Maya flees from the cottage. The moment she was outside; the heavy mist was cloyingly thick. She can’t see in front of her. Her feet keep moving forward; the destination uncertain;
“Maya! Wait!”
The calling of her name just spurs her on. She kept running. She kept stumbling. When she looked up again, she saw the black gates right in front of her. She quickly rushes forward. She can’t go any further. In her frantic mind it dawns on her the gates were lock.
“Maya, where are you?”
She spins around looking behind her but she can’t see anyone. Her heart still beat fast in her throat. After a couple of moments, she still didn’t see anyone. She does know it was just a question of time before they both find her.
Thomas knew precisely where she was. He chooses not to frightened her further. He kept his pace with the old man. Quietly he realized he was behaving like he was still human. This behavior was very strange and certainly out of character.
He clearly understood his thoughts and concerns but found it curious that the old man wasn’t frightened with him. He senses no fear whatsoever.
“Maya is near the gates. She is trying to leave the grounds.” Thomas said softly.
“How do you know?” William asked surprise before he realized the truth for what is was. “You sense her.”
“Yes, sir. May I ask a question?”
“Don’t you already know the answer?” William queries.
“Why don’t you fear me?” Thomas stood right in front of him.
“It took me sometime before I realized there is creatures walking the night. I decided since they don’t border me; why should I be concerned by them. My duty is to tend the grounds and keep strangers out or away from the graves or tombs. I always believed I lived in a normal world but I don’t.”
“You knew I would come.” Thomas looked at his ring.
“The day you brought happiness to my door. I knew it was just a question of time. I always knew you were constantly close.” William explain his truth.
“Why did you never acknowledge this to anyone?”
“It wasn’t my business. My daughter-in-law sealed her fate with you. Did she know what she did? Did she willingly do this? I don’t know. Only destiny will reveal how this will end.”
Thomas said nothing. He just stood motionless. At last he starts to looked around.
Maya suddenly looked through the gates. She can hear the approaching car. Carefully concealing herself behind the grave stones as she looked and listened. The car stopped in front of the gates. After a minute she heard the doors opening. She judges them to be two people.
“Billy-boy, why are we here again?” Andy sound and looked nervous. The place still gives him the creeps.
“You want your money. My Dad has it.” Billy looked for a way onto the grounds. Last time it was easy since he found it partly opened.
He suddenly heard the quick flattering of wings. As he instinctively reaches for the gates it clicks opened. Without thinking he stepped inside.
“I don’t like this. Who just opened the gates? It was clearly locked.” Andy looked nervously around.
Billy said nothing. He just keeps walking further. He nervously looked around; because last time he had flee from this place. In his frantic haste it only dawn on him later; who he had seen apparently living on these grounds.
He had always thought his child had died the day he didn’t helped his wife giving birth to her. Now recently he discovered the major truth his father willingly kept from him. The girl was the mirror image of his wife. Now he was curious if Gia was still alive and where might she be hiding?
Maya recognized both men. Her eyes stayed focused on the man who was a younger version of her grandfather. As she studies him, she realized she don’t like him. He looked like trouble. She was suddenly certain he was the one who attack her grandfather.
“What are you doing here?” Maya suddenly stepped from behind the grave stone.
Andy instantly reaches for his gun. He felt a fleeing breeze. When he looked at his hand, the gun was gone.
“Who the hell are you?” Andy asked aggressively.
“This is private property.” Maya said softly. Her gaze was firm and direct.
“What is your name?” Billy looked curiously at her. He can’t believe he was looking at a clear version of his wife.
“My name is of no concern to you. Again; I am advising you that this is private property. I want you to leave.”
Billy stood motionless listening to her. Even her voice sounds like her mother’s. He slowly realizes his luck was about to change. “Do you know who I am?” he tests the waters. He can’t believe his father kept this from him.
“I don’t know you sir. What I want is you both to leave.” Maya said pointedly gesturing towards the open gates. “You are trespassing.”
“I am your father.” Billy said quickly watching her closely. The only visible emotion he noticed was the brief blinking of her eyes before a clear look of annoyance washes over her contours. She narrowed her eyes into a hard glint.
“You are mistaken sir. I am not going to ask you again to leave. Should you persist on staying I am going to call the police.” Maya crosses her arms over her chest watching them motionless.
“No, you are not, girly.” Andy approached her fast with a menacing look.
“Really…” Maya asked with a clear challenge. “I am not afraid of you. Also, for the record, what made you think I am alone here?”
