Lindsay's Pov
I smelled the intense scent of tequila along the way.
I looked at this man sideways. I wasn’t sure if he was my mate.
If he was my mate, why had he not responded to to my approach?
“How long are you going to look at me like that?” he asked coldly.
I quickly turned my head and closed my eyes.
The man pulled over to the roadside. Now we were in the territory of the Silver Claw Pack.
There was a cabin nearby.
I had been saved, but it was not any good news worthed celebrating.
“Follow me if you don’t want to die.” He got out of the vehicle and walked toward the cabin.
I had no other choices than followed him.
The door was opened with a beep. The man stepped into the house and turned on a light.
I stood still holding tight in the doorway, looking round the room
The man sneered as he stood in the middle of the living room, “What are you afraid of? I could’ve killed you just now if I wanted to harm you. Why would I have waited?”
I still did not move.
“Come, if you still want to know who killed Kristen.”
My heart sank. I walked into the house under the man’s gaze.
There were all expensive, high-end pieces of furniture. By the looks of it, this guy was rich.
Clutching my severely injured right arm, I leaned against the door and looked up to see him before I asked him, “Who killed Kristen?”
He did not answer. Instead, he unbuttonedhis shirt a little off his chest, and then took out a can of cold beer from the refrigerator. Hetook a few gulps after pulling the can open.
“I’m asking you. Who killed Kristen?” I raised my voice.
The man shook his head as his amber eyes flickered with luster.
He sat on and leaned back on the couch and stretched his long legs with his languid yet cold attitude.
“Is this how you treat your lifesaver?”
He asked. He then raised his head and took a sip of beer, revealing the smooth lines of his neck and bulging throat that bobbed along with the swallowing action.
I gritted my teeth and reminded myself to be patient.
“Then, you should at least tell me who you are and why you saved me.”
He flexed his long legs and looked at me. “My surname is Bishop. As for the rest...”
He sized me up with an undisguised disgust in his eyes.
“I don’t want to talk to a dirty dog until you have cleaned yourself up.”
My face burned instantly. I was so embarrassed that I did not know where to put myself.
“I know!”
I pulled open the bathroom door.
A mocking laughter came behind me.
I paced back and forth in the bathroom frantically. If it wasn’t for the pain got me breathless, I would have beaten him up.
This guy did not despise me when I was in his arms, but now he was saying that he was a clean freak.
Where was his manner?
Wondered bitterly, I turned on the faucet and washed myself after adjusting the water temperature.
My wounds were indeed badly inflamed. It would probably take a few days to fully recover.
I kept thinking while showering.
That guy said his surname was Bishop. As far as I knew, only the Alpha of the Silver Claw Pack was surnamed Bishop.
There was rumor saying that Alpha Bishop had fucked many women and had bastard children everywhere.
The only Luna did bear him a son, but he had been sick and unaccountable.
That guy obviously had nothing to do with feeble and sick.
In that case, there was only one possibility—he was one of the bastards of the Silver Claw Pack’s Alpha.
Why did he say that he knew who killed Kristen? What the hell he was up to?
The bathroom door was slammed open.
The sound scared me.I slipped and fell to the ground. My wounds ripped open again now.
Damn it! I forgot to lock the door!
It must be Bishop.
After looking through the hazy mist of water, I was startled.
To my surprise, it was a girl with blond hair and exquisite facial features.
She had a tiny face and slim figure, about the same age as me.
She was probably Bishop’s girlfriend?
“Did I scare you? I’m sorry. But I’ve knocked on the door...” The girl looked at me apologetically.
I did not hear her probably because the water flow was too loud.
She curled her lips and said with a smile, “You are—”
“No! No!”
I could almost guess what she was trying to ask me, but I was really not her boyfriend’s mistress.
I shook my head eagerly and explained, “Don’t get me wrong. I’m hurt, so I plan to stay here for a few days. I’ll leave right away if you are not happy about it.”
The girl’s beautiful amber eyes flickered.
She said, “You can’t leave!”
She then spread her arms wide to stop me.
Bishop was such a fool that he brought another woman to his house when his girlfriend was also there. Oh, fuck. I was screwed.
The girl slowly walked toward me. I held my breath and dared not move.
Gosh, what was this girl trying to do?
Why was she smiling... so weirdly at me?
“Take it easy. I’m Bishop’s sister. I won’t hurt you!”
She bent down and looked at me before she helped me up to my feet.
“Sister…?”
“Yea. You can call me Carmen.”
Carmen took the medicine on the shelf. “I’ll help you apply the medicines.”
“Thanks. You don’t need to do that... I got it.”
“You can’t reach the wounds on your back.” As Carmen spoke, she began helping me clean my wounds.
After my wounds were taken care of, I put on a large white T-shirt with a length that reached the mid-thighs.
Carmen brought me some food from the kitchen, and then took me to the guest room.
“You can live here in peace from now on.” She hugged me gently.
Before she left, she told me, “But, remember that you must never enter the room on the left. Understood?”
I nodded without any intention to understand the reason behind it. After she had left, I bolted the bread.
I had been hungry for too longthat I could not eat much. Although the bread would not keep me full, it was just right for my stomach.
Shortly after, fatigue set in.
Lying on a ten-square-meter round bed with a lace bedsheet, I drifted off and eventually fell unconscious.
I had a nightmare.
In the dream, I returned to a few days ago.
Starting from that baseball game, to when Kristen and I were hunted, to Kristen’s corpse lying beside me, to when I was framed, imprisoned, beaten, paraded, and expelled from the pack mercilessly in the end...
I was suddenly awakened from my nightmare with cold sweat streaming down my forehead.
