't feel guilty?""I don't know," she said, her voice honest. "I should, but I don't. It felt… right. Being with him.""I don't know what to say, Chlo," I said, shaking my head. I was angry at Xavier for hurting her, angry at Marco

B I A N C AIt’s been two days since the whole incident with Elijah, and the house has never felt so quiet. We have extra security now, thanks to Damian, but it doesn't stop the chill that runs down my spine every time I hear a strange noise.Damian had been distant since then, lost in thought. He would stare at the wall for hours, his mind a million miles away. I knew he was blaming himself, and it broke my heart to see him in so much pain."Are you okay?" I asked, walking into the living room where he was sitting on the couch, staring out the window. He looked up at me, his eyes tired and filled with sadness. "I'm fine," he lied. "Just tired."I sat down next to him, taking his hand in mine. "You're not fine, Damian. You haven't been fine since Elijah showed up. Please, talk to me. I can't help you if you don't let me in."He let out a heavy sigh, running a hand through his hair. "I don't know what to say, Bianca. I'm... lost. I feel like I'm failing at everything. As a husband, as

C H L O EHe looked at me, his eyes darkening with desire. He leaned in, his lips hovering just inches from mine. I could feel the heat radiating from his body, the scent of his cologne filling my senses."Chloe, I’m not going to be your rebound," he said, his voice low and husky. "I want more than that. I want all of you. I want to be the one you run to, not the one you run to when you're hurt. I'm not a placeholder.""Oh shut up, Marco." I said, closing the distance between us and crushing my lips against his. He didn't pull away. Instead, he kissed me back with a hunger that mirrored my own.His lips were soft and demanding, just like I remembered. One year of not knowing what I had been missing. He pulled me onto his lap, his hands tangling in my hair. I wrapped my arms around his neck, deepening the kiss.It was desperate and hungry. All the suppressed longing, it all poured into this one kiss. My hands roamed over his chest, feeling the solid muscle beneath his shirt. His grip ti

C H L O EI sat on my couch, hugging a pillow to my chest as I stared blankly at the television. The sounds of the sitcom playing filled the room, but I wasn't really watching it. My mind was a million miles away, replaying the events of the afternoon over and over again in my head.I couldn't believe it. I couldn't believe it was over. A year of my life, gone. Just like that. I had invested so much of myself into that relationship, so much of my heart and soul. And for what? For it to end in betrayal and deceit?I felt so stupid. So naive. How could I have been so blind? How could I not have seen the signs? The late nights at the office, the sudden ‘business trips’, the weirdness around his cousin. It was all so clear now.Marco had dropped me off at my apartment and offered to stay, but I told him I wanted to be alone. I needed to process everything, to wrap my head around what had happened. I needed to grieve the loss of my relationship in private. But as I sat there, alone in my a