“Billy kept looking at her in disbelief.
Andy looked nervous before checking if she was telling the truth. He realized again that the place was giving him the creeps. As he watched the surrounding area, he suddenly noticed the crows just sitting there watching him with their beady eyes.
“Billy-boy, I think we should leave.” He starts to think the birds was hypnotizing him as he was slow in looking away.
“I have business here Andy. Stop being a coward.”
“Leave…” Maya said flatly.
“I am looking for my father.” Billy suddenly changed tactics.
“Who might that be, sir?” Maya kept her expression controlled.
“William Asher. I am his only son.” Billy answered pointedly. He felt frustration building inside him. The girl was like an unmovable wall.
“Oh,” Maya stepped backwards. “I am sorry for your loss sir.” She said sounding sincere.
“What do you mean?” Billy was startled and worried.
“Someone killed him and left him in an open grave.” Maya answered solemnly. “You will find his body in the local morgue.”
“You are lying.” Billy instinctively took a couple of steps backwards. He now looks openly nervous. He didn’t realize he hit his father that hard.
“Why would I, sir?”
“Show me the grave where he was found.”
“Billy-boy, we should leave.” Andy advice really not liking this.
“I am not going anywhere. Show me the grave.”
“If you insist.” Maya turned around. She already senses the change in the mistiness. She wasn’t alone. The thickness easily swallows her before either man realized. She was gone.
“Where are you?” Billy called angrily. He only blinks a moment and she was gone. He kept moving forward but felt uncertain. He was out of his depths here.
Thomas and William both are close enough to touch the men. Thomas suddenly moved with unbelievable speed grabbing Billy and moved amongst the graves. Before he even could utter a word, he found himself beyond the gates looking inside. He barely noticed Andy running down the street.
Billy had lost his balance and landed on the wet ground. He tried looking around but sees nothing. He can still sense something moving around him but his eyes can’t seem to catch whoever.
“Why are you back Billy?” William talked behind him. He watches his son scrambling to get onto his feet.
“What…what the hell? What’s going on here?” he asked with building fury trying his best to shake his immediate fear from his shoulders.
“You should leave. You are not welcome here.” William advises.
With the help from Thomas who now stood on the grounds behind a close gate.
“I want answers Dad.” Billy suddenly screamed.
William had turned and vanished in the mist. Thomas made his appearance just looking at Billy who was white with fright…He slowly extend his fangs already moving…
Maya slowly walked amongst the graves. She kept looking at the headstones. She had grown up here but today it took a moment before she realized, the stones only carry the name in the grave not the date of birth or when that person had died.“This is very odd,” she mumbles. It took another moment before she realized she stood close to Thomas’s tomb. The memory comes flooding back remembering how that stupid girls had managed to trap her in there.“Waking up in there I didn’t realized what I would uncover. I always thought my life was simple and ordinary, but apparently not.” She voiced her though out loud. She steps closer to the tomb searching for a way inside. She can’t seem to find something that would suggest that’s the way in. She was so intended that she didn’t realized she wasn’t alone.“Are you missing your future house Maya?” Olivia Stone stood slightly behind her. She wasn’t alone. The two girls with her clearly was not aware of her cruel streak.Maya had turned watching the
“Maya…” The girl turned away from the window when she heard her name being called. She kept looking at the door, her hands hanging nervously at her sides. Since she called him that night a week ago; she found herself in another place. “There you are. Why didn’t you answer?” Thomas stepped into the lavish living room. He was dressed in a very expensive suit and a blood red shirt. He was a completely different man then the one whom she discovered in the Cemetery. “Hi,” she answered nervously. “Are you okay Maya?” he now stood right in front of her reaching out to take hold of her hands. He softly brushed with his lips over the texture of her skin. Again, those little sparks of instant attractions. He has such a gentle look in his eyes that the very look simply pulled her closer to him. “I am not sure Thomas,” she answered softly. “Talk to me and tell me what’s wrong.” “This might seem silly especially saying out loud.” “Maya, be honest with me.” “You know I grew up living in a c
“Maya may I tell you something? It’s silly, called it cliché but I want you to know this.” “I am curious.” She still nestles securely against his chest. In truth she never truly craves human touch but everything is so different yet natural with him. “I had watch you grow into the beautiful person that you are. I think I realized the truth from my being when you turned eighteen. I found absolute pleasure in watching you smile, the way the corners of your lips curves.” Maya blushed but said nothing. His hand lay softly across her heart. He can feel the strong beating. She suddenly felt his lips against her neck softly kissing the artery there. “Are you hungry Maya? I noticed lately that you don’t eat much.” He kept his arms tightly around her body. He was aware of all her emotions but he kept them to himself. “I don’t have much of an appetite.” “Why is that?” “I feel nervous…uncertain. The truth is I am not sure what to make of my future.” Her finger start caressing the enchanted
Thomas stood in front of the window holding a glass of blood. He drinks thoughtfully thinking about the girl who brought a strange change within him. The times when he was amongst humans; he found them self-centered after what he had given them. “I want an explanation Thomas.” Adam Blake was furious. The man who just appeared in his office earlier stood motionless drinking his blood. He wasn’t even listening. He slowly turned to watched the man he found on the back-alley scrambling to survive. He had given him a life but now looking back he certainly doesn’t appreciate what he had become. “I don’t own you anything.” He drinks the last drop of blood. His bluesish eyes almost white before changing colors. The continuous changing of shades the result of his thoughts. He slowly went and sit down in the chair. The look in his eyes burning the other man. “I don’t understand your current behavior.” Adam said flatly. “You know I could throttle you if I want to.” Thomas observed casually.