I sat up. It took me a while before I could calm down from my fear.
As soon as I turned my head, my heart was in my throat again.
Leaning against the couch, Bishop was resting his chin on his hand and staring at me without batting an eye.
There was disgust in his eyes, as though he would pounce on me and tear me to pieces in the next second.
Ryan’s eyes lit up as he looked at me.He turned around and said to Bishop, “What a pretty girl! Is she your girlfriend?”“I’m not.” I denied it immediately.I secretly begged this gentleman named Ryan not to talk nonsense.Bishop obviously resented me. If Ryan said that I was his girlfriend now, he would probably want to kill me.However, Bishop looked at me with a frown and asked, “Are you in such a hurry to dissociate yourself from me?”I could not figure out the reason behind his rage.Would it not be a good thing for him that I dissociated myself from him? After all, my existence was humiliating in his eyes.Ryan seemed to have sensed the awkward atmosphere between us, so he mediated, “Alright, alright. There’s not much time left. Miss, please follow me.”I heaved a sigh of relief and hurriedly followed him out of the lounge.“Bishop has a sharp tongue, but he’s soft-hearted. I can tell that you’re different in his eyes.”I smiled perfunctorily.Indeed, I was different in Bishop’
When Bishop saw that I was motionless, he shot a sideway glance at me. “What’s wrong? Are you afraid I’ll eat you up?”I gritted my teeth and followed him.He lit a cigarette as he sat on the couch in the living room. After taking a few long puffs of the cigarette, he fixed his gaze on my face and asked in a deep voice, “You’ve been living a cozy life.”I frowned. “What do you mean?”Bishop exhaled a puff of smoke, and his lips curled into a faint smile. “Who was that kid just now?”“It’s none of your business.”Bishop scoffed. He then flicked the cigarette butt and said slowly, “You better figure out where you currently stand and not do anything that will piss me off.”“I’ve pissed you off, haven’t I?”He had not had a proper talk with me since the photo frame was broken.I reached into my bag involuntarily and brushed the corner of the photo frame with my palm. It was almost complete.Perhaps he would not treat me so harshly anymore. In any case, I still needed to rely on his help.
“Hello there. I’m here to work. My name is Lindsay.”“I know.” The man smiled. “Dad told me that a pretty girl would come over today.”“Are you Boris?”He raised his eyebrows and acquiesced.“Mr. Peter said that you have a bad temper though…” I blurted out.Once the words came out of my mouth, I realized that it was really rude to say that.“Dad, you’re talking about me behind my back again!”Boris craned his neck and shouted.Peter ignored him. He shrugged, and then said to me with a smile, “Let me formally introduce myself. I’m Boris, a gentleman.”“Mr. Boris, nice to meet you.”“Nice to meet you too, pretty girl.”I smiled perfunctorily. “I’ll go prepare breakfast, then.”“Do you need my help?” He whistled.“No.” I ran like hell into the kitchen. I only heaved a sigh of relief after shutting the door. Why was Boris so glib?***I made sandwiches and juice for breakfast.“It’s really delicious.” Boris complimented, “Your mom must be a good cook too.”I froze for a moment before smil
His strength was so great that the sense of oppression overwhelmed me instantly, leaving me out of breath.“Are you going to run away?!” he roared.I froze for a moment before I shook my head. His anger seemed to have dissipated, but his nose started twitching.Immediately afterward, his eyes were bloodshot as he held me tightly. “Where have you been?! This isn’t your scent!”“I went to—”“I told you not to hook up with other men!” he roared, cutting me off.I stared at him blankly as I did not know how to explain myself.I did not hook up with anyone else! Was I just a flirtatious woman in his eyes?I broke free of him and pushed him away.I would not allow him to slander me despite the fear I was feeling.“Believe it or not, I didn’t violate the terms of our contract.”After I said that, I was going to turn around and leave, but he grabbed my arm again.“Have I given you permission to leave?” He stared at me fiercely.I took a deep breath. “So, what else do you want?”He suddenly ra
Lindsay's PovThe door to the living room slammed shut.I was stunned in place, feeling aggrieved yet furious for a moment.Even so, I knew I could not blame Bishop for lashing out at me.After all, to him, I had broken the photo frame.Carmen told me that their mother had passed away, and that the photo frame meant a lot to Bishop.I sighed as I tried to think of a remedy. The crafting of that photo frame did not seem complicated. Perhaps I could make a new one that looked the same, but it required materials to make a photo frame...I was kicked out of my original pack penniless, so how was I going to buy materials?I sighed again. After looking around the living room, I saw the black card that had been on the table since morning.I walked over and picked up the black card.Bishop said that there was $500,000 inside it...With it, I could even buy a similar photo frame without having to make it myself. However—The dirty look that Bishop gave me reappeared in my mind.I did not want
Harris’s POV“Get lost!”I roared. That woman actually dared to knock on the door. Was she really not afraid that I would strangle her?“Harris, it’s me.”As Carmen’s voice came through the door, I pinched the bridge of my nose and suppressed the rage in my heart.“Come in.”I stared at the shattered frame and photo on the table without looking up. “What’s up?”Carmen walked up to the table and picked up the photo frame.“Mom passed away almost seven years ago. Perhaps everything would’ve been different if she were still alive.”She had a look of pain on her face as she clutched the photo.I clenched my teeth and started reliving my memories. My name was Harris Bishop. Carmen’s my sister, and our mom was the Luna to that old Alpha, my so-called father. They were also mates to each other, but the funny thing was, my father was a fickle man. He was unwilling to have only one woman, so he had many mistresses. Those children whom his mistresses had given birth to became my titular sibling
