The sound of the doorbell jolted me awake.

Damian was already out of bed, pulling on a pair of pants. "It's okay," he said. "Just stay here. I'll get it."

I nodded, blowing him a kiss. "Be careful."

He gave me a reassuring smile, then left the room. I heard him walk down the stairs, his footsteps echoing in the house.

I started hearing hushed voices. Damian's and a woman's. I couldn't make out what they were saying, but there was something about her voice that sounded familiar.

B I A N C AThe car pulled to a stop in my family estate’s parking garage, where we would be having a full feast family dinner with my family and Damian’s family. I had met his uncle, uncle Vittorio multiple times as he was a close friend of my father. Uncle Vittorio, who was more of a father than an Uncle to Damian after their parents died. But the rest of Damian’s family, which were his two sisters, I had only seen them on pictures. I was quite nervous to meet them. I had heard a lot about them from Damian. His older sister, Angela, was a lawyer who was married with two kids. While the younger sister, Camilla, was a free spirited artist who had a tendency to get herself into trouble.I took a deep breath and smoothed down my dress, as I prepared myself for the evening ahead. I wanted to make a good impression. But, I also needed to be myself, because if they are anything like Damian, they’d be able to see right through a fake persona.Damian seemed to sense my anxiety, because he

B I A N C AAnd just like that, our little bubble of happiness for a few days was over. We were on the private jet, flying back to reality. To the war.I was looking out the window, watching the clouds drift by. I couldn’t believe how fast our little getaway was over. I was going to miss the sun, the sand, the privacy. But most of all, I was going to miss the peace.Damian was sitting opposite me, a bunch of documents in front of him. He had been working non stop since we got on the plane. He had a strategy meeting with his lawyers and his security team the moment we landed.I could feel the tension in the air, the unspoken words between us. We were going back to a battlefield. Where people were determined to keep us apart. We were heading back to New York, where I could feel the threats closing in. Lucas and Natalia’s drama, and now it seems they were ganging up with Laura to bring us down. To threaten my business and his. This was war, and it seemed everyone was using our marriage as

I was going to get some work done, whether he liked it or not.I was typing furiously, my anger fueling my productivity, when I heard my phone ring. I looked at the caller ID. It was my brother."Hey, Marco," I said, my voice still a little tight."Whoa, what's wrong with you?" he asked, his voice filled with concern. "You sound like you're about to kill someone.""I'm fine," I said, sighing. "Just having a little disagreement with your best friend.""Oh," he said, a knowing tone in his voice. "What did he do this time?""He wants a baby," I said, my voice flat."And you don't?" he asked, surprised."It's not that I don't," I said, trying to explain. "It's just... the timing is not right. We have too much going on. Laura, Lucas, Natalia... it's a war zone out there. And he doesn't seem to understand that. He thinks I don't want a future with him.""Do you?" he asked,

B I A N C AToday, I was determined. I was determined to get at least a few hours of work done. But Damian, apparently, had other plans. He had woken me up with his head between my legs, and then proceeded to fuck me in the shower. And then again, on the kitchen counter while I was trying to make coffee.I was now sitting on the couch, my laptop open, trying to answer the endless stream of emails that had accumulated over the past few days. But I couldn't focus. All I could think about was him.He was sitting on the other end of the couch, a book in his hand, but I could feel his eyes on me. I could feel the heat of his gaze, but I was determined to resist. I was not going to get distracted again.I was typing a response to an email when I felt a pair of hands on my shoulders. I jumped, almost dropping my laptop."Damian," I said, my voice a little shaky. "You scared me.""Sorry," he said, a playful smile on his face. "You just looked so serious. I thought you could use a break.""I'm

L A U R AIt was the third night of my arrival as Damian’s new neighbor and worst nightmare. For years, I'd been Mrs. Moretti. I'd used the opportunity, the paparazzi, the lonely nights in a cold mansion in Italy. I was owed this. I was owed the respect, the status, the life that came with being married to Damian Moretti. And that little tramp, Bianca Salvatore, thought she could just waltz in and take it all away from me.Not a chance.I was sitting in my living room, a glass of expensive red wine in my hand, the lights dimmed. From my window, I had a perfect view of their villa, especially the patio. They traveled the same day I arrived, like the coward he was. They thought they could escape me by hiding away on some private island? Pathetic. Did they really think I wouldn't find out? Did they think money couldn't buy information? They underestimated me. As always.I remembered my reaction when I received a call that my husband was now married. I was okay with being the distant wife.

B I A N C A"So, his wife is your new neighbor?" Chloe shrieked through the phone. "Are you serious? This is better than a TV show! What are you going to do?"I was sitting on the balcony, watching the waves crash against the shore."What do you think I'm going to do?" I asked. "We're here on a private island, trying to have a vacation.""Vacation? Bianca, you're at war! You can't just go on vacation in the middle of a war.""It was Damian's idea," I said. "He wanted to get me away from all the drama.""Well, he's right about one thing," Chloe said. "You do need a break. But a permanent break would be better. Like, maybe he should just get a divorce. Why on earth are you even cool with this? I was team Damian, but it seems he comes with a lot of baggage.""It's complicated," I said, sighing. "He's been trying to divorce her for years. She's been dragging it out.""Drag it out? She bought the house next door! She's not dragging it out, she's setting up camp! She's a stalker! A rich, wel