Gia sits motionless in the darkest corner of the gardens. Since she had slipped away from the doctor, she holds onto the photo like it’s the most precious thing. She treasures the little paper pretending its her daughter she was holding against her heart. She can feel her heart beat throbbing in her throat as her thoughts wanders back to that day in Doom Cemetery.“Maya…” her voice just a whisper. She only nursed her baby for seven days before she left and never looked back.“Bastard,” she hissed while remembering her husband. “You are the reason I didn’t see my child growing up. Now after many years; the first time I see her is on a photo taken by an outsider.” Silent tears stream down her face. After sometime she finally looked at the cell number scrawl down on the back of the photo. Turning the photo around to look at the face so similar to her own.“Would you answer if I call?” she asked the girl who only slightly smile while looking past the camera. It appears she wasn’t aware of
“Maya, you date is nearly here.” William called from the living room.“I am almost finished.” She currently stood looking at herself in the mirror. She was shock at her own appearance. What was holding her attention was her eyes that continuously keep changing colors. She slowly reaches out to touch the wavy texture of her hair. The curls softly touch her shoulders. She suddenly shut her eyes before stepping away from the mirror. She was having the overwhelming feeling of being self-conscious. She took the little black purse slipping her phone inside along with her lip balm. The moment she stepped into the living room the doorbell ring. William looked at her before briefly kissing her on the checks. He then went and opened the door allowing Thomas entrance. He stood aside allowing them privacy.“Good evening Maya.” He briefly kissed her on the back of her hand before handing her the single red rose. “You look stunning, my dear.”She silently took the rose enjoying the fragrance for a
Billy Asher kept looking at his watch. He was anxious and a bit uncertain. It took much effort but he managed to make the call. He kept rubbing his arms as there was a chill in the air. Doom always was a strange place. That year when he and Gia escaped through here it never even occurs to him that his father might possible be living here.He looks up when a chair was being pulled from beneath the table. William sit down.“What do you want?”“Thanks for coming Dad.” Billy looked uncomfortable under the direct look.“I ask again, what do you want? If you are still looking for money you are knocking at the wrong door.”“I am sorry Dad,”“I don’t believe you.”“I was frightened and reacted badly.”“It’s no excuse. We both know given the time you will do this again. If apology is the only thing you wanted to say, excuse me.” William start to rose from his chair.“Dad, please.”William looked at his son displeasure washing over his face. He slowly sits down again. He called the waiter and o
“Gia, talk to me.” Doctor Stone carefully helped her to sit down on the couch. She looked at her hands for a long time. It was becoming clear she was allowing pain from the past to reflect on her face.“I once was a different person.” She said softly.“What do you mean?”Gia slowly looked up into his face. She smiled softly.“Do you have kids?”“A daughter. She is twenty-three years old.” Doctor Stone answered honestly.“Same age as my Maya. I don’t know anything about her.” a single tear stream down her face.“Gia I only need to get a pen to sign you out of this hospital. Just say the word.”“Where would I go?”“I can make arrangements for you until you found your feet. Who do you trust?”“My father-in-law.” She suddenly stood and circle the office. “I once was part of a twin. We were Gia and Mia.”“Where is she now?”“Dead, doctor Stone. I tried stepping into her shoes to find the killer but instead I made a mess of my own life.”“Start from the beginning Gia. Tell me the story of G
